Gotta Go get ready for the day See ya all later!! Be
Puts log on the fire and sets coffee pot for the day folks...
I gotta post fast - my screen keeps blanking off and on and its raining so hard I'm afraid I'm gonna lose my satellite connection! but other than that . . .
Not anymore...at least for a few minutes.
How are you?
Not bad...Having trouble getting motivated today...Fortunately, I don't have anything pressing to do... I think I'll try to read another chapter for class and then get into my needlework.
I've been writing in the forums, but it seems like every time I answer one of the forums it just dies after my answer... What's up with that?
What's going on in your neck of the woods?
not really much. just been job hunting a lot lately while trying to put some money together for this semester. other than that, im good. well that, and im trying to watch and review some films that might get nominated for the academy awards.
i'm sorry to hear about the forums though. i wouldn't feel too bad. lately, that's been happening to me a lot lately too. i don't know why. maybe they're scared of the miniature rifle i guess, i don't know. lol. what were you going to read if you don't mind me asking
I know how getting money for the semester goes....I've *just about* got the almost $700.00 dollars I need to travel for my classes this semester.
I'm taking a class about group counseling, so today I'm going to read the second in a series of chapters about the stages of the group. It's a step-by-step look at the life of a counseling group: How it begins, what the leader needs to do and look for, how the clients become oriented, typical problems that arise in each stage, etc. I'll be looking at the stage where the group work really begins to get intense (i.e., after everyone gets to know and trust everyone else and they understand how to effectively participate...then the real therapy can get underway).
It's pretty dry reading Unless you're really into it. I've never given much thought to "group therapy," but I assume that it will help me with counseling families, since families are "groups" too.
Uh oh! *grabs her crook and searches for the missing sheep*
How are you today, mega?
I wonder if people would be interested in sending their mental health questions to a hubber who would then be willing to write hubs on them as she could...?
What do you think?
Yes, definitely write hubs on mental health - first one should be a definition of mental health - I have never been able to determine what the f it is!
I am fine as can be in all this rain and gloom.
getting some other stuff besides hubbing done for a change.
miss our sheep, though - I've looked for him all over, left a comment for him too - he must be busy with school. vaguely recall he said something about a heavy course-load.
how about you - how are ya! I could single handedly keep you in mental health topics as my whole family has been crazy for at least six generations and not content to suffer from the same mental illness. Oh no - we have to be creative - we are currently mixing and matching all kinds of psychoses!
You know, that's not a bad idea really...assuming I had a definition of good mental health. Unfortunately, the entire field has been looking for that one, and no one knows what constitutes "normal," so it's a toughie. But if the definition of mental disorder is SYMPTOMS plus IMPAIRMENT...then mental health might be considered the opposite, or lack of one. For instance, one might have some symptoms of something, but no real impairment...therefore they would not have a disorder (but they might be going through a stressful time)...does that make sense?
I think if people sent questions, I would have ample fodder for Hubs, I would be getting extra research and practice thinking about other people's problems...and I might actually help someone! LOL
LOL @ mixing psychoses...I'd love to see how that works!
yep - you could write about how there is no definition really, but different perspectives on it. Also I really think there is a new "hybrid" psych illness approach going on, though I don't know if I was just joking or its true. Also wanted to tell you - my Dad, who hated all doctors, used to say that anyone who goes to a dr. to find out if they're crazy could save the $ because, they are obviously nuts to want to ask a dr.! and that is also a joke but kinda true! I've known some people who wouldn't have been half as nuts if they'd just stayed away from the psychiatrist/therapists for a while!
It's true. Some therapists are just as screwed up, if not more, than the clients. One of the really essential components to good therapy, in my opinion, is that the counselor has gone through counseling themselves. All people have issues, and mucking about with people's minds and behaviors has consequences.
