Busting my butt working out and eating a sensibly...thats regular food in moderation..not dieting, not depriving myself of the things I like but smaller protions of those things..you don't need pills or fancy gadgets to loss weight, you need the mind set and dedication to an overall life style change that doesn't focus on weight loss but being healthy as a whole. This is what has worked for me...I know it's easier said than done. tongue

I just wrote a hub on weight loss. I'd stay away from gimmicks like colon cleansing treatments.  My guess is these treatments can cause more harm than good.

To lose weight is simple: CALORIES IN < CALORIES OUT.

To reduce calories you can restrict your consumption while at the same time increasing your activity. Restricting calories requires one pay attention to eating well~More fruits and vegetables and little or no sugar. That means cutting out or cutting down on soda and alcohol. Reduce fats and reduce carbohydrates. Skip fast food and restaurants and cook at home where you can control the amount of salt, sugar and fat added to food to make it taste good. Finally, GET MOVING! try to get 30 min. of  physical activity everyday.  Your heart will thank you.

I think it's best to go about it the old-fashioned way:  self-control in eating and exercise.

The best medicine for weight control is water. I'm 5'2 48-50kg. My man, (whom just actually left me all of about 5 minutes ago), is 6'2 and 85kg. I seriously eat just as much as he does. But i also drink 3-5 liters of water a day. I exercise when i can be bothered, which is about 45mins a every week or 2. My body is in about the best shape it can be, and i have good skin. I put it all down to water. Also healthy diet though. Although i eat more for my size than i probably should, i eat things like vegies, fruit, youghart, steak, chicken, fish.

But i do have time on my side also. I'm 21. But still, the younger you are when you begin having a healthy diet, the better off you will be down the track.

I agree with Marcel.  My trick is water (6-8 litres per day) and it must be RO water. Also, my diet consists mainly of fruit, veggies, fish and nuts.  Meat and poultry is in smaller portions and on alternate days.  And exercise is a definite must.

There is a connection between significant weight loss (up to 20%) and the use of topiramate (Topamax), an anti-seizure med which is prescribed for migraines.

      See: http://www.bellaireneurology.com/seizur … pamax.html

I'm not recommending or stating an opinion on its use; just pointing out its existence and its effect (because you asked)

Lynda, I can vouch for this. My daughter was on Topamax and lost a ton of weight. She just wasn't hungry! When she got off of it, she gained an excessive amount.

I also found that the antidepressant, Welbutrin, causes weight loss. Somehow, it cuts off the brain signal that says "I'm hungry'.

There are too many factors to give general answers: What is proven to work is exercise more, eat less crap and drink enough water (may be a bit harsh, but its true).

I know some people who claim to have a fat gene, never really believed that myself. I'd stick with the trinity.

The best "medicine" for losing weight is Breakfast. Almost all people who are overweight do not eat breakfast, that's why the special K thing works.

Toast, Juice, Milk. Your metabolism goes to sleep when you do. If you do not fuel the engine with anything more than coffee or tea you will make bad choices for the rest of the day.

Companies have been marketing weight loss since the AYDS diet plan. The country has gotten heavier and heavier, with ever increasing products to help you lose weight, make you hate your body...

Toast! Water! Lots of water. No drugs. Food and water.

I wouldn't consider taking anything to lose weight, and I'm amazed at the numbers of people who do consider/do it.  Maybe it's just me, and to each his own, of course.

What I think, though, is that what makes many people have a weight problem in the first place is that tendency to be looking for something (food or drink) to make them feel better.  Looking for medicine to then fix the weight problem is the same kind of thinking that goes with looking for food to solve feeling bad or tired.  I just think changing thinking and approach is the way people can lose weight; and medicine is just adding more crap to an already bad diet.'

For people who don't have a big weight problem and only want to lose a few pounds, losing it is easy enough that drugs and the like shouldn't be necessary at all.

There is no need for pills to reduce weight, (unless there are medical conditions and a doctor has perscribed) however the average healthy person simply needs to have a balanced diet, and of course a good exercise plan to shift the weight, however.. here is the main advantage doing the the natural way. Your weight will stay off. Taking pills, supplements in many cases you read about usually have limited results and when the pills/supplements stop, the weight gain starts.

Turning off signals to your brain (as I read someone say) is generally not something I would want a little pill to do! Personally I don't like anything that messes with my brain no matter how subtle!

