Top Ten Comedies: 2000

Updated on November 22, 2009

Comedy Movies

The comedy movie is considered one that will make you laugh a little or have you roaring with laughter. Some movies are very funny while others are only merely funny by tradition standards. As I searched for all comedy movies made between the year 2000 and 2009 I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of comedy movies, so I began to search by individual years. I was able to pick out ten best comedy movies for each year. My favorite types of movies in order are comedies, action, and drama's, then horror.

Some of my favorite books are by Dean Koontz and Stephen King. If you enjoy stories as much as I do then you'll most definitely enjoy this series of top ten lists.

My comedy top ten lists cover the following years:

2000

2001

2002

2003

2004

2005

2006

2007

Number Ten

Dude Where’s My Car

When Jesse and Chester wake up they have forgotten all of the events of last night’s events.  It appears they had a wild party but can’t remember.  They both got tattoos and they seemed to have lost their car.  Naturally, the best way to remember what happened is to retrace their steps.  Along the way the meet up with their girlfriends Wilma and Wanda, apparently they trashed their house during their party last night and the girls are angry at them.  The also have a run-in with an angry street gang, a cult of alien seeking fanatics, and a group of aliens in human form.  They find that they like the aliens in human form because they are in the form of a group of hot chicks.  Jesse and Chester is believed to have a special device that could potentially destroy the Earth and everyone is after them to retrieve it.

Number Nine

Meet the Parents

Greg Focker and Pam Byrnes both want to get married but Pam won’t agree to it until Greg meets her parents.  Greg is a male nurse and madly in love with Pam so he agrees to take the trip to meet her parents.  Jack Byrnes, a retired florist/CIA, is an intense man and has Greg on edge the second he meets him.  At the airport Greg receives the wrong suitcase and is actively seeking his suitcase.  Pam’s sister Deborah is getting married and the ceremony is schedule for this weekend.  As Greg attempts to work his way into Pam’s family’s heart he ends up ruining the weekend and Deborah’s wedding.  Kevin comes back and is very intimidating to Greg as he is a doctor and Pam’s ex-boyfriend.  After letting Jack’s cat out of the house and smoking on the roof, he looses the cat and sets fire to the gazebo that Kevin built.  He finds a new cat at the pet shop and paints it to look just like Jack’s cat.  In the end the family discovers Greg’s real name is Gaylord Focker, and Jack makes apologies to Greg.

Number Eight

The Whole 9 Yards

In the Whole 9 Yards we meet Nichols “Oz” Oseransky, a miserable dentist.  Oz and his wife are seeking a divorce but need more money to make this a reality.  They get a new neighbor and believe he is Jimmy “the tulip” Tudeski.  So Oz is convinced by his wife to fly to Chicago and rat out Jimmy to Yanni.  The second Oz gets to the hotel one of Yanni’s men meets him there and interrogates him.  Oz meets Jimmy’s wife and falls in love with her.  Meanwhile, Oz’s wife tells Jimmy where Oz went in the hopes that he will kill Oz and she can cash in on the insurance check.  Jill is Oz’s assistant and is in love with Jimmy, the feeling soon becomes mutual as the pair and Oz battle Yanni and his men.  This movie is one funny double cross after the other.

Number Seven

Bedazzled

Bedazzled is all about Elliot Richards, a hopeless dweeb that is unlucky in love.  One day though, all his dreams are about to come true.  He meets the most beautiful girl he has ever seen and she is the devil.  He gets seven wishes for selling his soul to her, all in the hopes of winning over Allison—his love interest.  Each wish that he wishes gets granted but always in a strange and unexpected way.  From one bad wish to the next, and all of them ending badly for Elliot, he quickly burns through all six of them.  Finally, he becomes fed up and refuses to make his final wish.  The devil, beautifully played by Elizabeth Hurley, gets angry and threatens Elliot.  Through his torture he makes his last wish that will condemn him to everlasting Hell.

Number Six

Josh and Tiffany are High School sweethearts who swear to stay together through college.  This is all fine and dandy until they discover they are going to different colleges.  Away from Tiffany at his own college Josh continuously thinks of Tiffany but begins to think that she is cheating on him.  He makes her a video where he professes his undying love, and then he goes to a party.  At the party he meets Beth, played by the always stunning Amy Smart.  He ends up sleeping with her and taping it.  The next day he goes to show his friends Beth but instead watches his video to Tiffany.  After a frantic search for the tape he discovers it was already sent to Tiffany.  So he and his four friends take a road trip to hopefully get to Tiffany’s college in time.  Josh, E.L, and Rubin convince Kyle to borrow his car, but Kyle wants to go.  So they all four begin their road trip to save Josh.  Along the way Kyle’s car get destroyed when they jump it across a river, and later on Kyle gets lucky with a BBW.  Josh makes it to the college in time but ends up breaking up with her anyway.  He has a final so they rush back to the college in order to get back in time and does.  He makes it in time only because Beth pulled a fire alarm for him.  He falls in love with her because of this.

