Top Ten Comedies: 2001

Updated on November 22, 2009

The comedy movie is considered one that will make you laugh a little or have you roaring with laughter. Some movies are very funny while others are only merely funny by tradition standards. As I searched for all comedy movies made between the year 2000 and 2009 I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of comedy movies, so I began to search by individual years. I was able to pick out ten best comedy movies for each year. My favorite types of movies in order are comedies, action, and drama's, then horror.

Some of my favorite books are by Dean Koontz and Stephen King. If you enjoy stories as much as I do then you'll most definitely enjoy this series of top ten lists.

My comedy top ten lists cover the following years:

Number Ten

Not Another Teen Movie

Not Another Teen Movie is 2001’s spoof of all the recent teen movies of the nineties.  At John Hughes High School, all of the students are the just the same as every other teenager in a teen movie. Jake is a popular jock and he takes a bet from Austin, the cocky blonde guy. The bet is that he can transform Janey (the pretty ugly girl) into the prom queen before the prom.  Jake is hindered by his evil sister, Catherine, the cruelest girl in school, and Priscilla, the bitchy cheerleader from succeeding.  All of their friends are the same as any other teen movie: Areola is the naked foreign exchange student, Les is the beautiful weirdo, Malik plays the token black guy, the desperate virgins, Amanda Becker is the perfect girl, Ricky is Janey's obsessed best friend, and Sadie is the VERY old undercover reporter.  This movie is just a fun movie and will get you laughing at the expense of some other serious teen movies.

Number Nine

Legally Blonde

Elle Woods is the president of her sorority at the college she attends.  She is a fashion major and is dating the handsomest guy at college, Warner Huntington III.  Warner is a political hopeful and makes plans to become a senator.   Before graduation of college Warner breaks it off with Elle as he prepares for Harvard law school.  Elle is saddened by the breakup but vows to win him back so she starts to prepare for the law school entrance exams.  She passes and soon is selected to attend Harvard law where she meets up with Warner again.  Warner has rekindled a relationship with Vivian his girlfriend from prep school.  After attempts to win Warner back fail, she wants to quit but her teacher won’t let her.  She meets Emmett in the process and is quickly requested to be on a trial.  The trial is that of a fellow sorority sister, Brooke Taylor Windham, who was arrested for the supposed murder of her husband.  Elle goes on to prove to herself and everyone else that she has a lot to offer to the law community.

Number Eight

Rush Hour 2

Rush Hour 2 starts off where the first one left off.  Inspector Lee and detective James Carter are in Hong Kong, China.  Carter is trying to enjoy some vacation time while Inspector Lee is working cases.  When Lee gets a call from his director about a case, he decides to take it.  Lee and Carter start off the case going to a club that is frequented by the Triads.  Carter gets disgusted at a Chinese man’s singing and decides to take to the stage.  Later Carter takes Lee to a massage parlor where Carter hires the services of four ladies plus one for Lee.  They see Ricky Tan there and Lee goes to call for backup.  Carter decides to help out Lee by confronting Tan and the two get into a huge fight.  Next, Lee and Carter follow Tan to a yacht, and then to America.  They wind up in Las Vegas at the Red Dragon casino, where they find Tan.  A U.S. secret service agent enlists the help of Lee and Carter in her case.  Carter is smitten with the agent as she wears Victoria Secret…spring issue, page 27, to be precise.  Together Carter and Lee, with the help of the secret service work to solve the case of the missing mint plates.

Number Seven

Joe Dirt

Joe Dirt was abandoned at the Grand Canyon when he was 10 years old.  After making his way around he finally arrives in the people’s republic of Idaho where he meets Brandy.  Brandy is a beautiful girl that likes Joe but has a boyfriend, Robby who torments Joe throughout his time there.  He soon leaves Idaho and Brandy to search for his parents.  On his journey he works as a janitor, a carny, and at an oil rig.  Along the way at these different jobs he meets some good people.  Clem is an old mafia man that is still madly in love with his deceased wife and likes to stab people in the face with a soldering iron, and Kicking Wing sells fireworks.  He sells sparklers and those carbon snakes only though and Joe teaches him to sell the good stuff.  While working at the carnival he meets Jill and finds out that she may be his sister, but does that stop him? No.  He also finds an asteroid that contains “space peanuts”, and an old nuke he straps onto his back to retrieve records.

