Do you solicit followers or is your work just that awesome

   Some people have over a thousand followers and have just recently joined say 4 months ago, seems skiddish. what gives.

      I wouldn't say my work is awesome, but I don't solicit followers either.
      
      People will join a fan club, follow, subscribe, call it what you will, based on whether they enjoy reading what you write. Or they do it in the hope that you will follow them back. But I don't play that game.

         I'll second everything Darkside just said, and add that when people send me fan mail and ask me to look at their hubs or be their fan, my #1 reaction is to delete their fan mail.  I find fan/follower solicitation really tacky.

      I think the higher the BS is piled on anyone's hub, the deeper the following.  LMAO.  I'm talking about hubbers who have some kind of cutesy kitsch in their profiles.

      Seriously?  I wouldn't know.
      When I was on the cusp of breaking into the 90-100 group I had two rounds of multiple flaggings and my hubs were pulled off the air for --in some cases--over a week and my score and presence here went into the toilet.
      I don't care about scores since they have little to do with your actual writing BUT once a score goes under 75 Hubpages cuts you off somehow.
      Still, the people who pointed me out to the admin and flagged me big-time cannot silence me.  I say what I want to say and write what I want to write.  People who respect that and actually KNOW I am here follow me. . .and I respond ASAP to every comment and e-mail.  I don't have thousands of fans but I DO have people I like and who seem to like me.

      On This Avator has not solicited it has 16 followers all genuine.
      I have another Avtor where I have solicited on there I have 102 I have only been on a while. it begs the question, would those people with 1000 fans have 1000 friends, probably not, they are too busy making virtual ones. I prefer the genuine over the you fan me I'll follow you squad anyday.

      as for me, i agree with Relache, soliciting fans is tacky, and i wouldn't do that. if people want to follow me, fine, and if they don't, that's fine too.

   The fans thing is hard to understand but for some people it is important. I only fan up to newbies as a way of giving encouragement. I never encourage other people to become my fan. The hundred or so I have is at least 60 too many for my own needs.

   someone followed me & posted fan mail. & said in the fan mail comment they expected me to do same !
   
   i felt very reluctant to & have not approved the fan mail comment.
   which left me feeling uncomfortable !

   I fan the newbies but I don't tell them they should follow me. I know I got so excited when I just joined and I got my first fan and first fan mail. So I figure why not do that for other people. It gives them examples to look at, as well as someone to follow... if they so choose.

    When hubbers hubwalk my site, I follow. I'm visiting my fans, too. I'm proud to have 14 followers. It's one of the few ways I can discover good hub reads.

    I haven't created many hubs yet, but one of my hubs is of a very unique topic which has caused it to get quite a lot of interest among the people here.
    
    Unique hubs that are well-written should get attention.

       The ones that will get the most attention, and have a greater chance making money, will have little to do with acquiring fans. If the bulk of your readership is coming in via search engines then they've not got the ability to follow you.

    The best way to get fans is to become a featured hubber (by getting a 99/100 hubberscore)..... never fails to get me 10 new fans as a result of the exposure. One way to prevent yourself from getting there is to add yourself to too many fan clubs....

    I tend to follow people who consistently write things that I enjoy reading or who I have interactions with across multiple sites.  I've got two people I'm following because they are referrals of mine and they prolifically create Hubs.
    
    I'm a follower of 25 people, compared to 1643 people who follow me.

    I agree with the viewpoint of Darkside and Relache, I only select those whose work I want to follow. Others though I may not haved fanned, I bookmark their work and refer back and check for additional hubs they may have added.

    I have been fanned by quite a few and that is just because of chatting on here and yes people actually like what they read from me. But I don't do anything that makes them want to follow me. that is all on them.

    I don't think I need to ask for followers. Between my decent hubs and fanners I have more then enough followers to go to my head!
    I do find the combination of trying to write something helpful or fun or whatever and leaving helpful and positive comments on other peoples hubs is more then enough to develop a following.
