Is someone going to join the debate on this issue ?

Barry, it looks like after the peoples votes are tallied, the top 10 of those will be delivered to the judges. Else, it would be the most voted up hub, which is kind of tough, if their are 500 hubs for every hubber to vote on. Plus, given if one hubber has a huge fan club that votes specifically for them it would -in essence- be unfair to the other quality hubs written. -James

During the whole week, we are reading ALL of the entries. We are winnowing down the pool of ALL entries to 10 and 5 finalists (a bigger group, and a smaller group, of hand-picked finalists, respectively).

The 10 finalists will appear for voting on Tuesday-Thursday, and the 5 will be sent to our judges for voting. On Thursday around noon, we will know who the community chose as its favorite (People's Choice) and the judges' pick (Best Hub). Both of these winners will win $100. smile

I think you have missed my point no you are asking hubbers to seelcted one from one of your 10 selected radomely chosed hubs which probably will not be the best hubs right ?

At the momet what it appears we are going to be doing is asked to selecte one of the top ten hubs randomly selected if we then hubbers select one of the two of those ten I mean HUbmobs using works on quality and not purely on ramdomly selected hubs chosen by chance,  I mean why tyhe hell would you have four distinguished Food Critics on a pamel chooing from 10 randomly selecte hubs it gives them nothingh to do really !

What I am saying is this.

      1. I assume your going to ask hubbers for their 'Hubbers Choice' from just ten radomly selected hubs  Correct ?

You're still under the misconception, after several posts, that the People's Choice candidates are randomly chosen. That is why I asked you to reread my previous post clarifying that they are not.

The ten they choose for us to choose from, are not randomly chosen.  (For the people's choice award.)They are chosen for nomination, from what I understand.  I don't know how they are chosen, what criteria, etc.

Still going although I'm not sure what day it is anymore.  I did hubs ahead and think I have posted a total of 42 - now just have to try and get my blonde bubblehead to post them to the right category on the right day. I have enough to post through next Monday or Tuesday so there may be light at the end of the tunnel although then the second tunnel's coming up.  I'm with Holle (habee) though - doing 5-a-day is a lot like boot camp or something! I've had to scale back to 2 and maybe an occasional 3 - it's either that try and keep my real job when I'm typing on stumps! Go hubbalicious!

The first week is complete, and we've closed out Cooking Ingredients as the week-long classification for entries.

In total we had 648 entries - not bad, over 7 days of Hubbing!

And, to close out the week, it's my pleasure to announce the Daily Drawing winner. We had 64 Hubs submitted, and with the 3 bonus entries won by oceansnsunsets, we had 67 entries in the drawing.

      The winner?
      classicalgeek!
      Here's the winning entry:
      http://hubpages.com/hub/Walnut-Oil

      Congratulations, classicalgeek.

Week 2 has now begun, and the classification for the 7 days' topics is Cooking Techniques. The focus should not be on the ingredients themselves, or recipes, but rather different ways these foods can be prepared, techniques such as baking, frying, steaming, boiling, blanching, salting, smoking, etc. For each day's topic, there are countless ways you can prepare the specified food: go deep and explain the pros and cons, and steps involved, in each!

      Keep on Hubbin' on!

I have a question for Jason or anyone who can answer it. For this week cooking techniques for Saturday June 12 for vegetables we can only write about techniques for cold preparation of vegetables not hot or warm. Is that right? Please let me know.

      1. Jason Menayan profile image61
Jason Menayanposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Yes, I'm afraid that's the case, since what you write must be a correct fit for the category. Of course, though, you can write about starches, potatoes and rice (also an eligible category for that day) and those techniques can be hot/warm. smile

      Hi everyone,

It was a relatively quiet start to the 2nd week of the contest, with 30 Hub entries on cooking techniques for beans & grains. Along with E. A. Wright's 3 bonus entries for guessing yesterday's Daily Puzzle correctly, we had 33 entries going into the Daily Drawing.

      The winner?
      Angela Harris!
      Here's her winning Hub entry:
      http://hubpages.com/hub/How-Long-to-Coo … -Varieties

      Congratulations, Angela.

Her Hub was not the first chosen randomly. However, that first pick had a lot of copied content. Fortunately, we have pretty reliable techniques to test a Hub for copied content, so Angela's entry is the winner.

Moral of this story? Write your own stuff! smile

Today's topic, begun about 50 minutes ago, is on techniques for liquids: soups, sauces and stocks. (How alliterative!) I look forward to seeing what you guys publish over the next 23 hours and 10 minutes, or so!

