An avid reader does some writing of her own on HubPages
1. What do you like doing when you're not on HubPages?
Reading, eating, taking walks, talking to my sister on the phone, shopping, watching movies, listening to music, and playing with my clothes. I have some houseplants that I show some love to, also.
2. How did you find HubPages?
I was in my Netflix queue when I noticed at the top of the page, a banner ad for HubPages and it seemed easy and fun. I decided to give it a whirl, because I had some extra time right about then and was getting lonely, working from home.
3. You have many different subjects for your hubs. Which subject do you enjoy the most?
I do have a wide range of interests, which I attribute to reading a lot. So many fictional works have factual references to so many subjects, many of which I decided to look into further.
4. How do you pick topics to write about?
Usually on something I've been reading about lately.
5. Have you always been keen on writing?
Well, the writing of others. I've always been a great reader, but my occupation, for over twenty years, was in accounting and government compliance. I was a General Manager for a meat company, for a while, too, so my days were so occupied with business, that I found it relaxing to come home and distract my mind by diving into a book.
6. We all have a book in us. Are you going to write a book and if so, in what genre?
I'm up to about Part 20 or so in the "Stories of My Life" series on HubPages, and many of my friends on HubPages have suggested I turn that into a book. I think I might, when I have time again. It's already mostly written, here on HubPages, so that's half the battle. The genre would be autobiographical fiction, I guess. I wonder very much if that genre is marketable these days, so I also wonder very much if it'd be worth the time spent. If I did it, it would be out of love for writing. I doubt it'd get published anywhere but HubPages.
7. Are there set times during the day when you write?
Not really. Whenever I have some time and am moved to "speak".
8. What is the best part of HubPages for you?
The poets. I was actually moved to write the only poem I've ever written from reading the poets on HubPages. (A Lover's Prayer: I'm quite proud of it.) We have some really, really fantastic poets here.
9. Are you having fun on HubPages?
Oh, of course!
10. Tell us more about yourself.
Well, what in particular? I live in a city which is very wintery for about five months of the year, so I learned to cross-country ski. It is so beautiful. Nature, when purified by a blanket of snow, is like Narnia. So gorgeous it takes your breath away. And I wonder then about this Creation.
I have my elderly mother living in the same little brick apartment building with me. She is 89 years old, and she remembers when the horse and cart came with a big chunk of ice for the bottom of the icebox. She moved back here from Tennessee after Dad died. We hadn't really seen much of each other since I was 19, and now I was 43 years old. She treated me like a child of about 6 or 7 years, at first, and we didn't get along. We had so many issues from the past, from all the hardships of my harsh upbringing. Now we do; she and I have both made the necessary adjustments. I'm glad I could finally be reconciled to her. It took a long time.
