Okay everyone it is done! I am sorry for the many changes and delays but as many of you know this project was not really a project in the beginning. I was just throwing an idea out there and everyone jumped in which is fantastic but has made for many garbled and confusing instructions and for that I do apologize. My hub simply titled "Hubtrails" is a complete list of instructions they will not change again and again I am sorry for the rough start. I hope everyone is still as interested in joining in spite of the minor changes being made along the way.
Ohma
thanks Ohma, I'm on my way and I'm sure it's fine if you post it here since staff already knows about and approves of it. maybe others will see it and want to join in.
o.k. I read it. great job! now, my question. ethel said she did the European capstone hub of which she has each country listed.
the hubs I want to include first are of Paris and Sceaux, a small commune outside of Paris. How do I tag these hubs?
France or city/province?
thanks.
I would write a Capstone for France and tag it with "hubtrail-France" and "Hubtrarail-Europe". then link all of your sub hubs to that Capstone.
I guess I thought that the hubs should be written about places we have been and know about. If I write a capstone for France, it would be from research only. I was only going to add my hubs where I have visited, Paris and Sceaux and make one of them a capstone. not trying to be difficult, just wondering how to proceed. Am I the only one participating with France hubs?
The capstone about France can be just basic history narrowed down to your corner of the country have a look at my Capstone for Pa. to get the idea.
Ohma,
I have bookmarked your hub and have a couple I would like to add so once it is complete I will follow your instructions should I have any questions I will e-mail you. Thanks for the wonderful (other) site.
AE Glad you will be joining us. I think if we spread the word sooner or later we can have the best travel review site on the internet! invite everyone you know to join OK!
Okay, I've your informative hub on how to do this. But, I think I'm still missing something. Once we have published with all the correct tags, is there anything else we need to do? I guess I don't quite understand how the overall picture works. For example, how do the hubs here end up on Marisa's site? Do we need to do anything over there? How does the Wikipage tie into this and how will it work all together?
I'm sorry for all the questions....just really trying to understand the whole picture.
no Marisa's site is set to update every 12 hours according to the HP feed. Your tags are what is creating the HP feed.
Urban will also be setting the wiki page up to update on the feed here.
Okay, I get it now. Thank you Ohma for explaining this. If you need a hand with anything, give me a shout!
I have been doing searches for my hubtrails tags. If someone adds Hubtrail- cape cod, martha's vineyard, or nantucket I will add the link to the bottom of my hubtrail-capstone.
I will do the same for Massachusetts when it is complete.
I would also like to do another capstone for the boston area.
Is this a good idea?
Leave it for now until Marisa lets us know she has modified the site. I do not know which feeds are presently being used but the tags created by the new feeds are the ones that will be used when the site is updated. so include them as instructed on my hub and we well let everyone know when the "hubtrail-capstone" tag can be discarded.
Thank you Ohma! I will be gettin' on top of more articles this coming weekend
GReat Aimee I have so much reading to do it is going to take me forever to get them all read.
What a great idea. Hubpages definitely has an opportunity to take advantage of geotagging too!
I will submit some for Washington State.
Thanks for doing this.
Hi ohma gosh you are busy
I have written a Yorkshire capstone hub
http://hubpages.com/hub/Hubtrail-Capstone-Yorkshire
I have only written all my travel hubs about places I have visited. Hello hello has said that I can add her travel hubs to mine such as the European hubtrail. I will read your how to and amend where necessary.
Should I also re-title my UK, European and Greek Island hub title to include the word Capstone.
My Capstones are all done now unless anyone needs any doing
Thanks for your help
I am finding several hubs that are being mistagged. hubtrail-(insert continent here) means insert your continent, for me in the US this is "hubtrails-americas". The same is true for the country tag again mine is "hubtrail-USA"
And mutiny92 what is Geo tagging?
Love From HP guys check it out http://blog.hubpages.com/2010/04/happy- … ma-friends
exciting! the blog and the google map. very cool.
This is really awesome.