Part of me is actually terrified about the career path I've chosen, just because of the potential to hurt people. However, I really do think the benefits can outweigh the risks--I would like to work to provide mental health education to more people. They should know what to look for in a counselor, what their rights are, and what to expect. It should be common knowledge. I think then counselors would have to be more accountable for their actions.
just thought of another craziness topic - why is it that when you go to a psychiatrist they always manage to diagnose you as having their specialty? Like the Dr. who did his dissertation on PTSD is gonna find that you are suffering from PTSD, and the one who specializes in acute OCD is gonna tell you that's your problem. I have had several different diagnoses and guess what! all of them were those Dr.'s specialities! have they no shame! what you look for is what you get, I think. They are so clever at asking just the right questions to get their desired result. So there you go - write about that!
my internet crashed on me too a little while ago when it was raining so hard - I thought it was to do with satellite signals -how are ya steven?
BTW, if I see Denno around, I will let him know you miss him.
oh, also, it occurs to me that you would have to print a disclaimer everytime - that your helpful advice is just suggestions and that you aren't actually practicing psychology - I think you can get in trouble for "treating" people without a license, can't you?
@glassSpider
wow, it sounds pretty complex to be honest. so you have to travel alot for your classes?
@mega
im doing great thanks. just working on a few movie reviews while talking to you guys at the moment. sorry to hear about your internet connection crashing too though. i wish i could blame mine on the weather, but the connection I have just runs too slow. one of these days i'll have to replace it. lol
@ Steve...I live in West Virginia, but my school is in Florida. I do quite a bit of my course work online (i.e., reading texts, writing reports, etc.) Then once per semester I travel to FL for about 60 hours of intense in-person class work.
It is complex, and everything I learn makes it even more complex. Every answer raises more questions.
oh i see. thats pretty cool. sorry to hear you have to travel out that far though once a semester. however, since it's online that's probably good as you can set up your own schedule, right? Well, i hope you do well at it. you seem like a very smart girl, so I know you'll be successful.
in regards to what you said about your classes, basically what your saying is that your classes are a lot like a michael moore documentary, where every answer he puts down just raises another question?
my real problem with the puter these days is the stupid monitor blinks off sometimes - and I think its just wearing out but I don't want to buy a new one yet!
also Spider - you know that movie "What About Bob?" with Bill Murray? My kids and I watched it about 20 times until my youngest son started memorizing the dialogue and created a trivia game around the movie - riding in the car he would ask me questions about the movie - it was hysterical! but then, he grew up and out of that - now we laugh about it! I still laugh inwardly when I remember that scene with his goldfish -! if you haven't seen it you should buy it because you will probably want to see it over and over!
i loved that movie too when i was a kid. i especially liked the ending. that was funny.
LMAO Believe it or not, I HAD to watch that movie in one of my early semesters! I love it, and I think it's hilarious...and it actually makes some excellent points about being a counselor and some of the potential problems with counseling.
so they made you watch a few movies during some of your classes spider? what other films did they have you watch?
We had to watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest just last semester for my Ethics class. I had seen it before, but it was good to watch it again.
That's about it for mainstream...There are plenty of videos about counseling though...the kinds of things you'd find in school libraries.
*sigh*
I don't get it...I had a bottle of antibiotics delivered to the house for my roommate, made sure the electric bill was paid, and had a friend drop off some movies for us to watch this evening...all spontaneous and as a treat.
The roommate wakes up (at the early hour of 2:00 PM) and starts flying off the handle when I tell him what I've done for us...because he needed to talk to this friend of ours as well, and why didn't I wake him up.
Well hell, I didn't know he wanted to talk to the friend; I was trying to do something nice.
Now we've just had a major fight and I had to push him out the door and lock it because he would not respond to my repeated requests to get out of my face and stop yelling.
I've got to get out of here just as soon as I can.
I'm super-P****D, but otherwise okay. I don't stand for abuse. He gets up in my face talking crap and the police get called, as simple as that. I've got the door locked right now to give both of us some time to calm down. But I'm going to hop off of here for now and go talk to him in a few minutes.
that thread about the ruffled cock has me laughing so hard I can't hardly type!
the ruffled cock got me to, on the nail. Genius, pure genius!
