Select the option "Adsense for feeds" while getting the Ad code and you won't get banned for displaying ads on feeds.

      Hope this helps.

Hello there!!   Listen is it word or world?    Did you actually write all your hubs please explain the misunderstanding.   You have to understand that you dealing with some elite people, they are educated and want to keep hub pages= smart pages, like smart water.  so please talk and explain what happened?  I am not judging you yet.  Just curious.  Thankz.

HubPages may have some elitists but most of us are just here to write. I have found every level of writing here from highly skilled to casual writers. The judgmental attitude I'm seeing from hubbers against their fellow writers does much more damage to our site than anything a single writer could do. Maybe world of the wise collaborated with somebody or had a translator help him. If you wanted to go on a witch hunt, you could do much better than a second language writer.

Seriously, I cannot even fathom how HubPages could promote a score of 89 to a "writer" who has such horrific grammatical and spelling errors in the above few sentences.

Before you even consider "writing" anything else, please get a grasp of the English language.

    Try this for example:

I placed some RSS feeds from Yahoo on my site.  I have AdSense ads on the site.  Somebody told me I may be penalized by Yahoo and AdSense since I am supposed to show ads on RSS feeds.  I would like to know whether this is really true.

Is this what HubPages is about?  If so, then HubPages is in serious need of an immediate overhaul in the methodology in which it calculates scores.

I may claim that the proper spelling of 'penalized' should be PENALISED! I dont think you'll find it with a Z in the Oxford Dictionary!

Really now, as I found this in the OXFORD DICTIONARY!

        penalize

        (also penalise)

          • verb 1 subject to a penalty or punishment. 2 Law make (an action) legally punishable. 3 put in an unfavorable position.

Seems like you are spoiling for a fight - you have completely ignored the sound advice of other hubbers and decided to pick upon one small point. Why?

Ultimately, there are a lot of Hubbers with ESL, and they produce some excellent and informative Hubs - if you want to start criticising and denigrating them, try Helium for size.

You don't have to read their Hubs, so why are you bothered about the standard of English in a forum post? hmm

I’m sure there’s a lot to be said for ending up old and alone, but hey, you’ll always have your grammar, and as for HubPages being a site for 'writers', incorrect.

HubPages is used in many different ways by many different people.

The who point is to write with some sense, no?  Even if you are trying to pass information doesnt it need to be written correctly, at least to the best of your ability. Education is our respect for nature, those people who can write are more intersting to read.  How you speak is how you write. I want my kids to be able to write and express their feelings, not to just a certain group but to all groups.  hub pages are mainly for writers who spend their time on education and educating. Our kids need people like that in the world.  Education is freedom, so is writing.  We all should want to become better writters, and speakers and let our mind expand. Please exuse my spelling. Love to all Koma.

HubPages is written in the English language.  Therefore, it upsets me to see people struggling and attempting to write hubs on HubPages who have absolutely no command of the English language whatsoever.

Furthermore, the attempted English in the aforementioned quoted sentences from "word of the wise" is an absolute atrocity.

I am in no way a prejudice person; however, if one does not know how to put a period at the end of a sentence, spell or capitalize words correctly, etc., then one should not even bother attempting to write at all.  After all, HubPages is all about writing.

        "HubTub" talk about elitist!

For someone that claims to care about the correct use of English grammar, you've actually got an awful way with words. I sure wish you were illegible.

Personally I think world of the wise has worked hard since he's joined HP. He's contributed to the forum, (read: community) and I would generally view him as a worker and someone that's willing to learn.

Here, "Hot Tub."  Just FYI, 'printed' earlier by Ralph Deeds:

Currently there are 7.5 million U.S. participants on HubPages and 6.3 million from other countries accroding to Quantcast.

Here are the top countries according to Quantcast

          Country Uniques (Cookies) Uniques
          United States 8,101,784
          India 1,837,675
          United Kingdom 1,033,773
          Canada 772,356
          Philippines 372,712
          Australia 357,696
          Pakistan 196,030
          Malaysia 151,466
          UAR ... 149,816
          Singapore 126,896
          China 102,017
          Germany 101,196

It's interesting that most of the top participant countries are former British colonies where English is spoken.

