HubPages today announced the first annual convention to be held in Los Angeles September 15, 2010. Guest speakers, breakout sessions, and social events are planned.
"I can't wait to met fellow hubbers in the real world," says hubber superstar, KeithTax.
Okayyyyyyy. I am enjoying a fantasy. But wouldn't it be great though! Our own convention. Hubbers and hubber wanna-bes could attend, sharing ideas and having a grand 'ol time.
Writers from every genre have multiple conventions to choose from every year. We need one, too.
Comments? Opinions?
We could set up gatherings at meetup.com if we wanted too.
What about a video conference. All with web cams could set up, then instant chat could be read by those for anyone who didn't have a web cam. In this way we would be able to keep it going virtually all day and night as we have Hubbers from around the globe, in different time zones etc.
I think this would be great and fun. Writers conferences are incredible to attend, I went to one in Florida that lasted three days, but that is an expense, where this would be virtually free.
They usually have a number of seminars each day. in our case webinars could be set up in advance and we would be able to catch them all, if interested, instead of having to choose like you would at a normal conference.
I want to shake hands with folks I see around HubPages. I attend a couple or three writing conventions each year and enjoy the heck out of it.
I am the treasurer of the Wisconsin Regional Writers' Association. They put on two super gatherings each year.
I also like to attend WorldCon, the annual world science fiction convention. It lasts 3-4 days, running 24/7. I need a vacation after attending.
Nothing but fun.
FAKE!!!
I was just having fun.
I am serious about an annual convention, though.
Fake with a smile and a sorry
Because it is a beautiful fantasy, and just enough to keep me from getting my housework done.
I know, it doesn't take much to distract me.
ooo shiny.
Let the city of San Francisco host the affair. More interesting sites to see, and isn't hubpages' base there?
Has to be in Vegas, cause what goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas!
rats, i thought this was real.
well, if they do have one, i'm there, definitely!
It would be great. More than likely unatainable for many but it should be an idea in the making.
There are several hundred thousand hubbers. A convention with a few hundred attending would be a huge success. I think many of the big names would look forward to a tax-deductible trip.
HubPages could setup several speakers on increasing traffic, SEO, and keyword research. The Keyword Academy could host part of the convention.
Sounds like fun to me.
Well for now we can just communicate through your hubber blog Dale!
By the way, as soon as you put my hub up I got google juice!
Not so sure about this can you imagine Mark Knowles and Brenda Durham in the same room?
LOL just kidding it could be fun.
I've always like the idea...I wanna meet my hubber friends in person dang it!
I've brought this up a couple of times before and the thread died. It's a good idea. Or maybe we could just invite every one to meet at a certain place and time about 6 months from now. Or it could be divided into regions. I bet a lotta hubbers from La, Tx, Ok, and Ar could meet in Dallas. It's a prime location.
Here is the big problem with conventions...groupies.
Tell me when so I can withdraw my funds......
You let me know when you are ready! I am flexible!
I don't know if like this idea. I am so much cooler on line.
I don't think we'd have the numbers.
You count all the active hubbers and divide it by the average number of sockpuppets, and you'd have far less than would be financially viable for a conference.
Great idea and for those of us who may not be able to afford the trip we can have some sort of video skype section so those of us who can't make it can still be involved.
Hmm....sounds like a plan.
The most important question of course, is if there will be an open bar.
What if I pay for everyone to attend? Would this make a difference?
I love the idea. I would definitely make arrangements to come.
damn it man you had my hopes all up lol but hey who knows it could happen one day
hubbers could get together and road trip there that live close together
i agee, it needs to last more than one day
wow, could we call it something other than a convention, that makes me think of travelling salesmen...or amway - other than that, its an excellent idea !!!!
Hey, we could have it in Randy's big pasture by the pond! It's right off the interstate! We've done it before, huh, Randy? We used to all take our tents and campers there and spend the night. We had a big bonfire, cooked, fish, and played guitars and sang. Who's in?? Oh, wait...maybe we should clear this with RD first...
Most of these people are "city slickers," Holle! The first time a rattlesnake made an appearance there would be a mass exodus.
I love that idea habee, maybe thats where the tribe could stay
Ya know, Fluffy, whenever I picture the tribe together, I always picture it in Randy's big field!

I thought I read a few years back that there was a "convention" of hubpage writers. If that's correct, how did that go? Is another scheduled for the future? What were people's feelings about meeting writers in person that they know only virtually? I'm wondering if...

I got an e-mail yesterday about being chosen to attend the Maven Coalition Conference for my work on HubPages. Did anyone else get the e-mail? What are your thoughts on it?

Do you think HubPages should have an annual convention where hubbers could meet in person? It could be interesting to meet some of the hubbers we interact with, and perhaps even create real friendships. There could be writing workshops, etc. What is your opinion?

Wouldn't it be interesting to see the results....meet in a centrally located city in the US. Too bad times are so tough. It would be fun.