I kickstarted a collaborative Google Map for Hubtrails destinations:
Hubtrails Map
Ohma, Marisa Wright, and Maddie Ruud are collaborators on this map, and they can invite additional collaborators.
I entered one destination mentioned in one of Patty Inglish's Hubs. I "pinned" the destination, added an excerpt from her Hub about that destination, and added a link to the full Hub.
Should be a nice adjunct to this project!
Really nice work. I can even see New Zealand at the bottom of the world - even if it isn't named! LOL
You named it!!! Cheers for adding New Zealand to the map.
Jason this is so Cool But I am afraid I am seriously in over my head now. I do not have anywhere near the know how to take care of all of this.
If I can help in any way Ohma please let me know.
No worries, Ohma. You've done a tremendous job starting Hubtrails. You are a collaborator in case you ever want to add more to the map.
EVERYONE: If you've participated in Hubtrails, and would like to add your Hubs' destinations on the Hubtrails Google Map, please email me (Jason (dot) Menayan [at] this domain) and I will add you as a collaborator.
This is amazing! Between pinning and panaramic 360's, it will be a virtual tour before actually visiting!
Thanks for this great feature!!!
Some flags have disappeared off the hubtrail map. I checked a few weeks ago and New Zealand and Australia had flags. Now they have none. Any ideas anyone?
I just finished a capstone hub for Massachusetts. If anyone wants a link just let me know.
My friend Ohma, you have really come up with a great idea.
I was honored that you asked me to help but was also sorry that I had to decline. Things in my internet world are just a bit crazy right now.
I will try and get a couple Canadian hubs written but honestly I have about 300 things ahead of that.
You are doing a wonderful job and you have a lot of great people working with you.
Keep up the great work
Dale
Ohma, I think I followed the directions correctly and linked up one of new Benidorm hubs...let me know if I've made a complate pig's ear of the link. No idea if I've done it right or not...and I still can't quite figure out how to do a hub capstone. I don't even know what it is really. I think it's to link more than one hub for the same area...
Izzy
did you have a look at my Hub? http://hubpages.com/hub/Hubtrails. it explains a lot
If you have and are still not sure then Send me an e-mail and we will work it out that way.
Things get to lost in the forums.
Thanks hun, I did read the hub and I think I did it right but I'm not sure so I'll deal with it tomorrow - it's really late here.
You've done a fantastic job of getting this whole thing together but don't let it take up too much of your time when you could be writing hubs instead.
Very cool. I will get to work on my Ohio hub hopefully Sunday. Can I also add other travel related stuff that I already have?
Jason I have asked Another Hubber to take on the responsibility of updating the map daily according to the hubs in the latest feed for the tag "hubtrail-(Your country)" he has not responded yet so I do not know if he will do this. I am thinking that it might be better to have one person handle this.
Your thoughts?
Oh and on the Blog you mentioned imbedding the map? where?
Ohma, Geotagging is meta data that includes the position (whether it is latitude/longitude or whatever. Here is the wiki on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geotagging
This would be a neat function for Hubpages to include on any location specific hub. I bet some good coder out there would be able to take the geotag data and use it in some nice google maps or other app.
Mutiny did you see Jason's post he has started a google map for us.
Ohma: If the person you asked can't do it, that's fine. I'm actually expecting there could be a lot of people who have admin control over the Google map (i.e. collaborators). They could add the locations of the destinations in their own Hubs, and of others. Of course, Maddie and I can help fill in the holes, too. We're just starting out now, but it would be great to see the world map dotted with lots of blue pins.
Mutiny92: Several of us here think a Maps Capsule, esp one that could handle geotagged information, including pictures, would be awesome. (A lot of GPS-enabled phones nowadays geotag pictures) It's pretty complex but it would be a great feature.
Jason is there any thought being given to maybe adding a hubtrails section under the travel category? Could be like "travel"- "hubtrail" - "Hubtrails-Your continent"- "hubtrails-your country" that would go along way to eliminating the confusion over the tags.
Help!
I just googled Hubtrail and although we are getting top billing when I search for it I am also getting this.
http://www.saultstar.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2529049 could this be a problem?
here is a link to Ohma's how-to hub.
http://hubpages.com/hub/Hubtrails
exciting.
