Hello Gianella!
This was an interesting read. Thank you for bringing the beachside scenery, alive. I enjoyed reading about your experience.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you John, for sharing this in the forum.
Glad you shared this, John. Now that's as cute as a bug's ear as we say in Arkansas. I don't know what pasalubongs are, but the kwek kweks remind me of peanut butter. When my sister was about four or five years old, she was eating peanut butter from a spoon and a blob got stuck on the roof of her mouth. She was making a kwek kwek noise trying to get it unstuck. My dad thought it was so funny that he called peanut butter "quack quack" for as long as he lived.
Thank you for sharing this John! Hope you had fun reading this one! I'm having a hard time with my vocabularies now its the least my muse can do for now.
I enjoyed reading your poem about your Philippine experience at the beach Gianella. I think it is a good poem.
Thanks for posting Gianella's poem John.
Always a pleasure to bring smiles to my readers Pamela! Glad you enjoyed this one Stay safe!
This was actually not a personal experience but rather thinking about what a typical summer at the beach would be like, re imagined some instances before Covid era, and decided to write about it. The foods and delicacies I mentioned are my favorites but when Covid happened vendors were forced to work online. It certainly affected tourism as well.
Pinoys have a habit of buying buko(coconut) pies, the I (heart) MNL (for example) shirts, mugs, ref magnets wherever they go as pasalubong or souvenirs. Itlog pugo means quail eggs in english. Chicharon is pork skin deep fried as crackers paired with vinegar. Maruya is like pancake stuffed with bananas.
Glad you enjoyed this one Chit! It has been a while since my last article. So I decided to write something quite humorous and light.
Stay safe!
Also promoting to love your body and embrace imperfections. But still try to be healthy and gorgeous.
Thanks John for posting this cute idea of a summer day on the beach in the Philippines. It sounds like a day and evening well spent, Gianella.
A fun poem Gianella. An outing at the beach is always welcome on a hot summer day. And the variety of delicacies to enjoy is an added attraction. Thanks John for sharing.
Gianella...
You've made this daydream come to life.
Now I'm wanting a pint of ice cream but since I'm already in bed...it will wait.
It's great to have fun. Once we get older, those moments slide away. We have to make them happen.
Hi Doris! Kwek Kwek is a street food (deep fried) made from quail eggs (pugo) usually covered with an orange coating. It's quite popular along with fishballs, squidballs, and kikiam. It is served usually with a sweet sauce, or vinegar.
Pre covid, people would line up or form a circle in one of those carts where they sell it and get pieces of it from the frying pan of the vendor with the stick but since it is unhygienic now as we have covid cases, vendors have opted to sell these goods via online deliveries.
Pasalubong means souvenirs or items you get from other cities/provinces (countries) that are usually just found in that certain place. Or locally made in that specific area.
But it can also mean those you bought from a store and give to your kids/family.
Thank you so much Peggy, Vidya, Doris, and Brenda! I'm glad you enjoyed this poem.
Enjoy every seconds you can get.
Stay safe to all of you.
