I once had a rottweiler-dalmation mix (much prettier than it sounds, btw) whose name was Pumpernickel. Somehow, it just fit her...

My all time favorite pet name, though, has got to be Princess Enid Evelyn Penelope. She was my aunt's cat; we called her P.E.E.P. for short.

Wow, some fantastic names...One of my favorites was the name of a Pug I met in a park -- Dumpling.  Dumpling the Pug; that one cracked me up.

    A dog named Dog.
Never knew why the owner named him that. He was usually short on words. I'm sure that's the reason why.

A few years ago, when my son was still in high school the family of a friend of his got a new malti-poo puppy.  His friend chose the name Mofo for the new pup and his mum thought it was a cute name that really suited.  That is until his friends came over to meet Mofo and their snorting and snickering alerted the mother to something being up with the name other than just cute.  The pups name was quickly changed.

I had a puppy we got from the animal shelter, she was a rat terrier, and her markings on her back looked like a ghost face, with big black spots on her shoulder blades and a big black spot right in the middle of her back. In low light it did look kinda creepy ghost like so we started to call her Casper but since she was a female we settled on Cassie. Which she reponded to right away. Like it was her name all along.

Our friends named their dog (Labrador x Short haired German Shepherd) Columbus as he was a great one for exploring when he was a puppy.  Sadly he is no longer with us.  They went on to give their next two dogs normal names of Poppy and Rosie, they were sisters.

Have recently come across a guide dog puppy in training called Polo.  He as very large, as in tall and lanky Golden Retriever.

    hubbers
My daughter's English bulldog was named Bogadoodle on papers but was called Bogart in our family world.A terrific companion and great with the kids. I had the pleasure to dog sit one time. I took him out, gave him a command '' come on bog'' let's go back in. Bogart heard me call, stopped and turned to look at me with a '' why are you bothering me look''. English bulldogs can be stubborn at times and will try to let you know who's the boss. Bogart passed away, is missed and will always be remembered.
    End of story!

Can we post best cat names, too, or do I need to make a new OP for that?