HubPages is more "international" than most other similar sites although, as you said, much of the Hub and forum discussion content involves U.S. issues. Perhaps HubPages should consider establishing sections for countries or areas of the world such as the Middle East, Europe, Latin America. There is no reason why the 357,000 Australians could not establish an Australia forum or the Indians, an India Forum or grouping of hubs. It's worth noting, however, that there are a fair number of Hubs and discussions of issues such as global warming that are world issues, not U.S. issues.

OOPS! Now you did it yourself:
"I am in no way a prejudice person;"
should be prejudiced with a "d"

The word "prejudice" is a noun. You want the adverb in this context, which is "prejudiced".

In reply to the comment about grammar: Some of the hubers on here do not have English as there first language and I salute them for producing hubs in an alien form. When commenting in the forums this can come across in a negative way towards them. When they write their hubs they will have tools to help them spell check. Here on the forums my spelling can be awful and I am English as there is no spell check here. So I think we should be a little more understanding and with an author score as high as it is I am sure you are doing everything right as hubpages would not allow you such astatus.

Must admit, I am not into this using perfect English thing, either.

Considering my struggles with Greek, I am not going to judge a Hubber's use of the English language. I also teach a little ESL and I think that it is great that others have the confidence to write and publish articles in another tongue - it is a great way to practice and learn.

Instead of making such comments in an overbearing tone, why not be helpful and offer constructive criticism? smile

Does your wife speak fluent Greek Sufi? I had 7 years of hearing perfect mandarin, and I am awful. I would never attempt it for fear of bringing the house down.
When I spoke Mandarin with an Australian accent in front of our Lord mayor and his friends at a party, I did so at the behest of a very honest friend who told me I sounded hilarious to him! Despite his honesty and my trust for him, I spoke. There was not a dry eye in the place! They were crying with laughter! smile

Nope, her Greek is worse than mine! The problem is that I work very long hours and don't get out and about enough to practice. I can hold basic conversations, and most discussions turn into 'Greeklish.'

Mind you, I have heard from many people that Greek is a strange language to learn - you spend a couple of years struggling to learn it and, suddenly, you find yourself speaking it!

A few months ago, I went to the library and asked for the Greek dictionary. The guy pissed himself laughing and took me to the reference section - the 'dictionary' took up three and a half shelves. Too many words! big_smile

I don't really know about the rss question, however I know that the hubbers who answered the question earlier know their stuff and I would go with that.
Also I just want to say that some of the best hubs on hub pages are written by those with english as their second language and often what is missing in spelling ect is made up with insight, style, voice ect.

    1. profile image0
HubTubposted 14 years agoin reply to this

      Here is some friendly advice:

      english = "English"
      rss = "RSS"
      hub pages = "HubPages"
      ect = "etc"

It is simply called proofreading your work and taking the time to learn the English language.  Do some research as to how grammatical and/or spelling errors hurt your website.  Also, take a look at how these types of errors make one look less credible and subject to less trust.  There are THOUSANDS of articles all over the Internet and elsewhere!

I am not a perfect person in any way and definitely do make mistakes.  However, I do not condone laziness and sloppy work as an excuse for not knowing the English language.

      1. profile image0
rednckwmnposted 14 years agoin reply to this

etc  =  etc. It is an abbreviation.
why are you so worked up about it?
How many languages do you know?

        1. profile image0
HubTubposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Yes, I agree with you, etc is an abbreviation, but you unfortunately spelled it incorrectly.  It is not spelled ECT!

          1. profile image0
rednckwmnposted 14 years agoin reply to this

No, I did not. I know it is not "ect." As an abbreviaton, it needs a period at the end. If you are going to point a finger, and say someone made a mistke, you should make sure your correction, is correct. The original question, was not..."please pick on my grammar". It was for help with an RSS feed.
If you are so big on rules, you should read the rules for forums.
I can see a large grey box, right over there, to my left. It states..  "Please use the Forums in the spirit of community!"
Most of us, here at Hub Pages, feel this is a friendly, helpful, community. I know, I have made plenty of mistakes, and greatly appreciate NOT having people jump down my throat. I am not picking a fight with you, I am out of here after this, but perhaps you would benefit from a slight attitude adjustment.

It is a forum post - why don't you give it up? Like most people, I do not waste time spellchecking and proof-reading forum posts. In fact, I judge somebody by what they are saying rather than by whether their capitalisation or punctuation is correct.

