Writing is just a great means of expressing yourself, but aside from that, what are other things you consider in writing?
at HubPages? to make money.
in my real life i write for a living, so, again, to make money.
then there's the creative aspect of it, which i really enjoy, and i can be free with my words and they don't have to conform to any rules or guidelines as they do when restricted by style conventions and technical rules. that is the kind of writing i love to do most but which unfortunately i have the least time to do.
I like to express myself and help others too. I try to do those things in an interesting and funny way sometimes.
For me, it started out as therapy to get through the death of my husband. From there, it became a mission to share my experience with others to help them through the same thing.
For me writing is not just an expression, it is having a voice! Then through writing I can share experiences and encourage others:)
For me, it's a lot of things:
First, I just enjoy putting the words together. Then there's using writing to earn an income. Although I never know if I manage to achieve this aim, lots of times I want to offer any readers something interesting to think about. If I write about personal experiences it's more that I want to share what I learned from them (in case anyone else is going through something similar), because I figure, "Why let some experience go without being turned into something possibly helpful to someone else?". I write to have a voice, as heart4theword said.
Sometimes I don't care if anyone ever reads what I write. Others time I imagine someone reading and maybe (on the right piece of writing, certainly not all) "getting a little ride". If I really do the kind of writing I enjoy, I enjoy using something as "black and white" and "non-artistic" as words to create something that isn't "black and white" and "concrete", and instead feels like something real or alive.
I this incarnation, I write to practice my typing and to gain a first-hand understanding of the Adsense response mechanism. And maybe to entertain folks a little.
Purpose? Is there supposed to be a purpose? I write becuase I enjoy the creative experience. I write because I am a writer.
I write to keep me from talking Seriously, writing relaxes me
mtsi1098, you may not know how much writing I've done, so my (intended as humorous, and yet true) remark here may not mean much to you, but..
Here's a scary thing: I talk even more than I write.
Write on with a clear conscience, Lisa. My wife talks nonstop yet she writes little more than the grocery lists she tucks into my pocket before sending me off to the supermarket!
Niteriter, I have lots of times when I actually do stop talking AND writing. My thing is my embarrassing tendency to have way, way, too many words coming out those time when I am talking or writing. I'm sick of my own inner and outer voice, so I can only imagine how other people must feel.
Actually, when I joined hubpages, I did so because it was an outlet for my writing - both emotionally and artistically. However, the writing for me is the easy bit. I am learning such a lot from the community and some technical details. It is expanding my knowledge base. Although I feel frustrated and joyous in one heartbeat sometimes, the journey has been challenging and thought provoking. So, for me, the parametres have changed. The writing is the cake and the learning is the baking.
Lisa, as you said in one of your Hubs, "Pondering, after all, tends to run long." You are a ponderer, a type of person I deeply admire. I don't think I'm alone... look at your fan count!
Not at all, shazwellyn; your thoughts are fluid and poetic.
I began writing at age nine so writing is definitely a cultivated habit.By writing, I refuel. For me, writing is an ability- a talent- that I do not want to bury or lose. Thus I use it. Not everybody will admit that they were 'blessed' or benefitted from what I write, but in time, I will reach a level where my true purpose will be revealed to all. In spite of my verbosity, my purpose is to serve God and my fellowmen.Hubpages is like the dressing room.

I love writing! I think writing is a way of expression! I love creative writing, and writing on self-help material in order to help other people!
I love to help others by sharing my strength, experiences and hope that someone may be encouraged or inspired. Many are lost in these most uncertain times. If I can give hope to one I have filled a purpose. I started out hoping to earn income, fast (laugh) That will happen in time.
I have found that writng opens my soul and heart I have learned a great deal about myself. It is a journey and growing adventure. Writing is a passion for me. I never realized landing on hub pages would bring me back to the first love of my life, writing.
Dear Jo Woodward, I was a little suprised at your answer. God did like variety that is for sure. Do you not like to help others in your writing. Is creativity the only reason you write? Does it open up your soul to soul search at all. Curios.
In Love.
God made me as I am and what I am is a writer. I don't write for a reason, I write because putting pen to paper and stringing words together is as necessary to me as eating. My idea of Hell is a place where all the pens are out of ink, all the pencil tips are snapped and there is no such thing as paper.
Do I have a purpose in what I write? No.
Does God have a purpose? I'm sure he does.
The reason I put my writing out in the wide world, on the interwebthingy and in hard copy is so God can do with it what needs to be done.
If my writing has a purpose it is God's and not mine. I'm just an instrument of his work.
(Non believers and others please note, this is a personal statement of my beliefs and thoughts not an invitation to mock, criticise or generally be obnoxious)
Thank you for conern about my soul, we are having a lovely journey through life and my writing is often an expression of that journey.
I hope this answers your questions.
I write because I have to. I am a writer. I am here to write hoping to improve the skill/talent.
When I write. It is not only a personal passion of mine, but I always hope to share it with others, and let them experience what I have to say, because I can express myself a whole lot better in writing then in person. It gives me a chance to escape the everyday stresses, and just relax, and I am able to say anything I like.
thanks guys for your shares, well, I write because I am a little bit shy talking to a crowd and seriously, I am afraid I might not conform to others views. So, the only way out is to voice out my opinions through writing. In this case, I won't be bothered by someone else's counter points, and if it happens that I get negative feedbacks on my writings, atleast nobody sees me. I just give a try
that's a really honest reason, thanks for sharing. it's also a beautiful way to share who you are.
