I published a hub regarding Obama's latest executive order establishing a council to set guidelines for governing American lifestyle and behavior.  If you don't believe his desire to control every part of our lives isn't spreading let me tell you a true story.  I grow my own vegetables.  I raise cows, chickens and pigs.  I and my extended family eat them.  That's their purpose.  Last Saturday a representative from the Department of Agriculture (not the one from the State of Tennessee, the federal rep) showed up at my place wanting to look over my 'farm' (he actually held his bunny fingers up making quotation marks when he said farm).

Of course I ask why and was told he was conducting a survey.  A survey of what?  Just a general survey.  I showed him around for about 30 minutes, at the end of which he wanted to give me a little follow up speech.  Seems I live in the dark ages and I'm not supposed to be eating my own, homegrown beef, chicken, bacon ham, eggs, etc.  He told me I had better (not, I might I had better) consider selling the cattle and chickens and pigs and purchasing my meat as I should (as I should).  He alluded to the fact that hopefully in the future we wouldn't be allowed to consumed unprocessed foods.  When I asked what he meant by unprocessed he explained he meant government approved.

I told him he had about a minute to get in his car as I was on my way to let the dogs out.

Obama's change isn't just on the way, it's here.  Analyze your day or week.  I guarantee at some point you've run into the same thing and either ignored it or missed it.

Gosh Tobey, after your last fiasco of a post concerning Obama "standing with the Muslims" I am surprised you have the nerve to post anything else.  By the way, why didn't you ever explain how you managed to completely screw that one up?

People like you and KFC make me proud to be an Obama supporter.  Thanks for making us look good and keep on making things up!  LOL!

Sounds to me like he was trying to find out if you were selling the meat not neccesarily ingesting it.

If you are selling it without FDA approval you might be breaking some law and maybe even endangering some others health.

    that is absolutely absurd!
I grew up a farm girl in Pa. and if it were not for what we grew to consume ourselves we would have not eaten. what could possibly be better for you than beef that you raised.
You fed it, cared for it, and know exactly what it has and has not had in its system.

This deserves a huge OMG!!!! Are you kidding me?! Really?!  I wish you would tell me that you were making this up and you just wanted our reaction.  I know that isn't the case but I have a really hard time justifying this! I try really hard to see if I can find reason in what the other 'shoe wearer' might be thinking regarding their actions but I can see no reason at all for this!  What is happening to America and why the !$#%$% won't anybody DO anything about it?

Your post is both sad and absurdly incorrect.  These encounters with tyranical USDA inspectors have been going on for years and are not the result of some conspiracy on the part of Obama the anti-Christ, Kenyan, Muslim Baby-killer.

There are many grass-roots organizations that have been working for over a decade (I belong to one of them) to fight back against the true enemy, not your imaginary one.

Never said it was the result of a conspiracy.  Obama's change is simply embolding the left fringe.  I don't believe Obama is the anti-Christ, a muslim, Kenyan, a communist or socialist (thought I love calling him Comreade Obama mainly based on his actions).  I think he's an incompentent ideolog and was never qualified to be a Senator much less the President of this country.

        My point is:

Your theory is as silly as the rest.  Scapegoats are easier to identify than solutions, but blaming the most convenient target will not solve any problem.

I see a purpose in this 'scapegoat'.  As President, Obama has the responsibility of putting a stop the the bullsh!t rather than creating policy to establish Behavior Modifications.

What you have described as happening to you is shocking, approaching unbelievable, like a really bad joke from SNL, satirizing the worst of government meddling and control of Americans.  Not saying I don't believe you, just saying that is how absurd the whole encounter sounds.

What was interesting about Ron's comment to you is his contention that this sort of USDA inspector 'tyrannical' thing has been going on for years. Interesting notion, that the USDA has been advocating shutting down family farms for years.  I think not.

Certainly, there are some horror stories out there of misguided USDA inspectors over the years, but none I can recall focused purely on the actual notion or action of operating a family farm and consumption of what you raise.  If so now, it's likely because the United Nations IPCC science, and the ridiculous recommended mitigating policies of the United Nations FAO, are both being accepted as gospel by the Congress and the EPA.

I'll have a look at your hub on Obama's council on American lifestyle and behavior - am not familiar with that one!

Do some research, you'll begin to understand.  When you start with silly preconceived ideologically-based rationale, you never get to the root of the problem nor make progress toward solving it.

Perhaps you should reconsider your goals?

