In my opinion, fast food is better than fresh food for 3 reasons.
First, it's your best friend when you're hungry. You can take it anywhere and you don't have to cook it. You can warm it in 2 minutes by putting it into a microwave. Second, it's easy to buy fast food. You can buy it from many stores such as shopping mall, 7-11 and gas stations etc. You can order it by phone and they will be delivered to you. Finally, it's popular. There are many restaurants such as McDonald that has over 31,000 branches around the world. Most of people in the world know fast food.
In conclusion, fast food is good for people who don't have too much time to spend on meals. It's popular, easy to buy and you can bring it anywhere. What do you think about fast food?

It really matter how you cook the food. A salad is considered fast food, turkey burger, add vegetables: lettuse, tomatoes, etc. Just add light mayo, ketchup, mustard on whole grain hamburger bun. Now, that is a fast, healthy meal. Also, add diet/caffiene free soda. Wouldn't hurt to add a salad to the meal. That both fresh and fast food. Hi one and all big_smile.

Take a look at "Super Size Me" and get back to us on your feelings about fast food...If that doesn't change your mind, look up some of the experiments done with McDonald's food on YouTube...some of that stuff NEVER breaks down--this leads me to believe it can't possibly be actual food. wink

Fast is not healthy, it is just food, and increase fatty acids, cholesterol etc. It is harmful in long terms

It depends on what you get. It also, depends on how you fry your burger, or cook french fries in oils. Oils is what makes any foods fatting. That adds thousands of calories to your foods.

Fresh food can be fast though.  You just go to a grocery chain to get it instead of to McDonalds or something.  You can get a balanced meal in minutes just by breezing through a store.

Grab a pre cooked steak, burger, or chicken breast, a salad in a bag or container, some juice with no sugar added, and a roll from the bakery section, and there you go.  Some stores even have these things in a section near the deli...fast, healthy meals in a container.

The only advantage of the other kind of fast food is the privilege of paying more to feed their advertisers and the processed food manufacturers.

Be careful of meals in a container....

Know if the chicken has been marinated or the steak seasoned for example...

One of the problems we have is the amount of processed foods we eat.  While it is quick to grab and go, often the foods are full of preservatives and high in sodium.

We consume way too much sodium - because it is in the processed food.  Read a few labels and you will know what to stay away from.  A subway sandwich may have less fat, but what about the nitrites, sodium and other agents.  A turkey sandwich has 1000 mg of sodium - half of what we should consume each day in total.

I see no conflict 'tween fast and fresh, an apple an orange can be all of the above and even travel and keep better than the manufactured fast food.

Not to say though that I disdain either all things in moderation is a great diet!

people dont realize, for the same price as mcdonalds for 2, I can go to an upmarket organic cafe and get a great salad, lovely bread and some dip.

Wonderful healthy food, 100% on deep fried or mass produced foodstuff.

For the price of a fast food meal, you can get the all you can eat soup and salad from olive garden.  Sure, it is not 'to-go', but the taste is so much better, and you can actually get full... or maybe I am the only one who eats a big mac and is still hungry.

I love to cook - so health wise, taste wise, satisfaction wise, and price wise, I prefer fresh food! It's so easy to come up with excuses about why you don't have time to cook... but I think it should be something we make time for. And really - there are many dishes which can be made and placed on the table faster than the pizza delivery would arrive.

Fresh food can also be fast food....a stirfry with fresh ingredients takes minutes/ sushi contains fresh fish - you just have to look a bit further than Mc'D's and its definitely worth it!

I think food is so subjective; it is based on culture, family, personal taste and influences of people we meet when traveling. Also if a person is on medication it may alter the taste of certain foods.

Food is also Fashion, it has trends and I have seen many changes
in my life.  When I was a teen, Polynesian food meant a local Chinese Restaurant put some pineapple in the dish but I’m sure it did not resemble anything even vaguely so.  However, today we have Pacific Rim Cuisine.
At school,we read Escoffier (1846) and just like when learning to play the Piano, were forced to create the classics like Beef Wellington, (beef wrapped in Puff pastry, Coq au Vin (Chicken in wine sauce, and croq en bouche (a tower of
Cream puffs “glued” to a cone with spun sugar.  Now you only see this at very posh weddings or five star restaurants if at all.

In 1960 Nouvelle Cuisine came along and everything was much simpler and changed everything.
In rebellion against the past dishes that were very elaborate.
Plus, when we found out about cholesterol, heart disease, and allergies, another revolution took place.  Today it is all about fresh and local.

Sometimes, I feel like the character Sol Roth (played by Edward G. Robinson) in the Science Fiction classic “Soylent Green” who is one of the few people left on earth who
remember what a fresh Strawberry tastes like.  The truth is that my Grandmother never made tomato sauce with High Fructose Corn Syrup.  And I remember what a tomato
    should taste like.
When traveling I do go for fast food but I don’t really like it.  In addition, I feel guilty, not for myself, but for what I did at one highway eatery. One time when stopping in the parking lot of Burger King to eat, I gave my fries and the bread off the fish sandwich to the seagulls flying around.  After, I realized that I might have contributed to the birds getting clogged arteries. And, I just pictured seagulls falling from the sky with heart attacks, because I gave them this food.

