In my family they go from rare to average to heroic.  My parents had a collie named Tess, a mut name Doger-loved her when I was 5, Cheasapeak Retriver-Buddy another Collie named Bread, my brothers dog- Air Dale Terrier- Zues, My German Shepard- Maya- Jack Russels- Poly, Tug, Tag-  The names seemed to fit the personality of the Dog.  My mom's Air Dale was Two Bit- She was an angel on Earth- with a saint like personality.  My German Shepard is a true bitch- so protective of the immediate family- but is mean to outsiders- Maya the Indian Goddess detroyer and bringer of life- so it all fits perfectly!!!  I think dogs know their name is unique or just randomly picked- they will rise to their name- like a person?????

When I was a child we had 4 dogs, an old Beagle that had lost all his teeth we named "Raddler", a Red Tic his name was "Yip Yip" and 2 Black Labs, The older one we called "Pete", the younger one was the son of Pete so we called him "Repete" because he looked just like his dad..
I now have a Yellow Lab, "Maggie".

My husband named our pup, Booger!!Yes, just like what's in the nose. Although it's really supposed to be "Bugger, i.e. such a cute little Bugger (chap)! Without too much embarrassment, we've been calling out that name for 15 years now and the Boog dog is still going strong at 15!

Well, I have a little maltese named Jack, Jackson. but we call him Jack, his son is called Max, Maxwell, and his wife (Jacks wife) is called Kerra.  They are all maltese.  Jack had been a puppy in a puppy mill and still is kind of skittish.  He dosnt like men and barks at everyone who comes in, but I love them all a lot.....I once had a dog named Luke who died of cancer. Sad story.  I was in a Biblical mood when I called him Luke.  I once had a cat named Simon Peter....Happy Thanksgiving everyone, even the dogs.

I have 3 chihuahuas.  The first two kept their rescue names because I though it would help them settle in at my house.  The third I got as a puppy and named her penny because she is the tiniest of the bunch and because of her copper-colored markings.
