Could someone please let me know whether or not my latest hub made it into the contest? I am sooooo cunfused despite the seemingly simple rules!!!!!
Please Help!!!!
You published it 13 hours ago, yet according to the rules, it has to be published after 12pm PT (today), which was only just under 1 hour ago.
So I'm out of the competition? I could cry. LOL
I accidently pressed publish now, then unpublished it as soon as i realized my mistake...Bummer....
Thanks Lily...It's a disappointment but I'll survive!!!!!!!
I could cry too, Ann. It's my own fault. I thought the contest was one topic per day, i.e. from midnight to midnight. Now, thanks to thisisoli's posting in the "Need Help" forum, I've realised a "day" runs from noon on one day to noon the next.
So my first Hub was published too early and doesn't qualify. Bummer.
ARGH, Marisa how frustrating. I'm so sorry. That is so something that would happen to me.
So, let me get this straight. We have until noon tomorrow to publish today's Herbal Remedies topic. Noon pacific time, right?
yes, I believe that's correct. so for east coasters (US), that would be 3p.m.??
You're welcome - sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but, of course I have no say, so maybe they'll make an exception since it seems several people didn't realize the specific contest time frames...
If not, then move on to the next contest topic of interest! I published one for today's contest topic and I have 5 or 6 already written for a few of the other days throughout the month. I like writing health related hubs, but I didn't realize I would be this motivated, especially when i wanted to take a break!
Forgive me if this has already been pointed out but there seems to be a conflict in the categories. I want to get this right. Week 1 - Natural & Alternative Health. Today's topic is herbal remedies. It seems that when you click on the categories the nearest is natural and alternative medicine. I hope this is the same?
Also, it is 9.40pm here in the UK... can I publish now?
Thanks for your help x
It might be helpful to have a clock showing on the contest link, giving the official contest time. If it wasn't for thisisoli mentioning it, I'd have no clue that March 1, for example, actually means late evening March 1 to late evening March 2.
I know GMT, CET and UT, but I've never heard of a PT.
Hi Folks,
I'm a very new Hubber/Hubbist/(what IS the right word?) and this compy sounds a good incentive. I have just published a Hub on herbal remedies - if it is classified correctly will it automatically be entered or is there another button to press?
Thanks in advance
Hi, welcome, as far as I understand the rules, you simply have to categorize it for that particular days topic, so it looks like you're all set. yes, now you are an official hubber.
Hey everyone!
We're about 5 hours into the first contest day, and I see 70 Hubs published already! I've glanced at a few and they are, for the most part, excellent!
Sorry about any confusion about the timing - always a difficult thing when you have people competing around the world. I tried to make it as clear as possible in the rules without being obnoxious by repeating myself.
GOOD LUCK!
Ugh! I just read this thread and published my first hub one hour too early!! I thought it was from midnight to midnight too!
What if I unpublish and republish it now? Would it count?? lol
Any chance we can have a time clock on the contest page? I think that's a great suggestion.
A question:
As many of these hubs are about herbs and natural treatments and other health related issues that people may try without proper consultation or doing further study, is there some sort of standard disclaimer we should add to our hubs?
Just something to consider.
I'm creating one for my own hub, but was wondering if there was a short and simple standard medical disclaimer I could use or was readily available?
And I agree a time clock would be useful
Oh bum! I've just realised I published my hubs for todays topic of home remedies too early since I'm on GMT and not PT. (Not well and my brain is struggling to work big time.) Is there any way that I can resubmit them within the correct time frame?
Aw shucks! Too bad am not eligible. I would have had quite a few to submit.
Hi rm - I wish I could but I would have to unpublish and then start with new urls I'll just leave the ones I've done as they are and maybe write another one. Hopefully getting it within the right time slot this time!
I am at southern US, what time do I need to submit article so i can join the contest???, 3 pm, 12 pm or 1 pm? Thank you so much,
I've got a question: I published my herbal remedy hub yesterday evening at about 10.00 pm GMT (2.00 pm in California?). So far it's only had one view (which was me going back into it to edit it).
Is there some kind of queuing system going on with the helpful health hubs, which delays their appearance in the "latest hubs" list?
Here's a converter you can use to determine the starting and ending time for each day's contest, relative to Pacific Time here in San Francisco, California, USA:
Time Zone Converter
The start of a contest day is at 12 noon in San Francisco, and ends the subsequent calendar day at 11:59 am in San Francisco (all Pacific time).
Thanks Jason for the link for the time converter. Maybe there is a way to put it at the beginning of this thread so it is more obvious?