Please people eat real, live real, cook your own food.  it is not too much to make a sandwich is it?  You are really eating junk and I believe that this is why there is so much
cancer.  We are constantly bombarded with chemicals, additives, and preservatives (some of which have been banned in other countries) it has to be causing disease.
We have bodies not a trash can.  Just because the FDA did not say so it does not mean that it is not true.  After all, it is only about 80 years ago that doctors figured out that they had to wash their hands before operating and touching patients.
I am not some radical food nut but since I lost lots of weight and changed my eating habits, I am now creating fabulous meals that are so delicious, I don’t really want to go to restaurants any more.
Someone took me out to one of the big chain restaurants and all I could taste was tons of salt and sugar, it did not resemble food at all.  The only one I like is our local
Outback, because they have fresh fish and local veggies.  However, not all chains are like that, but many are becoming aware and now even McDonald's has salad.

Also, for all you people who say Yuk to tofu.  You are eating it in all your fast food.
Since the 70’s cubed flavored pieces of tofu have been used in hospitals, dinners, lunch counters, and fast food places.  It is a filler to use less meat or fish in things like
Tuna salad, Chicken Salad, Ham Salad, meatloaf, hot dogs, cakes, cookies, etc.
So do not kid yourself, you do not know what you are eating! You have lost control by taking that first bite from ‘dirty water hot dogs’ to a large bran muffin.
Most “bran or whole wheat’ is just coloring from molasses or food color. And "healthy food is not always 'good for you'.
Each person needs to know what is right for them and get a
blood test once in while to find out if you need more magnesiu,
and other minerals in your diet that you might miss if you don't eat vegetable.
Think before you eat. Eat fresh, eat raw, eat less and be happy! Bon appetit! Sue Real

Fast food is probably OK once a week or something, but any more than that and you are just killing yourself. Fast-food outlets use semi-hydrogenated oils which are the trans-fats which lower good cholesterol and raise bad chlolesterol...so they are basically just heart attack material! Any goodness in the meats/burgers etc is countered by the the oils in which it is cooked.
Oh and these places use semi or partially hydrogenated oils because it can be kept longer and is cheaper than good oils.

I'm sure you've all be told to eat your fruits and veggies.  Well, there's a good reason.  They contain all kinds of nutrients and minerals that your body is craving for, that just get lost in any processed food.

I'm not here to curse fast food, or give you a slap on the wrist.  Fast food is ok once in a while, as long as you go easy on the quantities.  A lot of processed food has excessive amounts of sugar and salt.  While these may make the food tastier (mainly because the original flavours are drastically diminished), they're not good for you in the long run.

I'm sure we'd all like to be perfectly healthy all the time.  But stress, smoking, junk food, pollution, etc. take their toll on your body.  Eating fresh stuff is generally cheaper, and you'll save on future health costs as well.

I do not eat fast food unless it is my only option, and at that I will say not even once a month ..

and if I do , I go for Arbys, the meat is at least baked, not fried and is a tad bit healthier..

I was raised on what we raised or grew to eat, so I am a stickler when it comes to having fresh foods..I never really did enjoy fast food much, even when we got to go into town as kids and get it as a monthly treat.

  29. timorous profile image82
    timorousposted 14 years ago

The only reason fast food seems tastier is because you've gotten used to that level of salt and sugar.

If, on the other hand, you're used to making your own meals from fresh ingredients, you find fast food and packaged food is way too sweet and salty, and packaged food in general has a very synthetic taste, after the real food you're used to eating.

You just have to try and wean yourself off the salt and sugar.  Your body will thank you.

    Fresh is the best.

Fast is laced with preservatives (whiteners, msg, sulfates, sulfites, etc), salt, fat and artificial flavors/colors.

You can purchase fast fresh foods at local groceries.  Many times they have prepared salads (green, fruit), sandwiches, yogurt and fruit cups, rolls, sushi and many more items.  These are all healthy, fresh and can be eaten within minutes of purchasing.  Also, purchasing healthy means that you will stop and eat (usually the grocers have a tabled area for customers for dining), which is much better for the psyche, digestion and enjoyment.

Fresh is the only way to go!

You can have fast AND fresh   -   Get a Chinese mama, any chinese mama, and get her to teach you how to cook Chinese. Most dishes take less than 10 minutes from start to finish, huge variety and most recipes use whatever is seasonal.  Oh yes - it also helps if you had a revolution a while back so that very little food comes processed and you buy most things directly from the guy, or more often the woman, who grows it, from a really super market and not from the expensive processed food outlets we misname super-markets.

Fast food is just a convenient food, a food of last resort. Flavor is artificially enhanced. Don't spoil your taste buds by eating these too often. The most healthy food is still home cooked food. It's more hygienic and more nutritious.