Hi, I've read the Hubtrail hub, and is it as simple as adding hubtrail tags to my tags section my travel Hubs? Do I have to write a capstone Hub, or if not how do I add to someone else's capstone.
as far as I understand, you can simply tag it as she explains in her hub and it will be picked up in the RSS feed.
then you choose one of the links for your RSS feed. There's another thread about that. not sure if anything else has changed, Ohma would have to answer that.
* Go into 'Edit Hub'
* At the top right, where you add text, picture and Amazon capsules, there is one for RSS. Add it.
* Open the capsule by pressing edit, just as you do with text capsules.
* Enter a title - something like 'Hubtrail' hubs
* Where it says 'Feed Url' enter:
* http://hubpages.com/tag/HubTrail/hot/?rss or
* http://hubpages.com/tag/HubTrail/best/?rss
* There is a little drop down menu saying 'number of Hubs to display' - set this to 8.
* For display method, set to first sentence.
* Save the capsule, check that 8 Hubs appear, and you are done editing!
hope this helps. I need to get busy writing. enjoy your weekend.
Everyone we have a new addition to the hubtrail team. Arthur Fontes has agreed to be the map keeper for the project. He is going to get with Jason on how they think it best be handled and we will let you know the process if an for inclusion on the map. I think it will not involve any additional work for anyone but Arthur Fontes and boy has he stepped up to take on a Huge Job! Yeah Arthur!
Oops - the map I just looked at had NZ and Australia twice!!! One had the flags and the other no flags. Very strange to have our part of the world twice.
Check on the zoom of the map when you expand it outward. When you focus on one particular part of the map....you zoom in....if you can see the same part of the world...then you are not zoomed in at all.
*bump* this thread back to the top....anyone else interested in writing hubs about locations near them or have researched or visited....

I made this for Cagsil's 30 minutes challenge... it was a HUGE failure there (It took me almost 30 hours hours to complete(kidding!, but many hours indeed). I thought it may work for the Hubtrails, please let me know if it's fine. I already added the RSS and the recommended tags.
I listed it as North America-Caribbean Topic: Snorkeling in Rincón, PR
http://hubpages.com/hub/Snorkeling-in-t … uerto-Rico
Thanks!
that is one beautiful, informative hub! I've snorkeled in the Florida Keys before, but never in Puerto Rico. Sounds lovely, and the pics are amazing. great work!
Yes, I need more Capstones for my hub.....it's lacking many links and cannot finish.
Have you considered publishing before completion to get people interested?
Unfortunately, I would publish like that, but HubPages has a rule that requires it to be a completed or finished hub. So, you can see the dilemma.
Ahhh I so knew I should have taken the hubpages rules class...
Hot on the trail of Hubtrails is a Hubtrails FAQ hub which has just been published.
I've worked with Ohma and here is the link:
http://hubpages.com/hub/World-travel-hubtrail-FAQs
If any more questions are asked frequently, I can add them to the list.
Thanks to those who have read the Hubtrail FAQ's and rated it up. Glad it was useful to you!
Yeah I reviewed it on the feed. Then saw you post it here, then went to it and posted a comment. Looks great!
Thank you so much, both you and Ohma.
Edit: I have also bookmarked it.
Hello all
I've just published another hubtrail hub - its a tour to an active volcano - White Island, New Zealand.
http://hubpages.com/hub/Volcano-Tour-Ne … nd-Islands
This hubtrail project is so cool.
I just clicked on UrbanChaos hubtrail wiki page and there were the hubtrail FAQ's (published this morning) and the latest hubtrails.
The wiki page adds to backlink opportunities provided to hubtrails travel articles by Marisa Wright, Haunty and Ohma's weebly link.
Very exciting. If you like writing about travel, hubtrails IS the place to be.

I am writing a hub on travel in Idaho, but am unsure as how to tie it into the hubtrails program. In particular, the idea of a capstone - one place says use it on the first one I write, another says don't use it, and I can't figure out just what to do. Help here, anyone?
