Several people wrote pretty good hubs about this "new" sign. Astronomers and Astrologers have been aware of it for thousands of years. In the tropical system of Astrology, the Spring Equinox  used to begin on March 21st. It is still considered that way, although it is a known fact that the stars are always moving and never at rest. From March 21st, there are 30 degrees added for each Astrology sign, beginning with Aries, ending with Pisces, for a total of 380 degrees, a full circle. There is no new sign. If tides affect the Earth and Full Moons bring more births and injured people to emergency rooms, how can people not believe that planetary postions at their time of birth affect them?

I don't know how much astrology can predict, but I did notice years ago that, at times, the horoscope was uncannily true. I always thought it would be fun, if I had money to blow, to have someone read the stars for me.

If you do get a professional horoscope, it should cost around $100.00, and the person should spend about an hour or hour and a half with you. The person who reads it for you should either let you record it, or have a system of recording it themselves, so you come away with a CD and can listen a few months later and see if it does jive with what is happening in your life. To know your rising sign, you need to know the time of your birth. In our generations that's not usually  hard, but in earlier ones the women were often given drugs and put to sleep during labor, and may be off on the birth time. It should be within a two hour window. Best wishes if you do get one, it can really give you an overview of how life would be if you don't step in to use your free will to change a direction you see and don't like. I like being prepared. Never think of the horoscope as final, you can always have the power to change what seems negative. Or what seems negative can be the catalyst for change!

Oh.thanks for the advice. That's actually less than I thought it would be. I thought there would be a whole lot of tedious work in figuring it out for an individual.

No Pink, you remain what you are. The new sign is for everyone now born within that period. wink

I was a born Cancer and for fun used to read both Gemini and Cancer readings in horoscope section of newspapers and magazines. Most of the time the Gemini readings matched better to my life than the Cancer readings. Now that the 13th star has appeared, I fall into the Gemini column. The 13th star must be there. To all who believed in horoscope, may now spell it as "horrorscope".

Good one, this scared people smile. I am also a Cancer, but my Mercury (the way I think) and Venus (social life, the way I love) are in Gemini. You could have those planets in Gemini too. Every  planet and our Moon is in a sign, and you have a rising sign (your facade) or ascendant. Your mind is probably very active and you are intelligent and learn fast. If you've had 2 great loves in your life, or many in between ones, that's a Venus in Gemini. Plus you make friends easily and are well liked. You get bored quickly. Is that you? Those two planets are the closest to our Sun, and many times are in the sign before or after our sun sign. Hope that helps!

There is no new zodiac sign; the recent fuss was all based on a total misunderstanding arising from ignorance of astrology. However, there are a few fringe astrologers who believe that there a 13th zodiac sign. Although the meaning is not established or clear, because the "13th zodiac sign" has no tradition, they say the constellation Ophiuchus, which represents a man holding a serpent, has something to do with health and medicine. The sign before Ophiuchus, Scorpio, rules surgery, and the sign after it, Sagittarius, rules health and sports, so it seems like overlap. It seems senseless because it IS! There is no new zodiac sign.

Planets travel through the heart of every other zodiac constellation but only through a small margin of the constellation Ophiuchus. The ancients such as Ptolemy knew this, and therefore did not include it in the zodiac; this is not news.