I have written since I was a little girl. I just love language, words, making it all work and fit together. I love the entire craft of writing, it's a wonderful way to communicate and express creativity and to disseminate information.
Writing has help me as well. It saw me through several years of depression. Now I am obsessed with pens, and I always have to have both pen and paper somewhere on my person just in case I get that feeling to pen a few words. When I write the words feel like the words have a rhythm like music. I get an inexplicable feeling when I am writing.
To (hopefully) help others through my own personal experiences. I believe we can learn tons from each other, but somehow many of us have become so disconnected from people in general, that we don't. I sort of think of it like the old days, when neighbors would stop by and sit out on the porch, drinking coffee and chatting.
I love the opportunity to connect with a wide range of people. Global connectivity.Itg's awesome. Hopefully help change someones world for the better.
Writing is like a companion who behaves like a brat sometimes; but mostly is a non-judgmental, expressive and vibrant friend. It is an extension of you and is a construction from your heart, your passions and pure imagination. It can act as a whisper, a gentle touch, a fog horn, a melody, a crash, any emotion, a release, a piece of news, or most anything you can imagine. It constantly conspires for us to better ourselves somehow, via a multitude of vocabularies and forms. It can experience a limitation of language, but its vehicle of imagination is boundless.
For me writing helps my stress levels. It's a lot of fun and I hope that one day my stories will be made into books and shared with others.
I like writing because the feedback is very important for me; be it positive or negative. I can play up on the strong points and work on the weak ones. Writing Sci-Fi and Fiction, it is vital as a guide of sorts.
To pass on knowledge and understanding, and pleasure for the eyes.
I write to share knowledge, for creativity, for money, to communicate and to improve my writing.
Looks like a lot of us share some common ground.
Thanks for asking and sharing!
God bless,
believeinhim
Arranging words appeals to me. Creative expression is a passion. My goal is to entertain and reach someone beyond the vacuum of writing for myself.
I definitely write hubs to hone my skills and to simply put it somewhere.
Getting published is a dream. This place helps me work towards that.
Writing was always a part of my profession but over the past few months it's become an obsession. I haven't figured out why that is, except that I'm enjoying it tremendously. I suppose sharing what's on my mind - my philosophy of life, my humor reaffirms my reason for being - and I like being.
Writing relaxes me and educates me when I'm doing research. I write more than I publish online, simply because I like to write.
writing is a creative outlet for me, i must say i get distracted by communicating with others, rather than getting down to serious writing,,,,, but i am improving i think, and i may one day reach a standard that may earn me some money
- Building a successful blog
- Writing a book about eastern meditation.
Writing helps me learning. Before writing on any topic I need to have considerable amount of knowledge on it-so I read first then write.
Mi purose in riting is to learn tu rite weel aand lurn tu spel buter.
Writing is the least expensive vacation a person can take. Need a change of scenery? Create a world of your own. Need to get something off your chest? Start a journal and get it all down on paper. The possibilities are endless and it's just absolutely fun to do.
For sheer enjoyment ! And because every now and again I feel it Imperative to say something .
Due to the nature of my business as a used car dealer I get a chance to meet and talk to all kinds of people. I am of a nature that it does not matter who I am speaking to, there is something that I could learn from everyone I meet. I end up thinking in my downtime and I have decided to write so that I can get pass along any Knowledge, Truth, or Wisdom that I might come across. I write to empty my head. LOL
I learn when I write and research and that makes me feel more of value to ppl. I also write to empty my head, I mean it's only this big and there's so much stuff to learn. People always told me to write all my life, so one day, I did. Been doing it ever since, about 25 years now. Well there was that one 8 year hiatus.
Interesting reading everyone's driving force behind their talents. Personally, I write to explore & stay sane. Go a little mad if I don't.
I have my dreams. I like writting and I believe I am not good at it at all.
The reason for me to writte is, be able to left something after me. I do a lot of writing on my PC as I try to improve my english everyday. My dream is to make a great book for study english.
As a human I have a heart and soul, so the other reason of my writting is to escape from a pain I feel sometimes in my heart. Life is complicated enough, be able to writte your self out is a great therapy.
I enjoy writing but my main purpose in writing is to put a smile on my readers face, the money is secondary.
Yep... There's always a smile to be had at the way you wiggle your pen BC...
Welcome back BadCo.
Just in time for the Christmas pantomime
Actually - I did miss you. You are one of the most up-front and honest people on the site - and I always respect that.
Cheers Mark, tis appreciated and trust me the respect is mutual !
BC!!!!!!!!! You're back in the forums . That is great news.
To answer the OP (and to avoid getting accused of hi-jacking the thread), I write because it is soooooo different from what I do and because it gives me the chance to write about stuff I don't normally write about .
Well in this brave new technological world how many people have lost the art of communication. Now I know most people take communication as meaning replies to email, facebook, twitter etc. but what about the humble letter.
I was trained as a technical draughtsman and as such had to be very neat and precise in handwriting skills otherwise some of the notes on drawings could be potentially illegible and have issues with understanding what information is being given. Now I like my gadgets as the next person and the mere fact that I writing this reply means I have to use this meadium to get to a wider audience. I days of yore then the published book of newspaper was the only means of gettign your voice heard.
But let's not forget the humble pen and paper, go on, write a letter to your friends and loved ones and whatch there surprise at receiving something that has not been computer generated for a change !
I will have to continue using these hubs of course. LOL
