each time we desire, strugglr, and fight for the freedom to practice our religion, equity among...
others, do we truly desire that others have same freedom?
The quote from Thomas Jefferson comes to mind, "I have sworn on the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." I subscribe to his philosophy. All people have the right to believe as they will and to share their beliefs with others. As do others have the right to listen or not.
When we endeavor to diminish another's opportunity to share their beliefs or even to coerce them into subscribing to our beliefs, we are just practicing tyrrany all over again. When we start to justify our actions against others because we are 'right', we're setting ourselves down the wrong path.
We need to work towards clarity of communication and lucid debate of issues. This is what will elevate us as a culture and as a people. When ther is openness there will be an opportunity for understanding and we will improve the lives of one another.
The Power Glider has said it so well. We should each seek our own truth in our own way. It is natural for us to desire to influence others, bringing them around to how we see things. Nothing wrong with this, provided we do it honourably and openly. If we feel we are teaching something worthwhile to people who are seeking to know answers, fine. They can take it or leave it. And they will. But when we feed our beliefs to infant minds before they've had a chance to develop their critical factulties, we just create more mayhem.
