...and the opportunity arose, could you, would you poke your kidnappers eye/s out?
    Explain why or why not.

If they are actively steering a car, probably not.
      Otherwise I might.

        Geek;
The reason I asked this is because I was talking to friends about women fighting a kidnapper and I asked this question.
Her answer was 'oooohh, I could never That!" I said why? Your life might be at stake.
She said she'd probably be so scared she'd never even think of it.
I said if ya'd blind the guy and run like hell...!!!
If ya've ever been hit in the eye, you'll know what I'm talking about! IT IS PAINFUL!!!

I think even during driving I would. I would rather take my chances with a car crash then a kidnapping.

I would do whatever it took for them to let me go.  If someone removes you to another location you are more than likely going to die.

I always have my car key wedged between my two fingers as I walk in parking lots, sidewalks, etc. and I am prepared to go for the eyes should I have to defend myself. Why wouldn't I do it if I am being attacked?

If they have the intent of killing me or physically hurting me, then yes.  If they have the intent of disposing me or torturing me, then yes.  Why?  Survival instinct.

Either that, or I would use my neogitation skills and get in their head and play some wild mind games with them.  smile

Beth - don't count on your negotiation skills.  Even if you are some kind of expert on criminal minds, you probably won't have time.

Depends if they're dragging me off somewhere or not.  There's always time for negotiation.  It's an art and it only takes a few calculated words to plant the seed.  I always try to be non-violent first.  If that doesn't work, then they will know they've the wrong girl.

If I was tied up, there is a possiblity that I could not free up my hands or feet to get to their eyes.  That's why the mind games.  It's easy to find the weak one and work on that person to convince them otherwise.  When one has doubt, it does not take much to exploit the doubt and turn it into fear.  When fear takes over, the person will become unpredictable in their responses to their coherts, which will leave the opening for escape or at least a good fight.

Turning each player against their own is an easy approach.  Distraction from the main goal with confusion and fear will provide the opening for escape.

Not only will I take his eyes out, but I'll rip his privates right off.  I have no mercy for predators of this type.  I'll also drop him to the ground -- there are many pressure points on the body that will drop a man to the ground in one second.  I have the training and he'll know he picked the wrong person! smile

(I'm quite small, and I've thrown men who are 3x my size who have pinned me to the ground with their full weight on me... survival gives you great strength and power when you need it )

But to be more serious, I would do whatever it took. I'd reach for my knife first but if that failed, I would poke someone's eyes out, use teath or attempt to dig out their throat. I do know a few pressure points and I will fight dirty.
Anything can be a weapon, a rock, heavy purse or even a lady's  high heels.

Evvy: My friend is a female with 2 young daughters in their early teens.
I've studied some mixed martial arts and the eyes are the first things you take out if you are in a fight for your life.
We were chatting with the girls about protecting themselves in such a case.
It is a very important subject in this crazy world of "freaks."
Most girls never think of destroying an eye. the think of a man's gonads or nothing.
Most girls I've talked to think sticking a finger deep into a man's eye/s is gross...and wouldn't do it..
It's the first thing to go for! THE EYES!!!

I'd poke, cut, slice, hack, chop, etc., etc. I don't think I'd be very concerned for their wellbeing when they're treating me badly and do whatever I can to get out.

Unless they're still nice and somehow pitiful and have semi-understandable motivations and don't really want to hurt me. Then I'd go easy on them. I'd still beat them up if I can though, just to get them out cold and run. But I'd do it gently.

whooeeeee!  finally a sado-masochistic thread!  I thought it'd never happen!

so, yeah, I'd probably poke both eyes out though, unless the kidnapper was extremely gentlemanly and handsome and soft spoken and was a terrific lover - then, I'd probably hold on for dear life and consider myself lucky!

Course, if he (or she) was extremely disgusting and was yanking me aroun' I'd poke that sucker in both eyes and light out as fast as my little legs could carry me, squeeling, even!

I truly beleive that my survival instinct would kick in. My first impulse is to scream and yell 'FIRE' as loud as I can. Make a lotta noise, no matter where you are. It'll catch them off guard.

Go for the face, fight mean and dirty. Who cares if you hurt them..? Smash their face in and gouge their eyes out if you have to.  Your elbow is a good weapon: use it!

