Do you believe that God is still speaking to His people?  And if you do, what has He said to you lately?

You must spend time with Him not just talking to Him and making your request known but listening to Him as well.  I'll give a personal example.  Several months ago, in my prayer time I heard Him say ... the time is coming for you to move ... I Am going to be moving you soon.  Well, I took Him to mean that my landlords were getting ready to ask us to leave perhaps in a few months.  Well, you may have heard about the floods that hit Georgia in September.  Our basement apartment flooded and we were forced to move immediately, now you might think that is a bad thing but look at how God worked it for our good.  I was invited to stay with my ministry leaders who have prayed with me and encouraged me.  As my daughter and I looked for a place to live, we asked God to order our steps ... the first place we went was absolutely perfect and we are "Oooing" and "Ahhing" over it.  As I am standing there, I hear the soft voice of the Lord say, "No."  A few minutes later as I am wrestling with whether or not I had really heard a "No."  My daughter says to me, "Mommie (my special spelling of the word for her), you know God is saying "No" right?"  I stand in awe of God ... He was telling us both "No." at the same time. He then said, "I have something better for you ... just be patient and trust me."  That's all I am going to share in this forum ... stay tuned as I share the rest of the story in my hub ... "Does God Still Speak to His People?"

I agree whole hearedly.  I believe we can hear what the Spirit is saying to us, and I believe God puts us in situations that we will be we would recongnz Who He is.  Because when we are weak, He is madestrong.
If I got tos much people hanging around me, or too much drama or action,I know how to get a way.  And I learned to get away, God's Spirit was always there, but I couldn't hear from Him with so many distractions.  So I always take time to worship Him.  Just me and Him.  Sometime I wo't make a decision until I felt it was from God.  I try to protect my Spirit by not so many people in my circle, especially if they are not Spiritual, and don't seem interested in God or Spirituality.

Yes, I believe that God talks to His people. I also believe that you have to "Be still and hear His voice". There are different ways that we hear God. Personally, I hear God talking to me. It's hard to describe, in as He speaks to me in my whole being and I can discern that it IS the Lord speaking to me. You have to have a personal relationship with Him and accept that Jesus died for us.

God speaks to us in ways that only a God can.  He is speaking when we are deeply affected when we look deep into a child's eyes.  He speaks to us when we anxiously avoid or drive by a starving or homeless family.  He speaks to us when we see injustice openly done to another person, and we choose not to answer the call.  He pleads with us when in the refiner's fire we are tempted to compromise our integrity.  He speaks to us when, in the face of contention, we heed the prompting and seek peace.  He speaks to us when we feel the need and urge to become self reliant and to prepare for all of life's adversities.  He speaks to us when we view the beautiful and reflective changing of the seasons.  He speaks to us when we study, ponder and reflect upon the scriptures with an open heart void of pride.

He does, without upbraiding, answer our prayers, whether through the occasions listed above or through any number of other avenues He chooses and feels correct for us.  Our duty and responsibility is to remain humbled, submissive and without pride - open to the reception of the Spirit.  Do these things, and eventually you will know that Jesus is the Christ and God is our Eternal Heavenly Father.

Why would your god bother speaking to you when he could simply provide food and shelter for them? Does your god speak to those who are starving or homeless? What would he say to them?

He could stop the injustice himself if he's so concerned. Why wouldn't he simply do that instead?

He does no such thing, he does nothing to aide the starving and the homeless, he allows them to suffer and die.

          This is just silliness, Q.
You have rambled on and on about this subject like some broken record. He has provided everything we actually need. The rest is human.
Food grows for humans to eat, yes?
Trees grow for humans to cut and make homes, yes?
The air is still there for humans to breathe, yes?
Water still on the planet to drink from rivers, streams?

hmm, looks like He is doing His part.
Funny, humans are the ones charging people for food, water, homes, even the air they breathe.
Maybe the intellectually superior folk should get real.

No, you believers have rambled on about how your god continues to intervene in your lives.

Really? So, your god DOES NOT intervene in your life whatsoever? He DOES NOT intervene in anyone's life, yes? He DOES NOT answer your prayers, correct?

Because, if he does intervene in your life, then the one thing that your god has left for fault is your memory. smile

God does still speak to his people. The only time he doesn't speak is when we are in sin. Sin separates us from God. When that happens, God will send prophets as warnings to our own destruction. As in the old testiment, Prophets were sent to deliver God's word to the people who were in sin. Every prophet had the responsibility to speak, declare, and decree only what thus saith the Lord. Prophets were also known to be God's mouthpiece.

As for today..The Lord still speaks. He speaks through his word. God will never verbally tell us something without backing it up in his word. He's not a God that he shall lie. Nor is he the Son of man to repent. Whatever God said in his word, it shall never return to him void. It has to be made accomplished into the very thing in which it was sent.

