Top Ten Comedies: 2005

Updated on August 22, 2010

The comedy movie is considered one that will make you laugh a little or have you roaring with laughter. Some movies are very funny while others are only merely funny by tradition standards. As I searched for all comedy movies made between the year 2000 and 2009 I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of comedy movies, so I began to search by individual years. I was able to pick out ten best comedy movies for each year. My favorite types of movies in order are comedies, action, and drama's, then horror.

Some of my favorite books are by Dean Koontz and Stephen King. If you enjoy stories as much as I do then you'll most definitely enjoy this series of top ten lists.

My comedy top ten lists cover the following years:

2000

2001

2002

2003

2004

2005

2006

2007

2008

2009

Number Ten

Sky High

Sky High is a comedy about a superhero high school in the sky.  The high school is called Sky High and for the Commander and Jet Stream’s son Will, it is a place he dreads going because he hasn’t gotten his superpowers yet.  He faces off with his arch nemesis and gets his superpowers.  He starts to date the most beautiful girl at the school, incidentally a senior and she sets him up.  She is the one and only Royal Pain, and is determined to turn all super power people into babies so she can turn them into villains.  Will learns of this too late and fights to save the school and his parents.

Number Nine

Bewitched

Bewitched takes a new look at the original series.  This time around though, it is for a television remake of the popular 60’s series.  Jack Wyatt is a struggling actor that sees this as an opportunity to reinvent his career.  When he sees Isabel Bigelow he instantly falls in love with her and her nose and has her cast as Samantha.  He soon discovers that she is a real witch and is freaked out about it.  Isabel thinks that Jack is the perfect mortal for her to settle down with.

Number Eight

Fun with Dick and Jane

Dick and Jane Harper are living the good life.  They have a beautiful house and all the finer luxuries.  Dick gets a promotion so Jane decides to quit her job.  Unfortunately Dick also looses his job a little later on when the corporation he works for goes belly up.  With the house foreclosed on and no more money Dick and Jane take to a life of crime with hilarious antics all throughout the movie.  Dick then vows to get what is his back from his old boss Jack.

Number Seven

The Longest Yard

Football superstar Paul “Wrecking” Crewe gets arrested for drunk driving and is sent to prison.  Warden Hazen has specifically requested Crewe gets sent to his prison.  The warden then tells Crewe to assemble a football team.  At first he is having a hard time assembling the football team until they learn who they will be playing against.  The game is one that the guards usually win but this time around Crewe has changed the stakes.  They are winning but the warden doesn’t like it and blackmails Crewe into throwing the game.

Number Six

Just Friends

Just Friends is the story of Chris Brander.  Chris has been friends with Jaime for many years.  Chris was rejected by Jaime years ago and has now become a womanizer and a music manager.  When his plane crashes he goes back home with his singer Samantha.  He meets back up with Jaime and wants to try again to be more than Just Friends.  Jaime sees the changes in Chris but is not impressed.  She still wants to be Just Friends.

Number Five

Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalo

Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalo is the sequel to the 1999 smash hit.  This time we follow Deuce to Europe as he becomes a new gigalo there.  There seems to be a person hunting down and killing all the gigalo’s so it is up to Deuce to find the murderer.  Deuce believes the killer is one of the normal escortee’s so he takes them all on some dates to find out which one it is.  This movie is just as funny as the original with a few new tricks.

Number Four

The Pacifier

The Pacifier is all about a disgraced Navy SEAL who is assigned to protect the family of a government scientist.  Shane Wolfe was assigned to protect the scientist but failed and he was killed, so Shane promises to look after his family.  Being a Navy SEAL, Shane believes he can do anything but learns that babysitting is harder than anything he has ever done.  By the end of the movie he connects with the kids and saves them from the group that is trying to get their hands on the scientists experiment.

Number Three

Wedding Crashers

John and Jeremy are a team of divorce mediators who don’t believe in marriage.  So they go to weddings to pick up on women at the weddings.    When they get to one of the weddings they come across a level one clinger.  Jeremy begs John to go because a level one clinger is cause to leave according to the rules of wedding crashing.  John doesn’t want to leave because he is intrigued by a woman at the wedding and end up being invited to their house.  Jeremy’s clinger runs him through the mill and John’s love interest pits him against her boyfriend for attention.  All in all, this movie is a fantastic satirical look at the fallacies of dating.

Number Two

Waiting

Waiting is a look inside the lives of the wait staff at Shenanigans restaurant.  Ryan Reynolds leads this cast and is the trainer for a new waiter at the restaurant.  He goes through and explains the rules of the “game” to him.  The game includes such classics as “the brain” and “the bat wing”.  Later on in the movie a woman is heinous and harasses the waitress to which Ryan Reynolds character “takes care of it”.  This movie shows us why you never mess with people that serve you food.  Plus I love the angry chick in this movie, she is constantly making me laugh throughout the movie.

Number One

40 Year Old Virgin

40 Year Old Virgin takes us into the life of Andy. Andy has failed with women and has taken to not even talking to them. He is invited to play poker with some guys at work. At the poker game they find out that he is a virgin and set out to help him score. Each guy tells Andy what he needs to do in order to get lucky. One takes him to a bar to pick up drunken chicks that ends with a little bit of vomit. One convinces Andy to get his chest waxed…geez this is so funny when they do that. In the meantime Andy meets Trish, a store owner that doesn’t sell anything in the store. They fall in love and start dating but promise to cut out the physical stuff until the 20th date.

Thank you for reading and enjoying my picks. I also agree with you about waiting, but still waiting kinda sucks.

Great hub! The trailor for 'Waiting' simply doesn't do this movie justice! My favorite character of this movie is the manager played by David Koechner (Anchorman, Semi Pro). If you have ever been in the food service industry, this is a must see!

Just Friends and Wedding Crashers are also two of my favorites, great list! Voted up!

Dohn: Absolutely, the whole chest waxing scene had me rolling in uproarious laughter. I also thoroughly enjoyed wedding crashers. I also help that my work pays off.

Okay, I don't know anyone that hasn't seen "40-Year old Virgin." That's was one of the funniest movies I've seen this decade and mind you, I've seen a lot of them! "Wedding Crashers" hilarious, of course. Thanks, Wes. I hope your hard work "pays" off!