I would like to know if there is an rss feed for this contest? As you mentioned, there is a large volume of hubs being written for the first day. How can one track hubs that one hasn't read yet? I'm trying to keep up with reading them but miss many that are logged into the general hubtivity feed when I'm off reading.
Also, is there a way to "move" a hub that has been published too early due to the confusion of time zones? I've noticed that this is a common question.
Done.
Unfortunately, no. The only thing I can suggest is to follow the day's topic to add it to your feed & Hubtivity, and then unfollow it the next day when the contest period for that topic is over.
I'm afraid there isn't, and we can't change the rules once the contest is started, nor provide ad-hoc exceptions. We posted the rules and this thread 5 days before the contest started so there was ample opportunity for interested participants to clear up any misconceptions.
However, there are still 27 opportunities to get the timing right!
Jason,
Thank you for putting the converter on the first page with the contest information. I am sure that it will be used often.
I understand that rules are rules, and having the next 27 opportunities will satisfy my craving to write and participate.
The overseeing of the contest is a big job, so thank you for keeping on top with this thread, and thanks to the rest of the HP team in supporting the contest.
Beth
We're excited to announce a fourth judge for the contest!
Dr Jan Gurley, known as "Doc Gurley" to readers of the San Francisco Chronicle (her column bio) will be joining our 3 other judges for the contest.
Please check our her site as well, especially for her account of her recent trip to post-earthquake Haiti.
Wow, on the first day of the contest, 153 entries on the topic of Herbal Remedies!
IMPRESSIVE!
I'm happy to announce the winner of the daily drawing:
Zsuzsy Bee!
Check out her terrific Hub here:
Controlling the discomforts of Menopause the Herbal way!
Congratulations on the $50 win!
N.B. The daily drawing is a random drawing among the day's entrants. We've certified that the Hub meets the requirements of being on-topic, over 300 words, completely original, and categorized correctly.
The next contest topic is Home Remedies and the contest period started about a half-hour ago. You'll have more than 23 hours (remember, before tomorrow at 11:59 am Pacific!) to complete up to 3 eligible Hubs on this topic.
Good luck and keep up the great work!!
Im kinda confused if I submitted my hub for the contest correctly. I put it in the right category and am running the feed on that hub but it doesnt appear anywhere and was wondering if anyone can tell me what I did wrong. Thanks.
I posted mine a little too late, but at least I have a useful hub now! Now I need to start on the next one..
I just got the email...Yeehah how about that, I won. Usually I have a flip comment or answer to anything and everything now???? I'm taking my hot flash over into the kitchen and pour myself a celebration Tea (the menopause kind) I'd like to thank the academy wooooops wrong place and wrong time.
Thank you.
Thank you, Marisa - actually, the team working on the contest is VERY small: Fawntia on engineering, Jacob on design, and me for everything else! This is the first contest where we've opened it beyond US participants only. If all goes well, we hope to extend it to other countries in the future. (This is a confidence-building step )
Lily - the People's Choice voting will begin Monday March 8th at noon for the first week's Hubs (Natural & Alternative Health is the umbrella topic for the week), and ends Wednesday March 10th at noon, so there will be 48 hours for voting. The voting will happen on the Contest Page (the poll capsule will go up when it's voting time).
Can a hub can be edited at all once it has been published in the Helpful Health Hubs contest, such as adding photos or tweaking conent?
Absolutely - they're still your Hubs. In terms of contest eligibility, though, you'll want it ready by the 11:59 am Pacific deadline. After that, you can enhance it to your heart's content.
Shame on HubPages for coming up with such a devious plan for contributing to my neglect of my family and friends, and house and other responsibilities, and in general, what used to be my life!
I hear ya, Rosemary! I was planning on taking some time off from the computer this month because I've been ignoring my kids too much, but you know I couldn't pass up the opportunity to write more health-related hubs (sorry kids!) Oh, and I really need the money, not that I'm expecting to win anything though!
I'm glad it's not just me. Sigh. I have 3 kids who I love with all my heart, bless them, but they are the world's biggest chatterboxes the moment they come home from school. So, all work on my hubs ceases from that moment until they're off to bed. I find myself working into the wee hours of the night to publish (4 am this morning). Yawn.
Hi Lily Rose, I hear you, sister!
I have a question. I've written a Hub on Reflexology and put it under the Chinese Medicine category - but now I see there's a separate category for Acupuncture/Acupressure.
I know reflexologists are touchy about being confused with acupressurists, so I think I've put it in the right place - but not sure. I'd hate to get disallowed for not being relevant - what do others think?
