Good for you ESPN. Drop him permanently as you did that other right-wing airbag Rush Limbaugh.
He made an unfortunate reference. Me thinks (MSM) ESPN tried to make him SUBMIT - CRAWL, GROVEL, BEG & BAWL - for is Monday night gig. Hank, the man that he is, refused. I really do respect this man.
Monday Night Football without Hank opening it up??? Say it ain't so!
I should boycott the game tonight to show my disapproval...but I won't since the Colts are playing...
That's ridiculous to pull his opening performance--he's done it for how many years now? As long as I can remember...I hate it when they pull this PC stuff...
Hank's a redneck and always has been--he's said outrageous things before, I'm sure, and will continue to...he just can't help himself...
I need to add that I love rednecks...they call 'em as they see 'em, whether they should or not, lol...
This is a non issue made into an issue. Espn has the right but over thios is low. Williams JR linked Obama and Hitler through golf so what. Theres alot worse things you could say then what Jr said.
Actually, he didn't link them...this is a quote that he said today:
“Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme – but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was. They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the President.”
He was comparing the Obama/Boehner playing golf together as odd as Hitler and Netanyahu playing together...He wasn't saying Obama was like Hitler at all....
What was that line from Animal House?
"Fat, drunk, and stupid..."
I have to admit I give the man some respect for stating what thousands of people around the world are thinking! Bout time no one is afraid to speak out- I must say that it is a shame that our President is so disrespected and a joke, dont get me wrong, he deserves it, but it just amazes me how peoples respect and admiration? if you will has ceased for a leader.
Hank's got just as much integrity as Obama does, and more guts.
If they ban Hank over this, they should've already banned Obama for all his racially-charged, anti-conservative words and actions.
I actually met Hank when I was doing roadie work. I was working the venue set up. He is actually crazier than a loon. You all know that right? He would only let women roadies unload from his bus (he was scared the males would try to attack him) When he walked through the tunnel from his limo to the stage, everyone backstage had to turn and face the wall... we weren't allowed to look at him or make any sudden moves. He then proceeded to forget all the lyrics to his songs. Same deal when he left, which was a serious pain in the ass since we were having to make stage/equipment changes for Travis Tritt.
As crazy as a paranoid redneck who fails to understand than ANYONE doing roadie work could likely hold their own regardless of whether they were male or female.
Since we only have your word to go on I'll reserve judgment on Hank until you have corroborating evidence. Video?
*shrugs* Do I have video from a 25 hour day around 15 years ago... nope. And I wasn't there to "shoot video" anyway. I was there to make money and get home. It was the fruit of the loom country comfort tour (hank williams jr., charlie daniels, travis tritt, and some red haired chick) came to the WVU coliseum around 1997. ( It was after my first but before my second.) Research it if you like, or don't believe me. I save the black mark on my soul from lying for a situation that I give a damn about though.
No video? Too bad it was a good story and that's what it will remain.
LOL, well if I knew that some random person on the internet who's opinion I don't give a rat's red behind about was going to ask me 15 years later for proof I would .... LMAO nope, still wouldn't have taped a day of work just for your benefit.
Then why bother to respond at all? Why not read what I wrote and chuckle to yourself and go on about your business? People do odd things.
Because I am a liberal and I have free speech... which in this case means telling you I don't give a crap what you think... I consider it a public service announcement, lest you start thinking that anyone gives a damn about your opinion.
It helps keep over-large egos and self-important sots in check. (In general, of course I don't mean YOU personally)
Honestly, I'm not surprised by these stories...we used to live in Nashville, and were around people in the music business regularly. It's amazing how many of them have their little "quirks", for lack of a better word, lol.
But...what he said was NOT directed as a comparison between Obama and Hitler. It wasn't the smartest thing to say, but it sure wasn't worth him getting yanked from Monday Night Football--that was just plain stupid, and from what I've read, a lot of people are up in arms about it! And, of course, I mean that "up in arms" part figuratively, NOT literally, lol...
Crazy as he may be, he still has a loyal following.
If you vote at the bottom of the story you will find that a majority of Americans still believe in free speech. Too bad you are not among them.
You don't seem to understand that concept. While you're looking it up, check out the term free market.
I understand the concept and know that ESPN or whomever made the decision has every right to make it. I'm saying that a majority of those voting think it was a stupid thing to do.
I've found that about 90% of the time when someone brings up "freedom of speech" they are misusing the term. If the government isn't the party doing the oppression, it's generally not a freedom of speech violation. If anything, ESPN is exercising their free speech rights by kicking Hank to the curb. If ol' Hank were arrested for saying what he said, that would be a freedom of speech violation.
I never said his freedom of speech right had been violated or that ESPN didn't have the right to do what they did. Its very simple, a majority of Americans believe in freedom of speech and a minority are fascists/liberals/democrats, its all the same.
One can't help but recall Demosthenes's famous attacks on Phillp II, as well as Cicero's condemnation of Marc Antony.
'Hank' will no doubt now join these and other historic figures in the pantheon of orators.