The goal was  to associate any wrongheaded decision by a federal employee or agency with President Obama PERSONALLY. And they were doing a fine job of mutually feeding the lynch mob mentality (a bit short of evidence) until you cam along, Ron. What a party pooper!

Are you addressing me?  It would appear so.  I have done quite a bit of research into the IPCC data that forms the basis of the indictment of cattle as the main culprit of global warming, and have written several hubs in that regard, and I understand quite clearly the intent and 'goals' of the United Nations.

I assume, based on your name, that you're a farmer yourself, and have to wonder what part of the country you're from, because here in the Midwest, family farmers have been complaining about overbearing, out of touch USDA officials with "get big or get out" attitudes for 30 years, and my understanding from contacts in the local food movements on the East and West coasts is that things are just as bad (and in some cases worse, when you get deeply conventional USDA bureaucrats butting heads with progressive farmers doing things like permaculture and raw milk) over there.

Pick up some Joel Salatin for a very articulate, very angry take on the situation, especially "Everything I Want To Do Is Illegal."

      1. Ron Montgomery profile image61
Ron Montgomeryposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I agree with Kerry G's post, though I haven't read the book that was mentioned.  In nearly every regulatory agency (possibly all) there are petty tyrants who see their office as a way of furthering their own agendas and lining their own pockets - The Materials Management agency recently implicated in the gulf oil spill fiasco is a prime example.  Blaming a recently elected politician for problems that are decades in the making doesn't do anything to solve the problem, but if you have a pre-conceived notion that a president elected by a strong majority of voters is evil and has a master plan to turn our country into a socialist utopia, you might find scapegoating him to be of some use.

I'd rather look for solutions to actual problems, but hell that's just me. smile

And you let him on your property why?

The number of inspectors per amount of meat that needs to be inspected is astronomically small.  So why would they bother with you when they could be inspecting real business?

    Seems kind of odd.

Anyone who wants to see how America Processes beef should watch the Documentary Food Inc.

And yes your story is scary, but what is even scarier is what Obama is trying to do under the Climate Change Agenda and his own personal profit motives.

If Obama gets his way he will pass laws that allow Federal Inspectors to come into your home to inspect your appliances, heating and a/c and if they are not up to the new spec... whatever that may be you will be fined each day you are out of compliance. And you get to foot the bill for the inspection as well. This is no joke... this was written into a Bill proposed in Summer 2009 that is not law yet, but could be!

If you watch the shows "hoarders", it says millions of Americans have compulsive hoarding.

The show showed that the government can take their children away from hoarders and relocate them to their closest relatives, and order them to get out of the house so they can't live in the hazard environment anymore.

I'm curious.  What kind of questions were asked in the survey?  I work for a local governmental agency and if we are doing a survey, we explain exactly who we are and what agency we represent, the purpose of the survey, and where and when the results of the survey will be available.  In fact, if the USDA is conducting a survey in Tennessee, there should be mention of it somewhere on their website.

This is normal everywhere, the same ignorant official meddling in farming goes on in the UK and all over Europe.  It is all about government departments justifying their existence and expanding out of control.  In the UK the 'official' way is responsible for the last epidemic of swine flu and mad cow disease through closing local abattoirs and encouraging the practice of animals being carted around the markets for better prices.

This sort of foolishness has been going on since long before we elected Barack Obama to be president.

In fact, it started with the Nixon administration, whose secretary of agriculture started the "get big or get out" mentality. Farmers were encouraged (that is, subsidized) to grow commodity corn (and only commodity corn) from fencerow to fencerow. Once we got the inevitable glut of commodity corn, we had to do something with it, so we fed it to livestock. Our cows, pigs, and chickens all get crammed into feedlots and confinements and fed a steady diet of commodity corn (without little if any variation), and so their meat and eggs have become loaded with cholesterol and other stuff they didn't used to have.

I've written about the phenomenon here on hub pages. By the way, I originally wrote this piece about a year before Obama was elected.

It shows that Obama is just part of the trend, a hidden force behind white house that is driving the country down to tyranny.

Obama or Bush, the hidden force remains

      1. alternate poet profile image67
alternate poetposted 13 years agoin reply to this

It is not a hidden force - it is clear as day!  Government departments are created to do a job, part of what happens is that the department then needs to justify itself to get its annual funding, this is the drive behind expansion. No dept is going to ring the governor and say, ok that job is done you dont need us any more so we have auto-fired ourselves and gone on welfare - do they?
