They were both written by people who wrote what they believed God was saying to them. That is a totally different thing from saying they were "written by God". Why should we believe those people? How do we know they were not imagining things, or having a psychotic episode? Even if they were listening to God, how can we be sure they were interpreting His words correctly?

It is frightening isn't it. A central belief of Islam is that the whole Earth will be Muslim. Here we have confirmation that those who refuse will be killed like Muhammed mercilessly killed those who refused. I had hoped that this pattern of belief that was once prevalent in the Catholic Church would die out as an Age of Enlightenment finally dawned on the Islamic World. But that isn't going to happen is it. Whilst at its core Jesus preached peace, Muhammed preached death. I fear for my children.
I admit to a level of fear also. I don't understand what drives Islam. As you said, enlightenment should have softened the rough edges by now. I think you are ignoring the obvious. No one looks at Deuteronomy as a guide to action. It is a historical record (for Jews and Christians). We have history books that talk about what happened in wars, but that doesn't mean anyone wants war. The problem here is that radical Islam wants war and quotes the Quran as justification. Radical Islam has no regard for individual human rights and it quotes the Quran as justification. Comments in the Bible which can be construed as denying rights are accepted as ancient history and we work hard to correct mistakes made by those who don't understand this.

I have said many times that what you seek in the bible you shall find. Still I see the same few verses being thrown around in support of one opinion or another. I wonder why those particular verses stick with certain people and other, just as worthy verses are ignored.Like this one......
