This one is requiring extra study and meditation for me, Andrew. Trying to identify central subject - - is it the human with breath or the fearless snowflake stars, falling to their death?

I wanted to say something about the grip of those cold crystals on the previously unfrosted world and counter this notion of freezing with the tingly delight and feeling of freedom a wintry frost can bring. Breath is life.

You get the prize, Rinita! big_smile Yes, the inspiration but also about how we create our own dilemmas.

    2. chef-de-jour profile image60
chef-de-jourposted 6 years agoin reply to this

The spider learns to weave a web, is taught, or has that knowledge pre- wired into its spiderbrain? Or both? Either way it is a phenomenal creation. And humans? Do we learn to create certain specific dilemmas so that others with knowhow and expertise and special gifts have to untangle us? Or do we have these patterns pre-wired in our DNA and life events trigger them into life? I've asked far too many questions for a dull Tuesday afternoon. Apologies.

      1. janshares profile image84
jansharesposted 6 years agoin reply to this

No apologies, Andrew. I love these questions. Great food for thought. Are we wired to create drama in order to attract help . . . attract connection to another? The spider is cunning, uses the web to intentionally catch food, yes? We humans are not as cunning. The webs we weave seem to be for drama and cries for help only. Thanks for spicing up an ordinary Tuesday, Andrew.

How damaged? Wind raging? Everyone safe? Your part of the world has extreme weather I guess but it's still quite a shock. It's good to know you're unharmed and still creating despite your predicament.

          1. snakeslane profile image87
snakeslaneposted 6 years agoin reply to this

Pretty significant damage from my point of view. Wind blew down a utility pole that services the electricity, so I have no power. I just rent, so it's up to property owner to fix, but because we are so remote, electricians can't find a pole, have to order it, won't be here for weeks maybe, meanwhile no power, so if we get a cold spell there's the added risk of water pipes freezing. And meanwhile I can't live there! I am looking at it across the street right now as I type this. Too much information?

      1. snakeslane profile image87
snakeslaneposted 6 years agoin reply to this

It's both, and all of that, and so much more. I 'baby-sat' Sheba since she was a puppy over the years, usually at Christmas. She was supposed to sleep in the mudroom with the other dog, but I let them sleep over with me in the living room where I was comfortably 'sitting' in the leather recliner, and Sheba would always end up on my lap. It was fun.

snakeslaneposted 6 years agoin reply to this

There's something about catching falling snow on the tongue, I've seen several poets describe this recently. If one had never seen snow before I can imagine this immediate response. So many places that don't normally get snow are getting it this winter. Was this happening in Columbia South America too?

      1. chef-de-jour profile image60
chef-de-jourposted 6 years agoin reply to this

I worked with a bunch of Colombian volunteers one time, a communal project thing, and some had never seen or been near snow. To see their reactions to heavy falling snow one night into the wee small hours was a revelation. It was as if they'd taken a drug, they couldn't get enough of the stuff. One guy had to eat it to prove to himself it was real, he was real. The whole event was wondrous. Mind you, when the snow melted and disappeared and the grey dull clouds packed in some days later, and cold rain fell for a week, mild depression set in.

Thank you, yes it is really amazing to see. I've had a little band of chickadees here this morning enjoying the wild bird seed I put out for them, so good to see that too, they are so beautiful, black crown, chestnut back, and swallow like tail. Not sure if they are chickadees, could be something else entirely, but very small, like a wren, could be a wren, I don't know. They move fast.
