why do you hate it so much? I find it difficult as well, but mostly because of toomuch hype to make it magical and too much money spent on too many gifts. its more stressful than magical if you ask me. but i still enjoy the ambiance of christmas.
I love Christmas. Though it's really not for the whole Jesus B-Day thing , but more for the stores to liquidate their end of the year inventory , I try not to buy much , but still have a fun time decorating up and use it as a good excuse to just have plain old fun
I'm with you, UW. I've had a few Christmases that were extremely depressing, but that's to be expected. Life happens. But overall, taken in the mindset intended, it can be a great time of year, even without the hype and commercialism--or even religion.
Spreading goodwill, kindness and showering people with even the smallest gifts, whether tangible or intangible is not such a bad thing.
I love Christmas, too. Just think of Christmas as the birthday anniversary of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, who makes all our days great even if there are ups and downs to it. Christmas is our one day chance to serve Him by doing good to others.
In the sermon our parish priest gave this 1st day of our "Misa de Gallo" this morning, he particularly mentioned that Bangladeshis regard Christmas their time to give gifts to the deserving and even to say "thank you".(That is, they thank the Lord for this chance to love others).
Now I will love Christmas even more for this new-found knowledge.
I'm not a Christian either but people are generally in a good mood around the season, so I certainly enjoy it as well. A couple of days ago, the subway system broke down and everyone had to pack into a crowded bus. A girl next to me pulled a ukulele out of her backpack and sang a few carols. It was cute.
Christmas is what you make of it. I am Christian so I focus on church and the Bible. My sister is a Pagan, (we are a mixed family!) and she focuses on the winter solstice. We don't focus on buying things. Turn off the TV and you won't be bothered by the ads. Smile at someone and it will brighten your day.
Yes, I agree, Tuesday is really special. I usually stay up late on a Monday night in anticipation of Tuesday coming, and then get up early Tuesday morning so as to not miss a minute of it Forget about Christmas and long-live Tuesdays.
Wow, I thought I was the Grinch. Here's my take on christmas....this holiday has gotten to be about overindulging children into believing that it's a huge day for them to get whatever they want without showing any respect, grace, or tact. Come on....I don't have children, will never have children except for my fiance's two from a previous relationship....and it seems this day has turned into a marathon of shopping and indulging and indulging and shopping for them. It sickens me....but then again, I'm having a bad fkn day. There I said it....it's a children's holiday....I don't have children, therefore the meaning of it is lost on me. It meant something when I was around my family now I'm giving myself up for everyone else. Kim, can I come to your home. I think we'd have fun drinking nog and doggin' on people.
I LOVE Christmas! Everyone's off from work, and it's a great opportunity to spend time with family and friends. My house is all decorated, so it always looks wonderful at this time of year.
Because I have young grandchildren, Christmas Eve is my favorite day of the year. We read the Bible story from Luke, open gifts, laugh, eat together, and go out and search the skies for Rudoph's red nose. Everyone is always happy and in a festive mood.
There's not a lot of thinking about it involved. There are people who have had normal lives that have had a "normal" amount of the usual kind of troubles (even the big ones and the "normal" kind of loss and grief); but then there are people who have lives that are so full of unrelenting crap and and who may live under so much oppression for so long it pretty much beats the Christmas out of them.
bojangles, I don't think it's an "artificial sense of giving and compassion" for most people. I just think it's the faking being happy thing that irks a lot of people.
poor you, dear Bovine. You should get on well with my brother. He hates xmas because it interfers with his football and he sees all these amateur drinkers get in the way of the proffessionals, like him,. Last time I spoke to him he was about to play a game with his dog called'let's destroy thexmas tree and blame it on the cat !!!' I love his bah humbug attitude,. Hope you enjoy a day off work or something. Cheers !
Christmas is not just christ birth yet the birth of all human children of God Jesus the holy spirit world wide. New world birth life is the god truth of Jesus why Jesus died why humanity has gone to hell. the holy human return of God birth right to all humanity
I pray all Godless people would be like you. Where I live Godless people have misunderstood Christmas. Instead of sharing gifts and loving each other, they spend Christmas eve drinking alcohol, taking drags and being involved in illicit sex.
Did I miss something about Christmas? After more than 50 Christmases in my life, with any different combination of family members, I have to say I've never witnessed, or participated in, the particular combination of things mentioned here. Christmas Eve, for a lot of people, is about things like baking cranberry bread, having friends come by, and generally have a nice, peaceful, evening.
I don't know I kind of like the corniness. Even though the historical Jesus was born no where near December, and most of the stuff we do has really little to do with him , tree, log etc. I really enjoy the holiday. I love having the tree with colored lights, and Christmas music. It really does seem people are friendlier. Money is tight, I fell at work with one of my kids and am out of work because of an injured Knee, but it's not about gifts, more about gratitude and family for me.
I personally am not a big fan of christmas. Let me rephrase that. I can't stand christmas. There are so many reasons - from the fact that letting our kids sit on a strange old man's lap is in direct contradition to what...
Are you looking forward to Christmas and the holidays?I can remember times I couldn't wait for it, to be over as soon as possible. Now I just can't wait to see the first lights in town! I love Christmas!
So many people around the world celebrate Christmas by buying Christmas trees decking them with gold and silver ornaments, hanging lights on their houses, spending thousands of dollars on presents, creating that...
