I suppose if I used one word to describe God, it would have to be graceful. The grace that God exhumes is unprecdented. It is unlimited and totally undeserving of anyone to recieve, but He gives it anyway.

Through the Son we have the opportunity again to dwell with the Father.  So to me they represent the paramount or sum total of man's progression.  Their purpose is for our happiness and exaltation.  They are the example of what we are to be.

Dear Nikki I am very saddened by peoples reactions to your question. Are there really so many misguided people out there or do they just choose to be ignorant in this matter. Nobody alive today met Captain Cook, Nostradamus,Alexander Graham Bell, Adolf Hitler and many many more famous people but they don't have a problem with believing they existed. They read books about what each of them did and thats cool.
Jesus was also a very real man who did wonderful things on this earth so why do people have a problem reading His stories in His Book. The Bible is A Wonderful Book that has stood the test of time. God created everything and without him there was nothing. Man may have become clever at most things but show me just one who can tame the wind, tornadoes, floods, famines to name but a few. God is everything to me. Walk outside and see the beauty in every tree, flower, bird, sunrise and sunset. Lightening and thunder, colours of the rainbow etc and have a good think about how it all began.

That's because there are a tremendous amount of resources and evidence for their existence.

There is only the bible that states Jesus existed, no other sources collaborate it, even in the Roman records books of the time. Nada. Ziltch.

Did your god tame the earthquake last week or the tsunami a few years ago?

No thanks, I would rather do the science that demonstrates how everything began rather than look in a book of ancient myths and superstitions for answers.

Come on, this analogy is so terrible you must be able to see the problem.

If you had never heard of Captain Cook and I explained to you that he was an omniscient, omnipresent being who loves everyone and wants you to know him you would rightly ask "Well, where is he then?"

After I waffled for a bit about how Captain Cook wants you to have free will re whether you come to know him or not and how faith is a virtue and generally spent some time avoiding the question you'd come to the conclusion the person I was describing did not, in fact exist.

And you'd be right!  The being described does not exist with the name "Captain Cook" or any other!

No, this is what god is!

"I will sweep away everything in all your land," says the LORD.  "I will sweep away both people and animals alike. Even the birds of the air and the fish in the sea will die.  I will reduce the wicked to heaps of rubble, along with the rest of humanity," says the LORD.  "I will crush Judah and Jerusalem with my fist and destroy every last trace of their Baal worship.  I will put an end to all the idolatrous priests, so that even the memory of them will disappear.  For they go up to their roofs and bow to the sun, moon, and stars.  They claim to follow the LORD, but then they worship Molech, too.  So now I will destroy them!  And I will destroy those who used to worship me but now no longer do.  They no longer ask for the LORD's guidance or seek my blessings."   (Zephaniah 1:2-6 NLT)

Whoa!! Tiger, I hate to slow your roll, but why are you stuck in the Old Testament? And, why are all of your references to destruction and damnation? There is more in the Bible than that.....

Jesus came to give us life and that more abundantly....why don't you concentrate on that instead of the other......I mean if you aren't on the side of destruction, you won't be destroyed. That's easy, right?

And you don't have to be perfect to get on the right side....After all, you are already accepted by the blood of Jesus Christ.....all you have to do is realize that.

              missing the point, yet again.

law is knowledge of right/wrong and the temptation/desire to do either one -regardless of consequence.

those who live by law are subject to the rules, consequence and limitations of said laws. (i.e. murder 1st degree, law of attraction, etc etc).

those who live beyond the consciousness of either do not sway right or wrong/have no desire for those things, those thoughts, the desire or temptation of them. Thus, they are not subject/limited to them.

      Nikki,
The fact that you are asking about God shows that He is already at work in your heart. To answer your question, God means everything to me. He is my father, husband, friend, provider, comforter, protector, healer, counselor ... I can go on and on. He came to this earth in the human form of His Son Jesus Christ so we can get a glimpse of who He is and be reconciled to Him. Without Jesus you cannot get to the Father.