If you're over-powered, talk, talk, talk. Look for the first break you can get and go for it. Go completely limp if they have a hold on you. Then, when they release some pressure, break away if you can.

I pray this never happens to me or anyone I know. One never knows how you'll react to something like this. The main thing is be aware of your surroundings at all times, walk boldly, looking around you in front and behind, don't be afraid to stare back at somebody.

I will not initiate violence.  But defending myself?  That's another matter.  I study karate.  Get the picture?  Any kidnapper picking me would wish he hadn't.

And you don't have to poke the eyes to make them stop.  Take out their knee--a well-placed kick from the side will do--if they can't walk or run, they can't chase you.

Nelle, you are a woman after my own heart!

I gotta say I would go way more psycho then the psycho trying to kidnap me, I wouldn't get scared, I would get mad as h*ll! My goal would be to turn his skull into a bowling ball, never mind the eyes, I would be going for the gray matter behind the eyes. I would happily break my own thumb to turn his septum into a third hole to my skull bowling ball! He's on the floor unconscious? I have seen the movies, and I ain't done yet! He would get the full front of anger for any hurt I have had that I can remember.

I had a teacher in high school who told all the girls in the class, if ever we had someone pointing a gun at us saying 'get in the car!' to take the bullet instead. Once you get in that car the things that are likely to happen to you are so far worse then a gun shot or death, and most likely death would be the eventual outcome anyway. I could see where he was coming from.

      1. Stories Inc. profile image64
Stories Inc.posted 12 years agoin reply to this

Yes, but in your case, I suppose the "things far worse than death" would be the ones YOU do to the abductor...

Still, I get what the teacher said. If I HAD to chose and there would absolutely be no way to escape, Id probably take the bullet too.

  16. Disturbia profile image60

Oh yes, I'd take out his eyes, but more likely I'd put a bullet between them or whatever else it took to get away.  Why?  Well, I was overpowered and asulted once in my life... I fought like a wild animal and went down kicking and screaming, but I still went down.  That will never happen to me again.

I would say teach your daughters (and your sons) how to defend themselves as early as possible.  They can't be too young.  Unfortunately it's just a fact of life that the world is full of predators who like little children.  I have always talked to my girls about safety, strangers, bad people, and protecting themselves.  I was raised in NYC, lived in foster homes, ran away and lived on the streets for a while. They know my background and that I know what I'm talking about.  We have all taken self-defense classes given by the police, and the three of us get lots of practice at the local indoor shooting range too.  big_smile

Back in the sixties I lived in a community where young girls were being snatched and killed.  The police came to the elementary school and taught us how to use a book corner to hit someone in the stomach to make them let go.  We were told to carry a book home even if we had no homework.  We were also all given a piece of chalk and told to write down the license plate on the sidewalk if we witnessed something - they also taught us to make a sentence out of the plate number. (Ex: 188IOV becomes "for a dollar eighty-eight I Own a Violin.")

Those lessons are still with me - and I turned 50 two days ago!

Yes why not? I once did a self defence course, the idea was to give yourself enough time to escape. However I think I watch too many horror movies where the attacker/slasher lays injured on the floor only to come back at their victim. I say when they are down keep them down and make sure they can't get back up.

As for poking their eyes out, well at least if they did get back up they wouldn't be able to see you!!

Most of us do not realize what we are capable of until it happens.  Someone who says, "No," may be the most violent when actually cornered.  But the opposite is also true.  People who are confident they would fight are sometimes the ones who freeze and cannot fight.  Hopefully you will never have the need to find out.

One reason people should not assume a gun will save them is that they need to be sure they can pull the trigger.  Otherwise, they have armed their assailant.

An idea from before the days of pepper spray:  Young ladies who are insecure - carry hairspray in your purse.  It's easy to explain away and it burns like the dickens when sprayed in the eyes!  (One young woman kept a can in her car for this purpose, but when a man tried to open her car door, she grabbed the can of blue spray paint by mistake!  They had no problem identifying her attacker!)Also a heavy jar of hand cream in the bottom of a purse with a shoulder strap makes a good "attitude adjuster".

Wouldn't it be nice to live in a world where people don't have to be prepared for the worst?