The Holy Spirit is our guide, comforter, and convictor. He guides us into all truth, comfort us in everything, and convicts us when we are in error.

Jesus taught us how to pray. That prayer is God's word. Therefore we cover all our basis in one prayer. God answeres in prayer too. This is called communion. Not the type with bread and wine. But communion as in communication via meditation and intiment relationship with God.

People often debate this topic because the carnal mind could never comprehend the spiritual things of God. With this being said, God always said, He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. Who is the Church? Us. You and I and everyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior. Our bodies is the temple of the Lord once receiving the Holy Spirit. Where does God dwell. In the temple a-k-a tabernacle. What is Tabernacle? It means to dwell with in.

So then God dwells within us...Knowing this, (rhetoricallly speaking) God does speak to us. I can't see him not speaking to us. Its like living in a house with another person and not even speak to them. Impossible not to speak to a person you dwell with daily......

Yes God does speak to his children. He speaks to me. I need to be willing to hear. I need to seek and ask. He answers. Sometimes with a soft whisper 'now you see' or a firmer yet loving 'not now' voice. God loves to hear from his children. Most Fathers like to hear from their kids. I think most Dads love it when the kiddo comes to him and asks what do you think about this dad? Well we are Gods kids. How much more does he love us? Much more then this finite mind can love.

He speaks to us though nature storms, rainbows, beauty. Whatever is light and pure and Holy. He loves his kids. He protects them from the snares of the evil one. He will try to grab our attention. It is but for the grace of God I write today. He got my attention. I was going the wrong path. Today I walk in the light. I can hear him through scripture, the church, other individuals, messengers from God, nature or his audible voice. His voice becomes more familiar as I seek him. God owns it all he can do what ever he wants. He is not going to make anyone listen. He does not twist arms it is a choice.
The Light or the Dark. Jesus is returning for his children. You do not want to be left in the dark do you? (John 3:16) May God Bless you and Yours. In 'His' name.

I was once in a situation where my daughter had to have a serious surgery and I was so fearful and worried because I have had all my children in situations at on time or another and God has always brought them through. and  One day I heard the voice in my conscience say "You have not lost one yet." and I was  lead to believe it was God talking to me,and my daughter went through surgery and recovered. another time my son choke to death off of pinto bean but daughter breath for him until we got to the hospital and the put him on a respirator to help him until they could figure out what was wrong. I was lead to read 102 psalms where it said that these people was loosed from death, and that let me know that my son was going to be alright. he survived at twenty three months old.The answer to your question, yes I believe God still talk to people through words, the bible and subtle actions.  creativeone59

Yes and thinking about it right now, it's always been totally unexpected things. Once I was driving to go help someone but suddenly it was like their names were across my windshield and a different name was stamped across theirs. I ignored the first time, it was too weird, then it happened again. I turned my car around and went to the house of the person I apparently was SUPPOSED to be going to see - I found her standing on her porch and she said, "I was hoping you'd come." She wanted to accept Jesus, love God, it was amazing.

Seems that it's always like that for me.

Why would I want to have a personal relationship with a being that transcends the idea of personal altogether?  I don't seek to have a personal, loving relationship with god.  I seek to have an understanding of him.  You don't love your own limbs, you just feel them.  Your limbs are a part of you.  That is how I interpret EVERYTHING'S relationship with god.

      1. Valerie F profile image60

Speak for yourself. Maybe it's because I'm a dancer, but I see my limbs a little differently. Granted, I bear a particular need for my arms and legs. God doesn't need us. I never chose to have any any need for arms or legs, but since I have and need them, I like them. God chose to create us. So God's love for us is greater than even my love for my arms and legs.

          That's an opinion.  I don't believe it.

You don't need your limbs.  You want to keep them because they help you do something you like to do.  You could live without one of them.

If you want to define your feelings for your limbs as love, I suppose that is up to you.  I have a different opinion of god.  I don't think we are a children, I think we are a part of him.  We are part of one big algorithm that makes up the universe, and ties everything together.  Then again, I have a very unique view.

Drej, I dunno if I'd classify that as love or lust.  LEAVE YOUR RIGHT HAND ALONE!  (or maybe you're lefty, I dunno)

Do you think your children are a part of you?

Having children myself, I have a much better appreciation for the idea that we are God's children, and I find the view that we are physical parts of God somewhat megalomaniacal. As I have no illness that precludes this, my limbs do exactly what my nervous system commands, and they cannot choose otherwise. My kids, not being part of me, don't listen quite as well.

By the way, in a society with no medical technology, you could live without your limbs, but you might not be able to live as long and certainly not as independently. One of the necessary characteristics of omnipotence is complete independence.