I wouldn't care if those beliefs were kept behind closed doors, they aren't. They are forced upon us every day in almost every aspect of society. Religion detests mankind, something I am quite fond of.

And those jokes you're talking about, are only that: jokes.
Why instead of treating us like sinners, you don't make jokes about us?

Personally, tantrum, I applaud you for at least having a set of beliefs.  Many people don't have that integrity of heart.  You will never hear me joking or tearing you down for your feelings.

I think it is hard for many who see the hypocrisy and the hate that comes from many that claim to believe in God, to take any reference to God without great skepticism.

The total distortion of the teachings of great religious leaders like Christ has caused suffering and death.

But if the true message from Jesus Christ was followed we would all be better off.

    Matthew 22:39-40

12 “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”

To me They are the pinnacle of freedom.  Through the choices we made and the choices given us we are now living in a world where we have the agency to define our path.  Justice - absolute justice.  This life was never meant to be fair one person to the next.  Yet - the common outlook is the same potential whether it be a rich man or a poor woman in a depressed country.  Although the potential is the same what we do in this life, because of agency, largely defines that outlook for ourselves.  This is part of the true genius of God the Eternal Father, His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.  That is what They mean to me.  It is mercy and justice that God is no a respector of persons.

And who are you to say separatism in some cases is a bad thing?

  48. waynet profile image69
    waynetposted 14 years ago

A ruler, someone who says they may have power, but when it comes down to it, they are powerless, god lets bad things happen and blames it on evil, even though he is supposed to be the master of the universe, he is no He-man.

God is only a word to put us in cages and let our mind be caged!

  49. marinealways24 profile image60
    marinealways24posted 14 years ago

If God didn't mean separatism, there wouldn't be so many different opinions or "interpretations" on what God is or means.

  50. goldenpath profile image68
    goldenpathposted 14 years ago

I am sorry to impose but all these charges against what "God" thinks and supposedly does are perceptions that we as humans have.  The various interpretations of God is not His fault but due to various peoples, cultures and histories.  There is no wrong in alternate perceptions of God in this life.

Also, He does not blame evil for the things going on here.  We do that and unfortuneately many blame Him as well.  God's perception of man's potential far exceeds any short term judgements that we feel His places on people.  He is far too omnipotent for something as miniscule as that.  Only the Adversary has such short-sightedness.  The Adversary and us.  It narrows our view and potential view to see all the injustice in the world and automatically blame God.  The world as we know it was never meant to be perfect.  Learning and intelligence cannot be gained through a perfect world.

      1. goldenpath profile image68
goldenpathposted 14 years agoin reply to this

If that question is for me then the answer is neither.  In my view He needs no defending nor does my belief in Him.  It is my overall view of the mission and purpose of God that I am trying to express.  In that view I see what's beyond the injustice around us.  What's beyond - is justice and mercy.  It's a matter of are we willing to hold on to that hope long enough to realize it in the end.

          1. goldenpath profile image68
goldenpathposted 14 years agoin reply to this

The purpose of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is to bring to pass the immortality and the eternal life of all mankind.  All.  Those are two separate things, immortality and eternal life.  Completely different.  Immortality is for all to gain their body with the soul, in permanent condition, during the Resurrection.  This is a great gift but even greater is eternal life which all of us regardless of economic status in this life can have equal claim to.  It deals with eternal progress, responsibility and authorities.

WE create the separatism.  WE create the unity.  HE provides eternal life and progression for every man, woman and child who has ever lived, is living and will yet live upon the earth.  God is not a respector of persons.

goldenpathposted 14 years agoin reply to this

All discussions here need not be an opportunity to "trap" someone.  I have not backed myself into a corner.  When the time comes that our spirit and body separate we will enter the realm of spirits and, yes, we will be separated into various glories according to how we've lived our lives.  It is there that we will be taught and instructed in many things and to await our varied appointed times to be resurrected with our restored bodies.