I teach Greeks who might not understand or write 'perfect' English. However, they manage to convey their meaning perfectly well. Your views are now bordering on the offensive - not everybody can write perfect English, but I respect any ESL speaker who tries.

Emie - Maybe you are right. HubTub - if you want advice on how to raise your Hubscore, you may find that we are surprisingly helpful smile

world of the wise on HubPages

I am an Economics grad, every thing good makes me good. I have so far published 2 book and i am anything to anyone who is somebody to me. I have just set up a site <snipped> which i believe will be big big big soon.

    My other sites include
    <snipped>

I will be glad when you visit me

Sorry, but the above sites all look like AdSense In A Box.

Furthermore, I sincerely find it hard to believe, after perusing the aforementioned hubber's hubs and comparing them to the written bio from this same hubber, that these hubs were actually written by this hubber.

This is obviously nothing short of pure PLAGIARISM.

Interestingly enough, I just ran a couple of his hubs through my plagiarism detector and found no duplicates.

Making an unfounded accusation of plagiarism is extremely offensive - I suggest that you find some proof before you start throwing that accusation around. Maybe he is more careful with his writing on his Hubs than the forum. Perhaps he has an editor or employs a ghostwriter (both perfectly acceptable to Hubpages).

What he does in his own private blogs is his own business, and nothing to do with Hubpages - as long as he does not overpromote(and I see no evidence of that).

I have no idea what this particular hubber has done to deserve such vitriol. You are making extremely serious insinuations against a fellow Hubber and you have made this into a personal attack against his integrity.

Try reading Theresa McGurk's Hubs - there is a Hubber who can legitimately claim to use perfect English. She has far too much class to spend her time upon pedantic and spiteful attacks.

i don't pay attention to my grammar in my forum posts in the same way that i do when i write hubs. it's a more relaxed medium and it moves fast so who wants to do all this self-editing?

frankly i am insuted by your treatment of this hubber. so you're a medical transcriptionist - i don't think that qualifies you as the end-all-and-be-all expert on English grammar. you come across as really smug. i could be wrong, but i don't think that is the way to get people to read your hubs.

Call me anything you wish.  At least I can sleep at night knowing how to spell, write, and convey my feelings in writing with an excellent command of the English language.  As mentioned earlier, I have in no way claimed to be absolutely perfect.  I don't really care what anybody thinks of me on this forum, by the way.  I make a very nice living proofreading and editing manuscripts.  I really don't need any help from HubPages to further my income.  That is why I stated earlier, I could care less about my hub score.  It is simply just a number which reflects no bearing on my wonderful income that I currently make elsewhere on the Internet.

I wish you all the best in your writing.  Someday, however, your grammatical and spelling errors will indeed come back to haunt you.

I came to HubPages to write my own articles and thoroughly enjoy reading the well-written articles of many other wonderful hubbers here on HubPages.  I simply take offense at people claiming to write hubs (such is the case of World of the Wise), when it is quite evident that World of the Wise could not possibly have written those hubs independently, based on the poor English grammar that World of the Wise initially used in the post that began this lengthy forum topic.

I was under the impression that HubPages was intended for people to write their own hub articles, and not to have ghostwriters assisting in writing their hubs.

Feel free to say anything you wish about me.  I am totally open to constructive criticism and am not in the least bit bothered by any comments any of the hubbers here in the forum have said or will say about me in the future.

hmm Sorry to jump in off of the original topic, but....

I gave that article checker a try and it doesn't seem very useful. One of my Hubs (100% original) got the following results:

    Total Matched Phrases / Total Submitted         2% (1/43)    84% (36/43)

My Hub has not been indexed on Google, but it is on Yahoo, therefore the high percentage result. I tried searching just the text first and then by entering the URL. IMO, it would be more effective if it could recognize your URL and not compare to it when searching.

    smile

  41. Sufidreamer profile image79
    Sufidreamerposted 14 years ago

Exactly - that particular checker is designed for those wishing to check that they have not purchased articles that are copy and paste jobs.

Even without that, it is not proof of plagiarism - if you check my first few Hubpage articles, you will probably find 100%. They were already on ezine before I stumbled across this site - whilst HP penalizes duplicate content slightly, it is not against the TOS.......I really should find the time to rewrite those, one day. They are, however, my own work.

Finally, what is plagiarism? Unless somebody copy and pastes an article word for word, it is virtually impossible to prove. If somebody steals one of my articles, I will pursue them. If they spin it sufficiently, there is little that I can do and, to be honest, would not bother anyway.

