Will I ever get an Adsense payout?

I have been here at HP for more than 3 years, and although I use the HP ad program mostly, I also use Adsense.  I earn regularly with HP, but I must say that the Adsense program is the slowest paying one I have ever seen.  I have yet to earn the $100 payout!  I think if I live to 103 I still will not see one dime from it.  Ridiculous!

I don't expect to earn anything from Adsense on HubPages.  With only one direct Adsense ad on each Hub - and that right at the end - it's not realistic to expect many, if any, clicks.

Before the HP Ads Program was introduced, Adsense was a real source of income on HP.  However if you're using HP Ads, Adsense is almost irrelevant - it's just a prerequisite to be able to use the HP Earnings Program.

As other have said, start your own blog or website, ideally in the same niche as you are now.  You can have up to three Adsense units per page, I have found that I make more from my blog than HP, Adsense wise.

Did that very thing awhile back.  It was a huge amount of work, even with help from Marisa Wright, I had good views, monetized with Adsense among others, and didn't make one cent..  Perhaps I should have just kept the site, but it really was more work than I wanted to do.  I don't need the income from writing and don't do it for a living like some here.  I just think it is weird that they would pay so little.  I am within site of my first payout, but I doubt I'll ever get there.

I have about $80 in the adsense account.  At current earnings, it will take around 6 years to make payout.  (I've considered disabling HPads for a few days, just to reach payout, and then re-enable it)

I do not even know that HP ad programme and Adsense are two different entities. Do you mean, there are two types of earning statistics here? I see only one earnings figure here since beginning and it shows $5.50 in my account since beginning till now. I do not see any other figures.

Yes, there are two earnings programs, but you are forced to keep Adsense if you want to earn at all.  However, you can choose to make the HP ad program your main earnings source and just maintain the Adsense program because you have no choice.  The learning center can explain all of this.

If you really want to earn, though, you need to place a few (very few and very well placed) ads on hubs that make it possible to do so...in other words, are on topics that indicate that ads will improve the reader experience.

These work for some people, but not for others...but the secret is the topic and how you place the ads.

              Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice. I must look into it. Presently, I never chose ads on my own. They are placed by them automatically at Hubpages or on my other own blogs. I do not know how to choose the ads.

I've never chosen them myself, either, so you probably already are on the HP ad program.  If you search the learning center, somewhere in there is an explanation for all of this.  Or, if you get lucky, someone on this forum may be able to explain it to you better than I could.

As Wilderness says, if it's really bugging you that much, disable the HP Ads program.  Then you'll get Adsense ads instead of HP Ads on your Hubs, and the money will build up faster.

However, personally I think you'll be shooting yourself in the foot, because you're likely to make less per month on Adsense than you can on HP Ads.

Like I said, just try to forget about the idea of Adsense being a source of income.  It isn't nowadays - it's just a prerequisite for being part of the HP Earnings Program.

When I answered a lot of questions on Webanswers, I think it took about 6 months to receive an Adsense payout. Since I have more or less given up contributing on that site, I only make a few dollars a month from clicks on Webanswers and even less on HubPages, even though traffic here gives me a payout most months on the HP AD program. Remember also once you join this program,  "HP ads" replace most of the Adsense ones, and only one Adsense ad remains at the bottom of your hub. A percentage of people probably don't even bother reading that far.  See link

      http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/hubp … am-and-ads

I haven't made much from Adsense on my two blogs either.

Although I have Adsense enabled on HP, so far I haven't seen much, if any, action on it.
On my own sites, I've actually made payout a couple of times, much to my surprise, as I'm really not very active on them.
Have to say, though, that earnings are well down in the past year.
Hope you are earning with HP, as Adsense is very slow.

You could try using adsense in different ways to boost the income, like youtube or a blog.

I've been on HP for four years now and I stopped checking my AdSense numbers regularly quite a while ago...because glaciers move faster than they do.

If I ever do hit the magic payout amount I'll be pleasantly surprised and accept it as a gift from a gracious nowhere.

With AdSense you need to earn $100 to get paid but it doesn't have to all come from HP. You can use AdSense on a blog if you have one. If you don't you can try WebAnswers, which is a q&a site. I am on there and joining actually helped me get to the $100.

There aren't enough hours in the day for me to add any of that to my plate and still have any kind of life outside of the Internet... Shoot, I have enough trouble sometimes just finding time to post new Hubs around here, never mind starting something new from scratch... haha.

I'll be honest, I stopped giving a @#$% about AdSense quite a while ago.  I have no illusions that I'm destined to become an Internet billionaire with the nonsense I write around here. This site is a hobby/distraction for me, and as long as it continues to provide me with some occasional beer money via the HP Ads program, I'm fine with staying at that level. AdSense can take as long as it wants, I'm not going anywhere.