Is this the Christian/ Christian living group? Some of these answers are goofy. Make it up as you go along. The blueprint for life is the Bible. That is God's inspired Word to the world. Jesus died on the cross for all sinners and then when we accept that gift and ask Him to be our Lord and Savior we belong to Him. You have free will to believe any crazy idea you want but that does't make it so. God does't need to line up with your ideas of how you are some kind of god etc., you need to line up with His thoughts, words, plans. If you don't you can keep floating around in your alternative universe. According to the word, God still speaks to His people. All we have to do is listen. Sometimes it is a still small voice and sometimes it is audible. Sometimes it is a thought but you understand it in words. There are more ways God can speak because He isn't limited but we are and we have to be opened to hearing from Him. And if you think I am too harsh to some people who gave their opinions then they owe an apology to Precious Pearl for their comments when they don't even know their right hand from their left. And you can take that literally or spiritually.

My problem with believing this way is God keeps interfering/intervening in my life in ways I don't know how to explain other than personal. Once I saw a video that was to show the immensity of God, it worked. But as everyone oohed and ahhed at the thought that God loves us anyway, it struck me as ridiculous - I know God is real but it's like me loving a microscopic dust mite.

Amazing isn't it?

I didn't get to listen to anything last night. I came home , posted, supper was ready sat in my chair for a minute and fell to sleep.
It is kinda the same as when I am working out side and hear the birds singing. Sometimes I am preoccupied with what I am doing and don't hear them. But God speaks to the individual.
He knows when we won't listen and doesn't speak. Then we might say, "I am ready to listen now God" but God may and may not speak upon command. Then as usual we blame God.
The birds are always singing to everyone at the same time.
If they are not getting enough to eat they go someplace else where they are fed. Maybe God goes to where he is listened to.
And time marches on. For every action there is a equal but opposite reaction. Time marching on is a good thing and a bad thing. Quite often I wish that I didn't know what I didn't know then??

Yes, God is still speaking. It's Just that we are too busy or too frightened to listen . A lot of people think it is spooky or going crazy to hear you speaking to yourself...this is one of the ways God speaks, you hear the voice in your own head, your heart and your ears.

I believe God has spoken to me so may times. Sometimes he gives me an answer to my prayer immediately. You only need to have faith and believe it is him. Wait for a week or so and if it comes to pass,or it's still ringing in your head, heart or ears , then it can only be him.Your imagination and the devil quickly give up but God doesn't.

    This is my belief...

It's not a belief my dear, it's a mental illness.

Go see your psychiatrist first thing Monday morning.

This God fella, what's the point of him? He seems to speak to a lot of people, yet he's never spoken to me. I guess I'm not one of the chosen few. Or maybe it's because my mind is more rooted in reality than the minds of the jesus brigade.

And the thing is... when God actually does open his big, fat, omnipotent kisser why is it that such spellbinding drivel comes out? You'd think God would have some pretty impressive sh@t to say on the state of the nation, life, death and everything else but he offers nothing. Nada. Not even a sausage. If I was a God believer I'd want my money back! And what of those who claim to be in secret communicado with God? Lets think about this for a moment : Here you are, with your own special hotline to...*gulp*... God! What pearls of devine wisdom does he offer you? If at all?

And could it be, the 'advice' he offers is merely your own imagination providing you with insights to your problems, which you attribute to God because you're just a plain crackpot?

God doesn't say anything about the nations? He's already said LOADS about that in the bible, you're just not reading it, and neither is anybody else. Here is the devil claming that the nations were delivered to him by God:

"[5] And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
[6] And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
[7] If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine." (Luke 4)

Ok, so God in his word revealed what is going on with the nations. Now, here is what happens when Christ returns to take the nations back as HIS via genocide from the armies out of heaven:

"And the armies which were in heaven followed him (Jesus) upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

        "And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword;

        "And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;

"That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great." (Revelation 19:14-18)

At that point the world is his: "and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever." (Revelation 11:15)

This doom and gloom was announced way before the book of Revelation was penned, back in the old testament when it said: "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God."

God has nothing to say about the nations?

If you stay BEHIND, way behind the knowledge revealed in scripture, you'll never know anything of what God has said, and you'll end up paying for it with the rest of the world.

"Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." (BIBLE - James 4:4)

Well, If you want to know all about God, the place to go is the Bible. It is helpful if you go to a good Bible believing church to obtain understanding. If you aren't sure of the things of God, and you are sincere in finding the truth, ask Him to show you where to go and you can even ask Him to show Himself to you ( I don't mean physically). God loves you and if you read my hubs then you know I am all about God's love for you and me. Once you discover that truth and really know it deep inside you, the truth will set you free from all these thoughts of God and His wacky world. His Truths are simple and Jesus is the Son that He sent to die on the cross for you(and He still would have gone to the cross for you if you were the only one). Find out about the love of God for you and you can have peace, joy, love, hope, and more. This is your opportunity to know that the creator of the universe knows you and loves you dearly. Everything else you get from knowing Him is icing on the cake. Be Blessed.

