LAUGHTER YOGA ?????

You have heard of Yoga as a form of exercise that originates from India, and you know how to laugh when provoked. Now, what in the world is Laughter Yoga ? It is a simple exercise routine designed to benefit you, decreasing your stress levels until you are totally stress-free and helps boost your immune system. Now, isn't that wonderful ? You get to laugh with fellow members at a Laughter Club where membership is totally free, and there are 6000 such Laughter clubs presently functional in about 60 countries. Yes, it has caught on as a worldwide movement, since the first Laughter Club launched at a Mumbai Park by an eminent physician, Dr. Madan Kataria on 13 March, 1995, with only a few members.

Did you know that it is an established scientific fact that the human body cannot differentiate between fake laughter and the real laughter? And that laughter has its health benefits on the human body? Both psychological and physiological benefits! Well, based on these, the innovative concept of Laughter Yoga was conceived by Dr. Kataria. Unconditional Laughter coupled with Yogic Breathing (Pranayama), constitutes Laughter Yoga.

A visit to any of the 200 odd Laughter Clubs being conducted in the early mornings at Bangalore city's neighborhood parks yields the same result. Happy-go-lucky members enjoying Laughter-various kinds including cell phone laughter, roaring lion laughter, argument laughter, etc. All members look forward to their meetings with fervor and participate with enthusiasm. A leader usually guides the entire group through their paces lasting an hour. Well, you cannot just laugh-for no reason! So, they fake it for the first few minutes and then continue on a giant roll! They do not use jokes, comedy or humor to help initiate laughter. Within the group, laughter is simulated as a form of body exercise. With childlike playfulness and plenty of eye contact, the laughter soon engulfs the entire group, and turns quickly into contagious real laughter. Some with tears rolling down their cheeks with uncontrollable laughter.