Number Six

Shallow Hal

Shallow Hal takes us into the world of inner beauty.  When Hal is stuck in an elevator with Tony Robbins he complains about his dating life.  Tony gives Hal the gift of sight saying he can have any girl he wants.  It seems now that everything is going good for Hal.  All of the hot chicks are hitting on him and he is living it up, then he meets Rosemary.  Rosemary is his boss’s daughter but Hal is initially unaware of this.  He sees a beautiful thin girl instead of the very robust woman that she really is.  His friend Maurice doesn’t like the fact that Hal is gallivanting around with ugly women so he finds Tony and reverses the hypnosis he put on Hal.   Hal experiences a period of self discovery.  Now Hal needs to discover what really matters in life, appearance or personality, inner beauty or physical beauty.

Number Five

The Animal

Marvin wants to be a cop more than anything.  He has taken but failed the entrance test three times though.  He is so desperate that he buys badger milk and starts drinking it.  Unfortunately one night he gets into a terrible crash and is treated by an odd scientist.  The odd scientist fixes Marvin by putting all kinds of animal organs in him.  Before too long he starts to take on the traits of these animals and quickly becomes a hero with the local police department.  He is a hero in everyone’s eyes except for Sgt Sisk.  Soon the police discover that he is the criminal that has been killed livestock and they start to pursue him.  In the end he discovers the secret his new girlfriend is keeping from him and she discovers the secret he has been keeping from her.

Number Four

Scary Movie 2

Scary Movie 2 takes over from the first film exactly one year after the events of the first film.  This time Cindy is at college with Shorty, Ray, and Brenda.  I don’t really know how Brenda made it to this one because she was killed in the first movie.  There is a house that is possessed by a poltergeist and a professor is conducting experiments.  He selects the group of four plus three others to go to the house and stay for the weekend.  The professor is assisted by a guy in a wheelchair that refuses any and all help.  The caretaker is also crippled and the two are always fighting each other.  Cindy strikes an amazing resemblance to the poltergeists wife so he pursues Cindy.  There are a ton of funny events that take place while the kids are inside the house, and this is a good movie to watch for a laugh.

Number Three

Out Cold

Bull Mountain, Alaska, is a no frills ski resort, and the staff is a bunch of partying snowboard bums.  Papa Muntz is the late owner and founder on the resort and was famed for skiing with his backside exposed.  He is memorialized by a statue in this state.  His son Ted inherited the resort but plans to sell it to a hotshot ski mogul, John Majors. Majors wants to turn it into a slick resort, which of course has no room for most of the staff. Except for Rick who is the most serious of the bunch.   Rick has a crush on Majors’ stepdaughter that he met in Mexico, but she is engaged to get married to a great guy and Rick doesn’t want her to, and he is very loyal to his friends.  In one scene they have a drunken guy that is passed out in his car, and his friends find him. So the friends decide to start spinning the car in circles.  Once they get it going fast enough, they all start screaming wildly, which wakes him up and scares the hell out of him.

Number Two

Head Over Heels

Amanda is attracted to Jim when she meets him in the street.  She moves in an apartment with four models and discovers that she lives across the street from Jim.  One night she is spying on him and sees him commit an act that she portrays as murder.  She is still attracted to him though.  By the urging of the models she pretty much starts to stalk Jim and even follows him into the bathroom.  This would have to be my favorite scene in the entire movie.  I was laughing so hard at this scene that my stomach started hurting.  Eventually she learns who he really is and they fall in love with each other.

Number One

Super Troopers

Super Troopers is the funniest movie I had seen in a long time.  Yes it is eight years old but it still makes me laugh.  The opening scene brings the troopers to pull over a car of pot smoking teens on their way to Canada.  The super troopers mess with the kids and then pull them into a high speed chase.  In the first five minutes of this movie I was laughing so hard a tear squeezed out of my eye.  The rest of the movie is just as funny as we follow the band of officers on their mission to solve a crime.  It appears there has been a murder on the highway.  The state troopers and the local cops clash as they try to best each other and save their department.  What the highway cops figure out is that there are drugs being run through their town on their highways.

Suzie, thanks for visiting. The rundown is actually an action movie to which you can find at top ten action movies from 2000-2009. And Night at the museum is on the top ten list for the year it was made which is 2006.

Thank you PL, I did spend a lot of time working on this series of hubs, action, dramas, horror, and ten years of comedy movies. I appreciate you reading these and thank you for commenting. I would be even more honored if you read "Lay Me Down". It is a sad hub, so be warned.
