    This poem evokes some heartfelt emotions. I want to bow my head and sob with that lady. "Not a word of gratitude does she receive / For all she does . . ." and that was her life's work.  Reminds me to take no one and nothing for granted. Excellent work. Thanks John, for sharing.

    This is a powerful poem. The loneliness and lack of gratitude in the first part is horrible, and the loneliness for the loss of company and an important role in life in the second part is also horrible. Thank you very much for sharing the article, John.

    This poem touches the hearts of many who know this sound of silence at the dinner table.

    Fortunately for me, my Ron always said thank you...even when the food was no good.
    But there is a definite loneliness since he left... when it comes time to eat.

    Good writing.