But if you choose to do only one thing on the internet, one of those other things is probably going to be more profitable rather than just laboring on with Hubpages.

(shrugs) If my motive were strictly profit, I would've moved on a long time ago.

I like HP cuz I enjoy the community and it's an easy platform to work with/on. Considering that four years ago my "writing career" consisted of contributing unpaid articles to a music e-zine that nobody read, HP was a big step up for me! big_smile

If they send me an e-mail someday telling me "We're closing down, get the @#$% out," then I guess I'll gather up my stuff and hit the road, otherwise, I got no complaints.

I have it on my own sites and blogs and make several times the payout every month.  If you are using it only on HP you will be in for a very long wait.  I get maybe pennies a month from here on there. The bulk of my payout each month here is from the HP ad program and Amazon.

If you develop a niche blog in a topic not overly saturated and with a good market, you could do very well in time. My hubs link to related sites of mine and vice versa.   It all takes time.  My oldest website is the one that generates the largest part of my Adsense income every month and it's been around since 2000. My second largest (earning) niche website though is only 3 years old and makes around payout level each month though, so it can be done.  I started that site based on a hub of mine that got decent traffic.  It is actually a fairly small site, 50 pages or so, but the content is all original so it ranks pretty well for some terms.

I know it can be frustrating to wait, but if HP is all you you're doing to make AdSense money, I fear your wait may be quite long.

It is, but it's a lot of time and hard work.  My next quest now is teaching myself responsive web design so I can bring my old sites into a modern era.  Always something... but yes, payout each month and more is entirely possible.  A headache a lot of the time, but possible smile.

Christin, if you learn how to use Wordpress instead, you won't have to learn how to do responsive web design - you simply choose a theme that is responsive and it's done for you.

True, but I really don't dig WordPress.  I'm a web designer by trade, and I need to update my skills and learn the "nuts and bolts" of responsive coding smile It's time, I've been putting it off for a long time.  I have used wordpress for clients and I just don't really like using it.  In the past, I've always enjoyed hand coding a site from scratch.  Not so much anymore, but I'm getting there lol smile

Christin, I am glad that Adsense is working well for you. I have some friends that have been doing well with it, and they say it has been a lot of work. But, it is work that pays off for them too.  - Cheers!

I don't think you can safely draw that conclusion!    Christin's blog has the advantage that it was started years ago, when it was much easier to get noticed, attract lots of genuine backlinks and build a good reputation.  Even then, as she says, she had to work very hard to build the site up to where it is today.   Now,with so many thousands more sites out there, and Google making it hard for small players, you'd find it ten times more difficult to achieve the same thing.

I estimate it will take me a year for the next payment.  I am 1/3 of the way.

Okay, wishful thinking on my part. Fortunately, I'm not just looking to Adsense for monetization.

I have noticed those who make money, generally, started many years ago when it was still possible to do so.

Making the payout limit while HP Ad Program is enabled might seem an impossible task. Because while the HP Ad Program is activated, you've probably Six Ads on your Hub Page and of those, only the one at the bottom of the page is an AdSense Ad. The rest are HP Ads.
I have had HP Ad Program activated but made Cents only per day with it. And no AdSense earnings were made while HP Ads were active. Therefore I tried disabling the HP Ads Program, but yet no considerable earnings through AdSense, probably because I have not many hubs here.
But a personal blog or a website is surely a better option, because I have them too and I make much better (95% more) earnings from my blog compared to Hubpages.

So, now I learn that the sixth ad on my hubpages is from Google Adsense. That is why I wonder, when only 5 ads are the practice of HubPages, how does the sixth one appear here on most of the hubs?

When you split the programs, Adsense gets the worst spot at the bottom of the page. Few people ever get there. Hence, few clicks and little revenue. The HP program is only most beneficial when you can't qualify for Adsense. If you can qualify, you'll make more if you switch away from the HP program and get your Adsense ads placed higher. Personal experience.

    1. TIMETRAVELER2 profile image86
TIMETRAVELER2posted 8 years agoin reply to this

I wouldn't want to do that because I am happy with what I am making with the HP program and don't want to mess that up.  I had Adsense on my blog and earned nothing, so I am very leery of using them as my main source of writing income now.  However, they  could sure do a better job of paying...no matter where their ads are located.  After three years to have earned nothing "payable" from them sucks!  At the very least, they should lower their threshold.  $100 is pretty steep I think.

It is always better to start with Google blogger sites. They are very simple and freely available. You can create 5 or 6 within one single site. I have 5 blogs with same account.

YES you will. The good thing about sites like HP is they slowly accumulate in your favor.