        Am I missing something?

There is a difference between a daily randomly drawn winner and the weekly finalists.

Did I miss the bit where it was admitted that a staff picked peoples choice hub had plagiarized content?

        1. Jason Menayan profile image61
Jason Menayanposted 13 years agoin reply to this

No. From what I can gather, he's saying that one of the People's Choice finalists plagiarized content on another Hub (not the finalist Hub) and that she hasn't been on the site long enough. Or something to that effect.

We are not concerned (at least with respect to the contest) with how long someone has been Hubbing or what they do with their other Hubs, but we do scrutinize entries that are eligible to win something. If those Hubs don't pass the bar, they are not eligible.

Yeah, these contests can be killer. I remember one way back when in which I attempted to write 10 hubs a day. Needless to say, most days I didn't quite make it.

You might sense a little deja vu...

          Here's his winning Hub:

          Congratulations, James.

About 45 minutes ago, we started a new contest day with cooking methods/techniques for barbecuing and grilling. (Again, please focus on methods and techniques, not recipes, for this week of the contest)

It's comments like this that I feel are uncalled for.

Thank you very much HubPages staff and thanks to the judges!

Suffice it to say I was offended by many of the unwarranted comments and accusations made in this thread previously, that's why I'm only now responding.  I noticed many of them are now deleted, which I appreciate.

However, as a result, I'm disheartened, as I'm sure any number of you would be as well in my shoes.  It certainly doesn't create a warm and supportive atmosphere.  As such, it has affected the way I feel about continuing to publish here.  I hope people will consider this in the future.

I do want to thank those of you who extended your support here.  And thanks to everyone who took the time to read and comment on my hub.

I just want to say that you should not be off-set by those comments that made you feel unwelcomed here.  I admit, I did not see them because I haven't visited this forum thread in several days, but I recall the last contest.

There were a lot of hubbers who were critical of "newbie", especially if they won - I guess it's just an inherent "seniority thing".  It got a little crazy last time which, unfortunately, is why I'm not really participating in this one this go round (except the one hub that I published today).  I was one of the ones that felt that certain aspects of the judging and selections were not very fair.

That being said...you should consider staying.  HP is a great place to write and the majority of the hubbers here are fantastic people who will help you in any way they can and if they can't, they'll point you in the right direction.  This is the first and only sight like this that I have ever been a part of and I'm loving it here, despite the few "bad eggs".  So I hope that you consider this when making up your mind whether to stay or go.  Whichever you choose, best of luck to you!

It's a shame that sometimes negative behavior creeps up in an otherwise positive contest like this one, but it happens. Suffice it to say, we stand by our finalist choices 100% (although clearly quality Hubs were not limited to just them), and while we continue to refine our process each time we run the contest and are open to (respectful) feedback, we also understand it is impossible to please everyone and that's not our goal.

As I've said every time we've had a contest (and I've been running them here on HubPages since November 2006!), the real winners are all those who participated, since great quality content will garner visitors and hopefully provide a nice revenue stream for you for years after the contest closes.

            Happy Friday!

The contest day on the cooking techniques related to barbecuing and grilling has closed, and we had 45 entries. Add mrpopo's 3 bonus entries for correctly guessing the Daily Puzzle from yesterday, and we had 48 entries for the drawing today.

            The winner?
            Deja vu again...
            Kathryn Vercillo!
Kathryn has won for a 2nd time with the following Hub:
            http://hubpages.com/hub/Choosing-the-Ri … ric-Grills

            Congratulations, Kathryn.

About an hour and a half ago, we started the contest day on cooking techniques on all things meat: beef, lamb, pork, poultry and fish. You have about 22 1/2 hours to get your Hubs in!

I haven't been able to check out the forums in a few days, so I'm not sure how mean the comments were, but Paige, please don't leave Hubpages. It's a great place full of very helpful people. I don't know why the internet seems to bring out the worst in some, but there's always a few....

And I  read your hub. I can definitely see how it won! Just ignore the haters. They will always find something to complain about, anyway.

Day 12's contest period - on cooking methods/techniques for starches, potatoes, and rice, and the cold preparation of fruits and vegetables - is behind us, and we had 33 Hub entries, relatively few but at very first glance really awesome ones. With the 3 bonus entries won by Twenty One Days for guessing sous-vide correctly yesterday, there were 36 entries for today's Daily Drawing.

            The winner?
For a third time this month...
