Vampire Mine - Book Review Kerrelyn Sparks

Updated on April 21, 2012

'Love at Stake' Book

It's been a while since I have read any of Kerrelyn Sparks' books, and to tell you the truth, it's been a while since I've picked up a book. So the introduction to reading books again came to a great surprise when I opened 'Vampire Mine' by Kerrelyn Sparks.

Towards the end of the series, as I had been reading before, I was getting bored, but after several months in-between, it was refreshing to pick up this particular vampire novel.

Connor Buchanan reminded me so much of myself that it was unreal.Connor is the pessimist that just doesn't believe in love. But, at the same time, he's a gentleman at heart, so when Marielle pops into his life, there's an instant change.

Marielle is the damsel in distress that Connor must save, but what he isn't aware of is that Marielle is an angel of death stripped of her wings because of her deviance against the rules- something that Connor is well aware of himself.

Sparks brought my interest back into the want to reread her novels, but it could just be that I haven't read in a while. Given some time, and repetition of how her plots play out, it's a matter of time before she gets boring again.

I'm sad to say that, as I thoroughly enjoyed this piece.

Like in many love stories, Connor fights his love for Marielle, as he wants her to regain her place in Heaven among her angel friends. And, at the same time, she fights her growing love for him.

Connor must help Marielle learn how to be a human for the time that she is on Earth, so he sends Vanda, her sister (Marta), and sister-in-law (Brynley) to help teach the angel how to be a lady. But, with Vanda in the picture, there's no telling what Marielle will pick up. The first night's lesson included learning of a certain oral sexual favor and Brynley's theory of the Three Step Rule.

On top of Connor's internal conflict, Casimer is still a concern of the Vamps, but with Marielle's help, they are able to find him. Read the book to find out whether or not the Vamps are able to kill Casimer this time.

Also, read and find out what Sean Whelan gets in return for his aid to the Vamps. It's hard to believe that the one thing that he hates, he just may become. And, find out how exactly the Vamps find out the Marielle is an angel of death; more than one main character is turned into a vampire in this one.

Sparks definitely throws humor into this storyline, more than I can remember with her other books. I can attest that I snickered throughout the storyline.

After reading the entire book in one night, I don't doubt that I'll reread this vampire love story again.

And, if I have to take a guess, there will be another book published with the Love Doctor (Phineas) and Brynley, as there seemed to be a little flirtation between the two.
