To give the profile page a new look, it might be nice to show the "Some of XX's Fans" in random (or cyclic) order. That way, newer fans could also get a look in. What do others think?

Older fans lose all SEO benefits that way smile

I like the idea of randomizing fans - it means that more than just Misha would show up on fan first pages. wink

Well, I'm happy with my front page - I've got Misha, Kenny W and you, Gamergirl. But I've also got Rmnathan whose work I really enjoyed but who seems to have gone walkabout.

Something inside me is saying 'algorithm, algorithm' ...

Kenny's still here, surely? It's Rmnathan who's gone orf.

To the best of my knowledge fans are currently ordered chronologically, but within these separate groups:

1st - Fans that left you unapproved (but not denied) fan mail (so that you'll see it)
2nd - Fans that left you approved fan mail whom you are also a fan of
3rd - Fans that left you approved fan mail, but that you aren't a fan of
4th - Fans that didn't leave you fan mail (or fan mail that you disapproved), but that you are a fan of
5th - All remaining fans that you aren't a fan of

To some extent we want to reward people that are the first to "discover" new members of the community, or at least that's the thinking.  To counter the motivation to exploit this, we do have some things in place to prevent fan abuse, or excessive fan hood.

Also, you can always dump someone off the top of your fan list by un-fanning them.  Remember, being someones fan is a tacit endorsement of their contribution to the HubPages community.

Thanks Paul. Having started this thread, I'll refine my suggestion in the light of the above -

1st group should stay on top, to be noticed
2nd group should stay 2nd but be randomised
      3rd to 5th group - no change

      Any good?
