What are your plans this coming Holy week, are you celebrating it?

For most Catholics and some Christian denomination the Holy Week is a big celebration.

Thank you for your honesty, but don't forget why Easter is honored, ok? May God Bless you and keep you safe.

Yes, I do remember that Easter is honouring the north European fertility Goddess, Eostre.

We started with Palm Sunday services today.  Reflecting upon the reason for the season.  We will have a couple of special meals containing lamb and also send out some Easter baskets to the grandkids.  We are volunteering to help our church put together baskets for those in need and visitors to the church.  Baking 10,000 cookies (not all by ourselves though).  Will end the week with Easter Service celebration.

Remembering the Germanic fertility goddess, Eostre, then, I wasn't aware that the celebrations started a week before Easter Sunday.

Good for you! I like what you said here : "Reflecting on the reason for the season." Too many don't do that, but what else is there? Thank you.

Since there is no class on Friday, I intend to begin planning on that day. However, this weekend has something to do with family on Sunday, relaxation on Saturday, and actually enjoying the holiday on Friday. Possibly coloring eggs, definately eating those glorious chocolately goodness eggs smile Maybe an Easter film or episode of a show.

If you haven't seen The Robe, try it. It is a wonderful film and a better book. Thanks for your comment, and enjoy God's blessings.

Each year, I am aware of the Passion. This year, my new intention is to perform the entire 12-hour prayer vigil, staying awake in meditation and prayer all through Thursday night until dawn. The vigil was announced today at Palm Sunday services, and I felt the call . . .

Pray for me! I've been ill for many years, and it has been a long time since I've been able to do an all-night vigil.

I am Catholic, but I don't consider Holy week a time of celebration at least not until Easter Sunday, which marks Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead. I attend mass on holy Thursday and church services on good Friday. I don't believe in partying on good Friday since it's the day of Jesus' crucifixion of the cross. It's also a day of abstinence and fasting so instead of eating meat, just eat fish.

Thank you! So few people these days know the difference between commemoration and celebration.

Yes, a commemoration of an execution; however, in Europe the old event is one of a fertility celebration, and is probably why it is seen as a celebration.

Thank you for your comment. I love that you placed emphasis on the Resurrection; that is what we should celebrate! He lives for us and our salvation. We should do the same for Him.

Yes. On Easter Sunday we will go to the beach for the sunrise service. It is awesome to celebrate as the sun comes up. It is always special too as my Momma and my sister and I celebrated at a sunrise service and that was the last time the three of us were together while our Momma was living.

My plan is to be at home and continue with my online Work. I will be going to Church on Wednesday for the "Way of the Cross"  and on Sunday for the celebration of  Easter. There is no special way of celebrating the week, just making just that God is always in my thoughts and in my plans.

I am a Christian, yet call no manmade religion my own. God made man, man made religion in my estimation. I will re-read the book The Shack for my soul, and will watch the movie The Passion Of The Christ for my dedication to Christ above. If He can withstand that for me, I can shed tears and attempt to feel His pain and sufferering for Him. I will pray for those who do not know Him, and attempt to to show others the way. At present, I am watching the History Channel's show The Bible and enjoying these stories greatly. Jesus just fed the 5,000 and it was amazing to see the story come to life. If only we had that kind of faith, what could we do for the world?

Prayer is vital to America and too many do not offer this simple thing to Him. Pray for those who are not praying, and I will do the same.

Resurrection Sunday will be the highlight of this Passion week. Starting today we focused on the triumph of Christ as he fulfilled his earthly mission as the second Adam. On Friday we will remember His atoning substitutionary death for the sins of mankind by the shedding of His blood on the cross, suffering God's wrath in the place of Christians. On Sunday we will celebrate the day He rose from the dead proving that as Eternal God He paid an eternal price and satisfied the holy justice of God. He lives to forgive and save and we celebrate these truths. This short video shows why Easter means so much to Bible believers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6t0s7fpg1M. Hope you have a great Easter Sunday!

Good Friday is considered " Good" because it is when Christ reconciled himself to the world.
It was necessary for our salvation. If you believe.

But you have not told me why it was necessary. That's what I am questioning. Can't you forgive others without expecting a blood sacrifice? A god should be able to forgive on a whim.

And why would Jesus have to reconcile himself? Not following you.

For me, the goodness (or Godliness, as the original meaning is closer to God's Friday) of the day lies in the steadfastness of God & Jesus in spite of the violent actions of humanity punishing an innocent. Jesus lived the Mind of God, remaining G

I have spent several months collecting and hand making some items that will be used in a Good Friday youth event. I have collected some very old, huge square cut nails (about six inches long). A friend has gotten an appropriate sized cross beam, I made a flagrum (the Roman scourging device used on Christ), a pilum (the lance/javelin type weapon used to pierce His side, and a crown of thorns made from hawthorn branches. Making the falgrum, pilum, and crown of thorns was an incredible meditation, beacuse, of course, it was MY sin that made those in the first place. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