Anyway, balance yourself with a nice stable diet you are happy with shift the excess weight with exercise, and drink water. If you are still feeling hungry introduce more fibre in to your diet, and if you are thinking of cutting back on loads of calories ect, seek professional advice first, making yourself ill is definately not going to help you shift unwanted pounds.

There is no pill to reduce weight.  The Diet Pill industry is a sham.  It sells dreams that are not attainable.

The body takes in and metabolizes food.  When you take in an excess your body will store the excess when you take in less... you burn the excess.

      That's it.

Health/Weight is about nutrition - the proper amount of nutrients in the proper proportion.

Do you really think that taking a medicine can permanently reduce your weight.
If yes, then please do some more research about it.
Medicines or fat burners just reduce your weight temporarily through thermodynamics for a short period of time.
And actually when you stops consuming them, your natural metabolism will be even less than before, so you will become fat at a even faster rate.
If you are looking for permanent weight loss, then you may have to put in some hard work instead. There is a lot of good information on net for free these days.
There are reputable sites which can provide you with a lots of info.

Water.  Reverse osmosis water, to be exact.  Drinking 5-6L per day, spread out evenly until 6 pm.  Also, fresh fruit and veggies and a small portion of protein.  Oh, the water is straight -- no lemon, sugar or other additives as it adds extra work to your kidneys and liver to detox.  The water helps cleanse your body of toxins naturally and when your body is "clean", it requires less energy to run, which requires fewer calories.  Though, I can still eat chocolate (yum) and deserts.  mmmmm  smile

...actually, laughing really hard for extended periods of time does burn a lot of calories...*shrug*
Once or twice I tried some of the pills out of curiosity.  Frankly there's no substitute for losing weight the old fashioned way.  Besides, even if they worked and you lose the weight before you're mentally ready to lose it, you'll be back at your old weight soon enough.  Same mentality as the idea that you could give a poor man a million dollars and he'd be poor again within a year because of his mindset.

@SJSchafer I imagine hats would be high in fiber, especially if it's a tweed.  So that supplement would have about the same effect as the colon cleansers.

Yes, I have the same opinion as most of these posts. No magic pill or treatment will work long term, it can also cause a lot of damage to your body. The best way like many others have said is to eat the healthiest food available to you, cut down or get rid of proccesed foods and bad fats, add in good fat (but not to much of that either), drink green juice and or smoothies, keep active and most importantly be happy.

To loose weight I would eat sensibly by eating a lot of fruit and vegetables with lean meat or complex carbs. With every meal I would consume a tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil then go for a walk. Coconut oil helps to speed up metabolism naturally and is great aide at helping to shed extra pounds.

taking medications is like changing seats on the Titanic, the ship is still going to sink. Of course you ALL know, to eat healthy, drink plenty of water, get good exercise, and that is still not working? there may be two things left to do, and you will be where you want to be. eat for your body type. don't know what your type is? there are 3. endomorph. ectomorph, and mesomorph.

Last and most important item of all? clean your arteries out! remember how the body works? if you do not know, time to learn! this IS the quick and easy way too by the way. Non-toxic as well. by stripping the plaque off your arterial walls, you will increase your blood flow to your whole body. Fat ans waste are removed by blood flow. that is it! there are organic natrually occuring amino's you can take to do this too. in 1998 this research won the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Introducing Nitric Oxide into your body used to happen through naturally grown NON genetic modified foods. we don't have much of that left in our lives. Dr. Mike

None, all medicines have side-effects and eventually are like changing seats on the Titanic. think long term too. anything you take meds for, what happens when you stop?

no matter what you eat or do not eat, no matter how much you exercise or do not exercise, blood flow is the key and the bodies mechanism for fat, waste, and toxicity removal.

within the cause, always lies the cure. Dr. Mike

You'll feel a lot better if you tackle the issue through proactive behaviour as opposed to medicine. From my research i've generally found medicines tend to deal with the effects but have no influence on the causes, which in turn can cause relapse into eating a lot again. I've recently wrote a hub about getting fit whilst staying indoors that might help you but even if you don't fancy looking at that, I strongly suggest just starting up by doing basic exercises you already know. You'll start to see your weight decrease and your motivation increase so your less likely to relapse and return to your old ways.