With great anticipation, I wait in front of the TV for the Grand Dame of Nashville, Minnie Pearl, to engage into a heated discourse with 'Hank'
Not since the Lincoln - Douglas debates has there been such a clash of titans!
Adding Minnie Pearl in to this...cracks me up. That there is pure comedic genius, Greek One.
God rest her soul.. even if she is not dead (not sure, to tell you the truth)
What...Minnie Pearl is dead! Dang...I was thinking they just stopped filming Hee Haw...a few years ago! (I got'ta stop watching so many re-runs)[Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon (October 25, 1912 – March 4, 1996), A.K.A Minnie Pearl]
As great as her work was on that show, I remember her more fondly for her days in burlesque when she used to entertain the troops heading over to WW1 under the persona of "Major Pearl Necklace".
She will be missed
*doh*
I totally misunderstood HWJ's analogy.
I thought he was comparing Boner to Hitler and Obama to Netanyahu!
What was really funny was what Gretchen Carlson said earlier about Roseanne Barr's comment on beheading the wealthy.
"Why do we care what Roseanne Barr says? Why do we give so much attention to these celebrities and what they say?"
I have no idea what happened but I find myself strangely attracted to Minnie Pearl.
there is no need to be concerned... Minnie embodied all the intense sexual energy of her generation
The "pearl necklace" was named after her.
And THIS generation, too, it seems...
Go Minnie!!!!
Later in that show they talked to Ted Nugent about the Conservative candidates. LOL
Who listens to celebrities? Uhhh You guys do.
Gotta love those comedians on Fox and Friends. Pretty much all they do is talk to irrelevant celebrities who will bash Obama, and then when a celebrity says something liberal-leaning they ask why anyone should care what a celebrity thinks. No self-respecting politicians go on Fox and Friends because they recognize what a circus of dunces that show is. Considering the shape Congress is in, that's saying something.
Boy was I confused by the quote, I thought he was referring to Boehner as Hitler and Obama as Netenyahu.
I just thought that the Prez was insulted by being compared to an Israeli?
Boehner playing golf with Obama is like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu. Yup, he seems to be comparing Boehner to Hitler and Obama to Netanyahu.
I'm still not sure what Hank's real beef is. Does he not want Republicans and Democrats working together? Does he oppose compromise in all forms? This "us vs. them" mentality is a major part of the problem with politics at the federal level, in my opinion.
Perhaps it was the actual golf game that he found offensive.
Being such a refined, dignified, pastoral sport, golf is (in HWJ's mind) only to be played by people who are known to NOT to hate each other's guts*.
Perhaps Obama should have challenged Boner to a one-on-one of hoops?
Or maybe arm wrestling.
*This way of thinking, if adopted, could really help reduce the national debt. If all those country clubs close, think of all the disposable income rich people will have to hire other Americans!
"This "us vs. them" mentality is a major part of the problem with politics at the federal level, in my opinion."
I honestly believe one side - very soon - is literally going to hv to stamp out the existence of the other. This is a fight between capitalism and socialism. I do hope the good guys win.
And Boehner would be insulted to be compared to a German?
Come on...stop trying to imply that Obama is an anti-semite!!
Hitler/Netanyoohu...pretty specific people.
golf is worse then saying fu and having clubs is like having a white hood.
I did mention, back on another page, that Hank DID explain himself...
Obama/Boehner....Hitler/Netanyahu--About as opposite from each other as you can get...he wasn't comparing the first group to the second, just that the pairing was so ridiculous to him!
Here's his quote again:
“Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme – but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was. They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the President.”
I get HWJ's point.
You can never be sure about these politicians in sports situations.
Take, for example, the pairing of Dick Cheney and his "friend" he went hunting with....
Where you lead, Ron, I will gladly follow.
Thank you. I'll try not to make any sudden stops.
Would be happy with any kind of forward or even sideways motion!
The landscape is suddenly so barren.
The road to nowhere (almost wrote "knowwhere" -- Freudian?)
No wonder Letterman had to lay off 5 people.
The economy is booming compared to the GOP
The 5 greatest questions man has asked. So simple in and of themselves, but so complex and elusive are their answers....
1) Is there a God?
2) What is the meaning of life?
3) What comes after death?
4) Is there life on other planets?
5) Are you ready for some football?
None of my rowdy friends will be coming over on Monday mights anymore.

Who do you like better for introducing the NFL games.....Hank JR. or Faith?

I am not saying ALL Republicans are, I am just wondering why anyone would actually stay with a party that is clearly not on the same page as most of America? Most (not all) but most who are die hard right Republicans watch Fox news. Not sure if you have noticed, they can't even get along with each...

I'm sorry, but I cannot abide this man as president. He sounds like a demented 10-year-old. How anyone can believe he is fit is beyond my comprehension. He speaks less eloquently than my elderly mother who has Alzheimer's.I've truly tried to understand the Trump supporter who...

Long story short: The Satanic Temple, as they are wont to do, applied for the right to include their holiday display in the capitol building. The state allowed it because, under the First Amendment, if they let Christians erect a display, they have to let everyone do it. So some MAGA nut made the...

When will President Obama tell the people his plan to change the economy around?
by Sheila 12 years ago
If you are voting for Obama in November = can you give specifics about why? Most of Obama's promises have not come to fruition, our economy sucks, American pride is almost gone. WHY would anyone seriously want to re elect this man? I am serious - I need to know.