You do it to all people who believe in God that way though. There are too many beliefs to lump it all like that. MY doctrine is not a hate filled diatribe.

Telling people they're going to hell is not the only way of projecting hate and fear. I guess I wonder why you feel the need to say things like this so often so I talked to my son about it (the oldest, 27, not the 15 yr old). I told him about how so many atheists, questioners, whatever, came into religious forums just to attack believers by claiming the believers were attacking when they clearly weren't. It's gotten incredibly annoying but my son said, "To be fair, people DO come up to me and tell me I'm going to hell. Oh, they say it nicely but that's what they mean."

Does that really happen to you in real life very often? I had someone do that to me once long ago, didn't even bother to ask if I was a believer first! If that happens to you a lot, then sorry, I understand, it would be too infuriating to ignore.

    earnest, maybe you'll like these:

We were living in Germany, I had three sick little ones (chicken pox) crying and miserable. My stepson had just been abandoned by his mother and had arrived from America feeling, of course, sad and rejected. Here comes some man to my door asking, "How would you like to LIVE FOREVER?!" I just said, "Good Lord, NO!" and shut the door in his face.

Another time I was having a birthday party for one of my boys and a couple came to my door asking if I'd like to discuss God or whatever. I said no, I'm in the middle of a birthday party and the guy asked, "Would you like to know why God considers birthday celebrations evil?" DUH.

There is a God and he does speak to us when we are in a mental place to hear him.  Many years ago I was driving home from work. He had a conversation with me that seemed to last for about fifteen minutes.  I drove straight home during this conversation (normally a 20 minute derive) 1 1/2 hours had passed before I walked through the front door???.  Call it anything ya want to. It happened.  A few times this happened and I was in awe because of the wisdom that I had just heard.  THE  answer to everyone's troubles; I pulled over to the side of the road to write it down ... BUT... It melted away before pin touched paper.   Definitely he sometimes talkes to me. Probably to everyone for I am no one special.  I think that we all get a little of what I just described.

Okay, I know some of you won't believe this, and that's okay. This really did happen, however.

Several years ago, my youngest daughter and her boyfriend got into some trouble with drugs. She was in the local jail of another county, and it was right before Christmas. I was upset, of course, but I was horrified that she was going to spend Christmas in jail. They had told me that there was no way she would get out before Christmas because the judge who had to set her bail was recovering from a heart attack.

Anyway, I was driving home from town all alone one day, and I heard a voice that told me to call MR. Bryant. I was startled because I knew no one else was in the jeep except for me. And the message made no sense at all. Mr. Bryant didn't even live in the same county that had my daughter. I tried to shrug it off, but the voice persisted. When I got home, I called Mr. Bryant, an acquaintance of ours. He told me the sheriff of that county, along with the judge, were his best friends! Mr. B called both of them, and the sheriff personally took the papers to the sick judge's house for him to sign. In an hour or so, Mr. B called me and told me to go get my daughter!

I had no way of knowing any of this.  ??

    1. Misha profile image62
Mishaposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Now you are having a hard task of proving the voice belonged to the old bearded man in a white rode that lives on a cloud, or to his son, or even anyone they sent to you. wink

Otherwise it sounds quite interesting, and I have no reason not to believe it smile

Hearing a voice while driving is meaningless. It confirms nothing. It certainly doesn't confirm the existence of God. Your story can best be described as coincidence.

Coincidence is something that happens all the time. It happens with such frequency that believers are unable to tell the difference between genuine coincidence and truly inexplicable happenings. Coincidence merely serves to give believers something to attribute their half baked faith too.

He speaks through dreams and visions, or simply through the actions or words and influences of others He puts in your path. He speaks to me through His written Word as well as dreams and signs when I ask for guidance and direction about certain things. It is through His Holy Spirit with which we communicate. If you discern the statement rightly....it smacks of pride and arrogance.

They key to this is in the opening line "Why would I want to...."

      The answer is:

JUST EXACTLY WHO ARE YOU ?? !!....TO EVEN ASK SUCH A LAME QUESTION ??.....
as if "YOU" are a somebody with wisdom to even think GOD is not personal.

There is not one iota of truth to the statement as all
"a being that transcends the idea of personal altogether? "

GOD has always been personal from day one in the garden.

HE has often revealed Himself to many men and women and you say He is not personal?

Being able to see beyond the illusion of the physical realm.

To discern the thoughts and intentions of the hearts of others.

To listen to the speaking silence.

To know that perception is an illusion.

Being aware of the invisible first and making the physical realm subject to you.

Walking and moving in a realm that cannot be seen.

To discern the truth in all things heard and seen rather than believe the lie of perceptions illusion.

Testing the spirits of all mankind and discerning where they come from and who they represent.

To rise above this realm and put physicality under your foot.