Yo. Having a good time, nearly killed a bottle of wine, wishing the fairy would pay us a visit... you know who I mean???
lol. sadly, i don't sorry. who are you refering to if you don't mind me asking. lol.
You know, I looked but couldn't find her. She was cool. Had this little fairy myth going, fairies are real and so forth, very great...about a week or so ago...We were on the zombie thing then, too, and THAT was pretty wild...good to see you, Steven...
Welcome to the Tribe!
the fairy metamorphed into a warrior princess - how's it been going for you? long time no see!
I've been over in that "rooster" thread making jokes - and right now we are having a rare thunder storm with lightening and everything - so I may just shut down the puter til it's over! don't want to fry anything --- see you later!
oh thanks paradise, but im already part of the tribe. however, i think we just missed each other, so i guess that's why we didn't see each other here before. however, i appreciate the welcome anyway though. yeah that zombie fight was fun. i thinkk i had my iron man avatr at the time i think.
Ah, iron man...I could use one of those, just kidding...
i think she just said she had to go because there was a lot of lightning outside her house.
im sure she'll be back soon though. so how do you like hubpages so far?
Ok, very good, I love reading the people's stories, some very great articles here, all for FREE!!! Astonishing!!!
But,as far as making money on AdSense...well....I have very close to 10,000 views and have not yet recieved a check, so my advise is to moderate your expecatations in reference to revenue, should you have some expectations...
The people are cool, the people are great, except when a religious person, however sincere he/she may be, rides the hobbyhorse a little bit too hard...
I have to agree with you on that one Paradise!
I am a bit pissed about the "psychic reading" thread. Oh well.
Answer 5 questions and the poster will give you a reading. The one that BP took over.
I answered the five questions and he never gave me a reading, I wonder why? Didnt' like my answers, I suppose.
oh yeah that one. i actually participated in that one, but he completely didn't analyze what i said. therefore, i just gave up on it. lol. i guess im crazy or something. oh well. nah, i wouldn't worry about it too much dave.
Hey, Austin TX just became your fan...though, weirdly enough, I LOVE movies, books were my first love, and I Think, though could be wrong, THAT's where you really learn to write, by reading.
Gotta check out your work, already saw some things that intrigued me.
Nothing major.
Ex-girlfriend from way back just sent me a message on facebook.
Apparently she has a child now.....
She seems to think that this child may be connected to me somehow....
So.......
I am trying to figure out how to tell my wife that I may have a child with another woman that I didn't know about.
It could be that she is jealous of your moving on and shes trying to cause trouble and stress for you
I really don't think its mine, due to the times not really matching up. Something is screaming foul to me.
Anyway, Where everyone and where is the party?
Yeah I am fine. Just kind of hit me. I was a little concerned about things. Two nights in a row that I am having issues. This is not normal at all. What the hell is happening in my world?
Thanks Steve

This is likely A LOT to "ask" but if you have a few minutes please take a look. I've been having fun here on Hubpages for nineteen months and have recently decided to take the productivity level more seriously. I've started designing my own website and intend to start writing more and...

I've just received word that I've qualified to receive some "assured long-term" benefits for disability - on an application process that took over 2 years and many individuals/professionals as advocates' assistance. This means that I can evade the constant worry of homelessness, so long...

Wrote a new hub this afternoon, just for fun. It is topical, relating to a new news item today. Would someone like to read it in it's entirety and comment, please? Pretty please? I don't usually do 'satire' if that is what it could be described as, should I leave it as it is, or go a bit further...

I have two hubs up so far. I am not entirely sure what a great ranking would be considering that they are quite new, but they are both above 60. Is this pretty good for newly established hubs? I would appreciate any feedback on my work and what can be done to improve for the future, as well as...
