I'm curious about that, and what other hubbers who do write hubs feel about it.
I've seen some folks who don't write hubs, but who obviously read in HubPages and comment on hubs, and who participate in the forums with a good heart and a restrained hand.
But I've also seen some others who seem to be nothing but trolls. Especially in some of the categories like politics and religion.
I have some hubs but don't really do to much anymore. I usually just like to come to the forums and read through them
I welcome their opinions, and encourage them to write Hubs based on what they write on the forums! I have seen some really long, well-constructed posts from them, which could definitely make for great Hubs. And perhaps they are here because they wish to be among writers and authors, not just the regular 4Chan crowd.
How do I feel about THOSE people? They should get lives! Clearly they are just here be bullies, and make themselves feel better about their lives by bringing others down. If they weren't here for that purpose, they would write Hubs and post constructive, open-minded replies in the forum!
I've had a forum topic closed because of such trolls... That's great, you don't agree with me, but don't post huge long essays about how I am wrong, and initiate arguments with others by poking fun of their religions and beliefs. If they only realized how unwelcome their opinions really are, yet, they keep posting...
It is possible that some members use an account for the sole purpose of participating in the forums. I think we will see more of this activity as the new profile pages are implemented. If someone is writing on child care for example, they may not want to have their religious/political forum activity available to their readers.
That seems contrary to the TOS, doesn't it? If someone is writing hubs under one i.d. and participating in forums using another i.d.... well, maybe not, if they do only use the one i.d. in forums.
Does that account for many zero-hub forum participants? Sometimes when I see someone's post in a forum, I get curious about what they're writing. Then I go to the profile, and they don't have any hubs at all.
I do not think it is a TOS problem if only one account uses the forums. Some individuals sign up to internet forums for the sole purpose of pushing a certain agenda. Others may fall under my example, attempting to separate their forum activity from their hubs.
I have another account with around 60 hubs, that account has not seen the forums in over two years.
Who is the REAL Reality Bytes...?
Do I know you? I won't tell.
LOL, I was never really active in the forums with my first profile. I used my name on that account and did not want my forum posts to show up on a Google search. I doubt that I made any lasting impressions here with that account. It does receive some nice traffic though.
17.91% is the answer you were looking for.
It should also be known that 81.3% of statistics are made up on the spot.
That's true - it's the way it's usually done.
I disagree, I'm sure I read that it was 81.03%
My feeling is that if they've signed up for a Hubpages account to comment on Hubs, bless 'em. If they've just signed up to use an anonymous screen name to bait people in the forums, ___ 'em.
My feelings are also entirely irrelevant to Hubpages' policies.
I agree. Having interested readers who don't really want to write hubs and are also interested in being a part of the community in forums has a good feel about it, and adds to the site.
At the same time, I'm seeing some trolls out there, sliming their way around the forums, especially the political and religious ones. They seem to be there only to push a particular agenda, as Reality Bites said, or to stir up trouble. Unfortunately, there is no way to electrify their keyboards.
I've noticed that there appears to more 0 hub profiles who are also quite prolific in the forums. I thought perhaps it might have something to do with the up and coming US elections...possibly.
Nature of the internet. Not only are people allowed the anonymity of screen names, they have begun to seek anonymity for their anonymity. What can that possibly say about them? It's surely a sign of cowardice, if not a veritable declaration as to the vacancy of their opinions.
If you haven't the guts to say what you really feel, now, in this time where the police state is only a seedling being watered by the fear and Utopian idiocy of the craven left and the self-righteous arrogance and greed of the hypocritical right, then, ironically, that cowardice will serve you best when the police state arrives.
Fear gives birth to the thing it dreads while wearing the mask of itself.
Ignorance cheers it on, and laziness pours the drinks.
I think I love you. Too bad I'm not gay.
Update: I know that you are not either.
That statement is really quite profound.
Thanks. To me it seems obvious to anyone looking, which is why I try to stay out of political threads. They drive me nuts. Makes me feel like the figurehead on the bow of the Titanic sometimes, trying to scream a warning with wooden words no one can hear. Either that or I just drink too much.
Me thinks that great clarity can be found in drinking too much.
Seriously, why spend time even worrying if a hubber only forumates and doesn't hubbenate. If you don't like what they say in the political or religious forums then don't go there. They have just as much right to comment as you do. If they enjoy baiting you then the problem lies with you that rises to the bait too easily. Maybe the forum is their only source of entertainment. You know that old saying, if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Over the years I've been on HP the amount of times people whinge about trolls is unbelievable. Get over it. If your main purpose for being here is hubbenating then write hubs and focus your time and energy on writing good quality hubs. Other people might prefer to forumate and have no desire to hubbenate. It's their right.
Why, thank you, Mother. We are all straightened out now and will go to bed without our supper.
Moving back to the original question about what percentage don't write hubs? That's an interesting question...anyone have an actual number?
I don't have the answer, but that is in the category of how many people read the hubs and don't leave a comment or vote, especially when they are one of your followers. I just wish they would say "good hub," or "that stinks"!
We should be more aware of encouraging new authors with comments. I really wanted that feedback when I had less than about 30 hubs. Now that I have a lot more hubs and more page views, it would drive me crazy to have to respond if most people left comments.
If it helps any, I like seeing my new hub crawl up the ratings list on my account page as it gets more page views. That shows that people are liking it.

There are some troubled men who regularly use forums, and they have not a single hub in their profiles. How come? How is it allowed? I do not get it--- Is HubPages a chat-website?

I was reading an interesting Forum thread when I noticed one contributor has been a member for 11 months, has written no hubs, but has contributed to discussion 383 times - and amassed 9 followers. Another has been a member 21 months, has written no hubs, has 294 posts and has a dozen followers.I...

Why do you write hubs? Money, fame, enjoy writing, personal cleansing?Writing hubs is a fantastic way for me to unwind after work, and at the same time have a third-party attributed value assigned to that writing, which lets me also fulfill some competitive aspect of my personality. Why do other...