Again, HubTub - you have questioned the integrity of a writer with no justification. You long since crossed the line mad

            i use copyscape.

i did a search on my own hubs, out of curiosity. for my latest hub, it flagged all of the text from some google ads for men's shirts.

for another hub, it flagged a whole string of text word for word - written by cosette on hubpages

for another hub, same thing, it flagged all the google ads for cereal.

in another one, it flagged similar text - the text is:
            HubPages
            HubPages
            sign in
            start a new hub

            Answers
            Hubbers
            Forums
            Hubtivity

i use copyscape sometimes to see if anything i write is stolen from me. i find it kind of strange that she uses these tools to check on someone else. she must really have it in for this guy.

As a medical transcriptionist, one must have an excellent command of the English language.  Not only am I qualified to transcribe as a transcriptionist, I am also qualified to edit  and proofread.  I hope this answers your question.

then you know very little about what it really means to be a professional editor and writer.

i am not one to lord my profession over anyone or tell them how to write or conduct themselves. i could say a lot more about the differences between a medical transcriptionist's credentials vs. those of a professional writer and editor but you don't really want to go there, do you?

so why don't you just lay off of world - he's not hurting you is he?

"well-educated" is not a compound word and shouldn't be hyphenated. "well" is an adverb modifying the adjective "tempered".

I don't see why hub pages give him all this credit and iam not a jealous person just super honest.  Does hub pages have a system to check copy writers.  Some people write for pleasing their soul and get paid some people write just to get money and will stop at nothing. i have friends for whom English is a second language, but they are very well educated (more than I) and extremely bright and accomplished but because English is their second language, sometimes their writing or even their speaking is a little off. an ignorant person (one who doesn't know them from Adam) would just look at their writing or listen to their foreign accent and grammatical mistakes and assume they were an uneducated dimwit.

that is what people are having a problem with.

                  And, so, the first question?

If you are referring to "furthermore" and "atrocities" then the answer is yes.  I kept all my students in check.

What's your problem with the use of "furthermore" and "atrocities" in my posts?  Are they too big for your vocabulary?

Your students loved you?  I find that very hard to believe, given your comments and attitude on this thread. It's clear you are fighting a losing battle - read everyone's comments towards you.

Admit you were wrong and apologise to World of the Wise for your rude response or drop him an email.

Ps. You had 12 fans yesterday morning, I see the number is beginning to drop.  I wonder why?

Enjoy the weekend and if you do go shopping, resist the urge to correct any Customer Service Assistants' Spoken English, when they attend to you.

              Regards, Elena.

    Did someone say cake?

3 weeks is ridiculous, Lita.  It always seems to be the items I most look forward to are the ones that take the longest.  Hang in there...  Must be a nice camera!  Are you into photography?

Yes!  And I came into a little money so I bought a new camera.  Been waiting and waiting.

It is actually UPS that screwed up, but since they returned it to the store, I called them.

And those Russian layered cakes are something else, it is true! smile

Very frustrating, I feel for you.  Hopefully the store will cooperate and expedite the shipping.  I love photography, tinker around with it.  Took a class to advance my knowledge and discovered how much there is to learn.  Love black and white, in particular.

I all about cake, Lita.  Tonight was ice cream night here since 2 out of 3 of my kiddies have hideous sore throats.  I expect to have a very "awake" night.  lol

I expect it to be a short, short night.  I have to work very early...but at least I'll get to take photos of the event. smile

Yeah, I like bl & wh, too, especially.

Have a great day tomorrow.  Sorry you have to work on a Saturday.  I'll be up for an early soccer game.  HP has been screwing with my sleep schedule.  Alas, I will shut off the computer at a reasonable hour.  Especially since I've vowed to stay out of the more "controversial" forums.

Sigh. I know from a good source (who will remain anonymous), that some hubbers on Hubpages pay others to write articles for them.  Some very well known hubbers employ this tactic, too, wink.

    So, moot point.

And nowhere does it say within the rules that duplicate content is not allowed.

However, I'm almost sure that mostly everyone knows that here, too, wink.

      really?

do they make good money doing it?

Depends on the Hubber, I think.

Clue*  One is posting on this thread, wink!

But I think if you e-mail Sufi (he's not the one I'm talking about...he's more the writer) he can clue you in.