Hi rm!
That hub you requested is finished.
it might not be published until next week though since I am supposed to publish this piece in divorce first.
Hi Jason I have already written my hub here on HP's and it is saved not published. I clicked on the link for the category I wanted to write about from the list of topics under the link 'contest'.
Will this still work if I just add the feed and HP graphic to it on the week it starts before publishing it?
If I try and add it from the forum on the day of submission it will just start like I am writing a new hub and won't be able to add it.
Blondepoet, am I missing something else? As far as I can see, there's no banner and no feed required for the contest.
If you're talking about the HubMob, you have to start it from the HubMob link.
Lol Marisa yes I think I was reading the wrong thing. I was reading the info for Hub Mob.
Just a quick reminder for everyone to read the rules on the contest page - most, if not all, the questions you might have are answered there.
Ok - thanks so much Jason. I'll read the rules again and see if I can figure this out.
Day 2 of the contest is complete, with 109 entries on the topic of Home Remedies!
I'm happy to announce the winner of the daily drawing:
nancy_30!
Check out her terrific Hub here:
Home Remedies For Digestive And Urinary Problems
Congratulations on the $50 win!
The current topic is Chinese Medicine and the contest period started about 45 minutes ago. You'll have more than 23 hours (remember, before tomorrow at 11:59 am Pacific!) to complete up to 3 eligible Hubs on this topic.
Happy Hubbing and Keep On Truckin'!
Well done and congratulations Nancy Keep on Hubbing.....jimmy
Is this anything like doing a hubmob hub? do i have to click on any particular link to start my hub or use any particular graphic or should i just do it n post it on the specific date?
So if there is generally just over 100 hubs published a day, and I publish three hubs each day, then my chance of winning the $50 prize is just over 35%, which means i'll be damn unlucky to not win at least one of these prizes!
Not quite - it would be about 3% (right?), but some days will have fewer than 100 Hubs entered...
sorry i meant winning one $50 prize over the entire competition, but with only 48 entries on chinese medicine, three of which were mine, it looks like I might stand a greater chance
oh thisisoli, maybe tomorrow you will win or today, you have three a day thats awesome, I wish you will win next time because of your effort, I will make one today as well,
Day 3 of the contest is over, with 48 entries on the topic of Chinese Medicine! Quite a bit fewer today, probably owing to the fact that this is a more specific, niche topic.
I'm happy to announce the winner of the daily drawing:
Kathryn Vercillo!
Check out her informative Hub here:
Treating Food Allergies with Chinese Medicine
Congratulations on the $50 prize!
The current topic is Energy Healing or Reiki (you can choose either) and the contest period started about 30 minutes ago. You'll have more than 23 hours (remember, before tomorrow at 11:59 am Pacific!) to complete up to 3 eligible Hubs on this topic.
Keep on Hubbin' on!
Am I the first to post on energy healing? Looking forward to seeing all the lovey hubbies x
http://hubpages.com/hub/Clear-Stuffy-Noses-With-Vinegar
catching up, far behind
Just completed day 4 of the contest with 55 entries on the topic of Energy Healing or Reiki! Lots of impressive Hubs on two slightly esoteric topics.
I'm happy to announce the winner of the daily drawing:
Chuck!
Check out his Hub here:
Reiki - Experiencing is Believing
Congratulations on the $50 prize!
Today's topics, which began about 20 minutes ago, are Naturopathy and Homeopathy (you can choose either). You'll have more than 23 hours (remember, before tomorrow at 11:59 am Pacific!) to complete up to 3 eligible Hubs on this topic.
Keep the awesome Hubs coming!
Wow, Congrats! Very cool contests, I will have to keep up to date with all the fun activities over here!
Though I am not eligible in the HELPFUL HEALTH HUBS CONTEST, but then also I published 3 hubs for today's topic, Naturopathy in the same category. Let's see how much traffic it brings in.
My first hub in AROMATHERAPY category. It was quite a hard on this and I know I will get positive results. Here is the title:
Aromatherapy Benefits of Clove Oil - Where to Buy Clove Oil
The link is available in this week's HubMob Weekly thread and HubChallenge Hub Links thread. We are not allowed to paste them here.
Maybe this has been covered and I just haven't come across it, yet. If you have a double topic like, say, aromatherapy and color therapy, does your hub have to be about both, or can you write one about each?
Thanks!
You can write one about each, aromatherapy or color therapy. I think you got it know B.T. Evilpants. If there are any other questions, i will definitely answer.