Number Five

Scary Movie

Scary Movie is a spoof of nineties teen horror movies Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.  In a small town a local girl is killed by a masked killer, and Cindy becomes worried that it is related to their killing of a fisherman exactly one year previously.  Cindy and Bobby are dating and begin to get suspicious of everyone, but not everyone believes Cindy is right about the murders.  Pretty soon Cindy’s friends start getting killed with Greg being the first one.  Greg’s girlfriend is next, then Brenda’s boyfriend at the movie theatre.  The way he supposedly dies is fitting to what he portrays throughout the movie.  Brenda is just like the most annoying people at theatres.  She talks all through the movie and annoys the hell out of everyone there.  So they steal the weapon from the killer and kill her themselves.  At Cindy’s party she and Bobby finally have sex, which ends in a hilarious climatic event.  Eventually, they discover who the real killer is but too late it appears.

Number Four

Shanghai Noon

Jackie Chan plays Palace guard Chon Wang.  Chon is responsible for the safety of imperial princess Pei Pei.  When she goes missing one night Chon blames himself, and volunteers to go retrieve her.  So he and two other guards head to the American west to find her.  Along the way Chon meets a small time thief with visions of grandeur, Roy O’Bannon.  Chon and Roy join forces to capture the Chinese traitor that kidnapped Pei Pei with plenty of misadventures along the way.  Chon ends up getting attacked by Indians and beats them all up.  He also ends up getting married to the chief’s daughter.  Roy, who continuously calls Pei Pei “Pee Pee,” gets his grandeur in a final showdown at the end of the movie.

Number Three

What Women Want

What Women Want is a hilarious movie that shows what women what, what men think women want, and how different those two are.  Nick Marshall is a chauvinistic executive who thinks he is God’s gift to women.  The thing is all the women are all so nice to him that he knows no different.  One night Nick decides to try out some women’s products and slips.  He slips into a tub that has water in it and is electrocuted when a hair dryer falls in too.  When he comes around he doesn’t feel any differently so he goes about his business. He soon discovers his new ability when a woman thinks something and Nick questions her about it.  He can now hear what women are thinking.  Nick thinks about how great this could be and uses it to his advantage, then he meets Darcy.  Darcy is a new edition to the company he works for and she doesn’t think to highly of him.  Nick is intrigued by this woman so he pursues her and ends up falling for her.

Number Two

Little Nicky

Every ten thousand years Hell gets a new ruler.  This is the ten thousandth year and Satan has three sons to choose from, Adrian, Cassius, and Nicky.  Adrian is sadistic and would not make a good ruler, Cassius is dead set on running torture 24-7, and Nicky is a little weaker than the two of them but holds a balance between good and evil.  The devil chooses instead to remain on the throne for another ten thousand years, which incidentally makes Adrian and Cassius upset so they plan on going to Earth and creating a new hell there.  By leaving Hell through the fire gate they freeze it shut so no new souls can get through, which causes Satan to start deteriorating.  Nicky is the only one that can return his brothers back into Hell but he must bring them back at the same time.  As Nicky learns the ropes on Earth he is often sent back into Hell by being killed, and he meets a girl that he falls in love with.  When he saves the life of Valery he and Adrian are smashed by a train.  Adrian goes to Hell and Nicky goes to Heaven.  While in Heaven Nicky meets his mother, played by smoking hot Reese Witherspoon.  Adrian takes the throne of Hell and has a showdown with Nicky.

Number One

Me, Myself, and Irene

Me, Myself, and Irene is a movie about Rhode Island State Police officer Charlie.  Charlie was an up and coming trooper.  Charlie married Leila and right after the wedding Leila fell in love with the limo driver.  She gave birth to triplets Jamal, Lee Harvey, and Shawntee Jr.; all three are the offspring of the limo driver.  After about five years Leila leaves Charlie for the limo driver, and Charlie bottles it all up inside.  After about twelve years of being the nice guy, Charlie has enough and Hank takes over.  Hank run amok in the town by embarrassing a woman at the grocery store, half drowning a little girl, breast feeding from a woman with plenty to offer, and crashing a car into the barbershop.  Later on Charlie is diagnosed with schizophrenia and is ordered to take some pills that give Charlie extreme cotton mouth.  Soon Charlie is given the task of escorting Irene to upstate New York, but her troubles are worse than Charlie is told.  After Irene was attacked at her hotel room and the federal agents are killed she seeks Charlie’s assistance.  He gladly assists her but in their haste to leave he forgets his medication that controls his schizophrenia.  Now it’s a battle between Charlie, Hank, and the police that are following him.  In the end Charlie has to learn how to control Hank and remerge both sides of his personality into one complete personality again.
