Please read this poem about the end of HubPages.

Yes, the last to leave needs to turn off the lights.

Thank you, John, for sharing this.  The metaphor of this wonderfully written poem is both vivid and resonant.

I agree, Genna. It says it all.

A beautiful presentation of the house of HubPages, full of sharing thoughts and drinks. I enjoyed this last treat filled with lovely rhyming lines.

      Thanks, John, for sharing this.

Box's poem is the perfect goodbye. I emailed him to tell him so. Thanks for posting this, John!

Yes, it is, Shauna. It is good that some of us at least can stay in contact through email.

Yes it is, John. I apologize for not being better at keeping in touch. I'll try to do better.

A well-written tribute to what this site once was.

      Thank you.

Fair winds and following seas, Kathleen

Thank you for sharing this John!
This vividly captures the feelings of the HubPages writers, right now, about the site being closed down.
    Thank you and best wishes!

My pleasure, Chitrangada. Yes, Greg’s poem really captured the feeling.

Thanks, John, for sharing this to the forum for me.  And thanks to the rest for the wonderful comments.  Best wishes to all of you - Chitrangada, Venkatachari, Genna, John and all the rest.  As I was saving and deleting all my stuff on the site yesterday, all the "uncreating" was killing me.  And I noticed that many, many others are doing the same as the house's foundation is crumbling under our feet.  This part - this community aspect which was crippled by the careless deletion of comments on articles, but carried on in a new and unique way by thoughtful and industrious community members such as yourself - that's the kind of HP experience I'll always remember.  This poem was, for me, born from the destruction of something we all once loved.  But, too, it symbolizes, I think, the notion that we are going to continue to overcome no matter the obstacle.  We'll find a way elsewhere, I'm sure of it.  Many already have.  As we do...I'll be on the lookout for all of you out there.

If the formatting had a clapping emoji, I would post it for you, boxelderred. I posted a message below as well. Thank you for encapsulating our community.

Thanks John, for sharing this wonderful metaphor of what once was a beautiful place to reside, write, make friends from around the world, and so much more. Greg did a wonderful job capturing many of our feelings regarding the sad demise of Hubpages.

Greg, I saved all my articles much earlier, three months ago. Most of us were doing the same for months.

But, as you mentioned, I am not going to delete the content from HubPages. They will be there forever, if anyone happens to accidentally land on them.

It's a long way to Tipperary
It's a long way to go
It's a long way to Tipperary
To the sweetest girl I know!
    Goodbye Piccadilly
    Farewell Leicester Square!
It's a long long way to Tipperary
    But my heart's right there

My dad used to sing that song to my sister when she was a baby. It was especially hilarious because he can't carry a tune to save his life! :-)

My parents used to sing that too. A good farewell.

There’s some Irish in our family tree, and this song is therefore not unfamiliar to me. It conjures the perfect image for these closing hours and days. I’ve not done a great job of staying in touch, either, and so this  renewal of contact might be the only sightly silver lining.
