Since 2012 is around the corner and you may very well be considering personal New Year’s resolutions, I have decided to make this week’s topic all about achieving goals. Share your advice on how to set practical goals and stick to them!

Instead of giving you potential keywords to work with, I’m going to suggest a handful of keyword-researched titles and challenge you to create Hubs using them:

5 Tips on Setting Smart Goals
    Three Effective Goal Setting Methods
How to Set Strong Goals and Objectives
How to Set Great Personal Goals
10 Great Personal Goals to Set This Year
    Tips on Smart Goal Setting
How to Achieve Goals the Fun Way!
10 Professional Goals to Boost Your Career
5 Professional Goals You Should Set This Year
A Simple, Easy Goal Setting Template
    10 Awesome Personal Goal Examples
Fun Goal Setting Activities for Families
Fun Goal Setting Activities for Couples
Fun Goal Setting Activities for Kids
    50 Great Examples of Goals
How to Set Goals You Will Actually Achieve
    Inspiring Goals and Objectives Examples

Perhaps they’ll give you some inspiration!

Check out the comments in this thread to see if a title you’re interested in has already been used. Of course, you’re welcome to use any title of your own construction as well.

If you'd like to join in on this week's topic by writing a Hub, follow these steps:

    1)    Click here to visit this week's topic.
    2)    Click the green button "answer this question".
    3)    Click the gray button below the box (leave that empty) that says "make a Hub about it."
    4)    Give your Hub a very specific title, like Easy Summer Gardening Projects for Kids or Challenging Summer Activities for Teens
    5)    Create good quality original content that hasn't been covered before.
    6)    After you publish your Weekly Topic Inspiration Hub, come back to this forum thread and post a link to your Hub with a brief description of what you wrote about and why.

For more information on the Weekly Topic Inspiration program, check out the Learning Center guide.

I look forward to reading your advice!

I wanted to mention something about number one above:  5 Tips on Setting Smart Goals...  Just as an FYI to everyone, "smart" is actually an acronym.  It's a system of goal development often used in business.  This mnemonic device stands for:

      Specific
      Measurable
      Attainable
      Relevant
      Timely

So, when people are looking for "smart" goals, they are probably looking for the above.

I like this post. New Year Goals, or Goals Anytime really do work. I found last year's squashed between my old hairbrush and an empty toiletries bag, and discovered, to my surprise that I had achieved them all. I remember when I wrote them making them SMART, but at the same time thinking, will I really do this?
      Awesome!

I don't believe in making New Year's resolutions.  I consider those temporary.  I set my own goals and pace myself.  Once I achieve those goals, I set other goals and go after them.  I can't possibly lose.

It deals with eliminating the stress of annual resolutions by essentially abandoning the practice, with a discussion of alternate options.

DzyMsLizzy, I not that you are at a score of 95, a mark that I have never reached before. That, in it's self would be an achievement for me. I like your position of not setting a New Year's resolution. We still have our goals however. I need to write more. A lots more, just to reach my full potential of teaching and healing others (more) through my writing. However, I need to do more with the huppages experience that just write more. I am still learning how to maximize my hubpages experience. I may need more help in this regard, from others. Happy New Year. Dr. Haddox

Generally, my hubs stick with or close to matters concerning faith, spirituality, and interfaith relations, but this week's topic instantly made me think of exercise. It's that one resolution (for New Year's or otherwise) that always seems to backfire. As exercise is important for our mental, emotional, and spiritual health just as much as our physical health, I went with it. smile

Thanks! Couldn't help but mention Tai Chi. I know some who say they don't like it, but I find it depends on who the instructor is. With some, you easily get the hang of the movements and can really feel the energy moving. With other instructors, you put too much concentration into the movements and the energy just doesn't seem to flow right. Part of finding the right workout is finding the right instructor. wink

This is the first time I have used an inspiration topic. I chose to zoom in on the topic of goal setting for perfectionists. I tend to be a perfectionist, or so I have been told, and I can really see in the last few months how those tendencies are actually affecting my productivity at HubPages in a negative way sad.

So I wrote a hub with tips for goal setting for perfectionists so I could learn and challenge myself.

    http://ktrapp.hubpages.com/hub/goal-set … ectionists

Each month I plan on adding my next month's goals to the bottom of this hub and reflecting on my hits and misses from the previous month.

Wish me luck. This is a little out of the box for me smile

I feel passionately about writing, do the best I can, want the best I can, love storytelling - but hey! I so often fall short of my mark.
    Doesn't matter.
Not this time. Not this coming year.
My hub is about going forward anyway, believing in my personal promise and challenge, no matter what.
This time - straight  to the writer's winning post!

Wish everyone a good writing 2012 - and Peace of Mind.

    http://eyesstraightahead.hubpages.com/h … -This-Year

I posted a hub responding to this topic. I provided insight on how to set goals using the SMART method as well as provided 10 possible goals each for the four areas of life we all should nourish regularly: Physical, Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual. I suggest everyone have one or two goals in each area they work on throughout the year.

That was a great idea for the Weekly Topic Inspiration and got lots of responses. In my *New Year resolution or revolution?* I did not come to a conclusion about choosing a resolution to make, but perhaps it should have been, "Don't bite more than you can swallow"!

It's a new year and I'm still very happy, so before the hardships of work get to me I figured I would write a more lighthearted look at achievable goals for the new year. After all, everyone else has written such excellent advice, hints, tips and useful information on how to set goals for ourselves that I couldn't really think of anything else to write. So my hub may not be useful, but its my first attempt at writing anything amusing, so if I make one person laugh just once I'll have achieved something new this year! I'd really appreciate any advice anyone has about this style of writing too. Thank you!

Absolutely, and besides the health issues with steroids I hear they put hairs on your chest as well. Even I'm avoiding that.

I think this is a great idea for both readers and wrtiers. I know in the past I've set numerous New Year's resolutions and have never followed through with them. Now, when you mention it, I would love to read someone's tips. Weight loss possibly? Staying away from soda and caffiene? Or my big one, becoming more financially responsible.
