Inflatable Christmas Decorations - Decorate Your Yard With Xmas Inflatables

Updated on March 17, 2011

Inflatable Christmas decorations are an effective way to create a festive atmosphere for your home this Xmas, and they're popular too; most neighborhoods will have at least a couple of inflatable decorations on display at Christmas. Read on for more information about Christmas inflatables, including some tips for using them to the best effect this season.

What Are Inflatable Xmas Decorations?

Inflatable decorations are, as the name suggests, basically balloons that are blown up with air, and are tethered in place. They are usually made from durable materials such as nylon, and feature a huge range of Christmas designs and motifs, such as Father Christmas, elves, reindeer and the like. They are often very large in size (such as six feet or more – some are 10 feet tall!), making them very effective as Christmas yard decorations or to add to the roof of your house, although smaller designs are available also. Large decorations come with the necessary equipment (such as an electric pump) for blowing them up and securing them in place.

Advantages of Inflatable Decorations

Easy to store – Christmas decoration storage can be a problem if you have a lot of decorations, especially large lawn ornaments and the like, but with inflatables the task is much easier, since they fold down to a fraction of their original size once deflated.

Quick & easy to use – blow up Christmas decorations are also easy to use, as most come with their own pump equipment for inflating them quickly – no need to worry about trying to blow them up yourself! They also have tethers, making them easy to secure in place with stakes when ready.

Huge range of designs – whether your tastes run to giant snowmen or nativity scenes, you're sure to find inflatable decs to suit, as their popularity means that there's a great range available to choose from, especially if you buy online.

Very eye-catching – there's no doubt that Christmas balloons make a great visual impact, especially the very large ones that many people like to use as Xmas yard décor or to tie onto the roofs and walls of their houses. So if you want your house to be the envy of the neighbors this Xmas, inflatables are the way to go!

Safe – another reason to try Xmas inflatables is that they're pretty safe – despite their often large size, they are relatively light in weight and less likely to cause injury if mis-handled.

Durable – good quality blowup decorations will also last for years, so long as they're stored properly during the year, so you'll be able to reuse them over and over, making them great value for money.

Types of Christmas Inflatable Decorations

As mentioned, there's a huge range of festive inflatables to choose from – you could go for just one or two, or choose a selection and create your own little Christmas scene. Common designs include:

  • Santa Claus
  • Rudolph and other reindeer
  • Elves
  • The Nativity
  • Snowflakes
  • Icicles
  • Snowmen
  • Penguins
  • Polar bears & other animals
  • Christmas trees
  • Cartoon characters such as Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse
  • Angels
  • … and many more!

You can buy both indoor and outdoor inflatable Christmas decorations, although outdoor styles are more common. If you're planning to use them outside, make sure that you buy ones that are especially designed for the purpose – they are tougher and more durable than the indoor variety, to withstand the harsh winter weather.

You may also want to purchase illuminated holiday inflatables if you're using them outside and want them to be visible after night falls. Alternatively, you could use floodlights or spotlights to show them off.

You can also get animated inflatable Xmas decorations, although these are rarer and more expensive – but they look great!

Buying Christmas Inflatable Decorations

You can buy Xmas balloon decorations in many stores which sell Christmas supplies, but you'll find the largest selection and best prices online (and you'll avoid the crowds too!).
