When I was in high school, the expansion for World of Warcraft, Burning Crusade was released. I stayed up for 7 days without sleep...it was pretty insane. Most people can't go one day, but red bulls+monster can defy that. I am also thinking of trying it again and blogging about everyday I stay awake.
Anyone else?
Wow, that was quite a feat, how much did you have to sleep to recover from all that?
There's an Italian family where the carriers of a certain gene die of insomnia. It gets worse and worse as they get older. Takes about 9 months of total sleeplessness before death.
That sounds like a really terrible disease, never heard of that before, how awful.
I have never gone without sleep for more than 1 night, couldn't last any longer than that.
Yes, its really awful and a terrible way to go - perhaps one of the worst ways to die! I believe the correct medical term for this is fatal familial insomnia!!
I guess it just goes to show how important sleep really is to one's health and why one should get a good night's sleep!!
wow eltravose, i can go maybe 2 days without sleep but not 7, i know you crashed afterwards and stayed sleep for awhile after that, lol..
Yeah I think I made it to seven days myself once...but after five i start losing count.
I know you get too busy watching your pot plants moving ROFL!!!
Sounds like me a decade ago when I played the original Everquest and was powerleveling like a madman. I didn't go a week without sleep, but I slept only 2-3 hours per night.
The longest I stayed up straight I think is about 50-60 hours, I don't think I've done more than that.
dear me, do not do it. sleep is an essential brain activity.
Well, I'm like most people then. But I'm sure red bull+monster could be pretty hard stuff to ignore.
7 days of non stop partying around my previous marriage, all day and night, nearly missed the wedding (wished I had) spent one hour sleeping on the floor of my living room on my wedding night....
That proves that the right motivation does wonders but what about right causes? For me one night without sleep completely was the most I could survive. Cause: exams, sick child, death in the family, travel. Next day I simply have to catch up.
I nearly dropped dead with fatigue lol. I fell asleep in the shower with my butt on the shower drain, the water flooded my upper floor town house seeped down through the ceiling and smashed the glass lights below as well as setting off the fire alarms.
BP you should know that anytime you, a shower, and your butt are in the same room, fire alarms are sure to go off.
By the way, where exactly is this shower, I think I can find a better place for you to land your butt. But that probably won't help with the ceiling. With both of us in the shower...the whole place will probably fall in.
It is in Australia LMAO and darn I don't live there anymore. Why the real estate made that decision I will never know.
No still here just got evicted from that particular town house that's all LMAO. I will return straight after brekkie. Talk to you real soon. Hold that thought lol.
Good morning to you too, say I think I found a place where blonds are selling coffee online. Would that be you my dear?
I don't know for sure, I was too busy looking at their cups.
Good question. We all want to know. Looks like she survived to tell the tale.
About 2 minutes, unfortunately that's how long I last...nah only joking around 3 days and I ruined the bed springs!....uh we are talking about sleep right?
I know I suffer from a form of insomnia that can literally keep me up for days! I think the longest I've actually gone without sleep was 3 1/2 days then I just had to break down and take a sleeping pill. And it was crazy, I was tired, my body wore out but it seemed like my mind wouldn't let me sleep!
43 hours on a bulldozer and Mack truck moving a drilling rig in and out of mud through swamp, snakes, panthers and bears; with much help of Black Beauty and coffee/Black Velvet of course, way back when.
About two weeks. I don't recommend it. Required a little more than red bull..
I tend to span my sleep deprivation over the whole week, surviving on 3-5 hours of sleep per night.. its more fun that way (sarcastic smile)
during medical internship, had to work 36 hrs straight twice a week for a year. fell asleep standing up, woke as i was falling over. fell asleep driving, totalled a nurse's car.
later in life went 5 days with insomnia. felt irritable and numb at the same time. meds helped end that unpleasant stretch.
i am 21, i don't sleep at night since i was 13.i use to walk at the street or pass my time in internet. i sleep a bit at daytime thought not much as i have my classes in the university.
Finally, another fellow human being who doesn't sleep. Why does everyone tell us that we have to sleep? I sleep for a maximum of 3 hours -- more like a light nap and I'm charged and ready to go.
people just go crazy when they come to know we don't sleep. Even i was thought to be a mental patient and taken to a mental doctor.
I really wish I had that ability, you really end up doing so much more. I on the other hand require at least 7 or I end up grouchy. As you can tell on some of my posts.
I think the longest I have gone without sleep is about 3 1/2-4 days...don't remember exactly. I started seeing stuff, it got really weird. Then I fell asleep in church. I have never gotten very much sleep, though. About 3-4 hours a night. Sometimes a nap here and there.
About 4 days without any sleep.
To say I was off my head is an understatement. All I remember is how funny everything was. Lack of sleep = hysterical laughing.
When I was younger I went years on 3-4 hours sleep a night. Now I still have difficulty getting to sleep, don't sleep until wee hours or sometimes when the sun is coming up but once I do finally close my eyes I can usually manage 6-7 hours.
My ability to sleep seems to be getting better as I get older, can't imagine those poor people who die from insomnia as they age.
Yikes!
Funny that I posted on this topic last night. I could not sleep at all last night. Have to head to work on no sleep. So, as of right now, it's 24 hours with no sleep, and about 10 hours before I can even think about sleeping.
wow, 7 days without sleep sounds too much... as for my experience, i've used to be an auditor.. and we always have to work overtime especially on busy tax seasons. we often stay awake late everyday for 3 to 4 months. but i occassionally take naps in between.
Every year it happens, at least 2-3 days depending on how long the "Twilight Zone" marathon lasts. I love watching the marathon. They usually do this once or twice a year. I have done this ever since I was about 19. I have made it my tradition. I look like a total nut case those two days but who cares! LOL
Back when I was the lead singer for Randy Godwin's rock band, we'd go for 2 or 3 days without sleep sometimes when we were on the road. Randy played lead guitar, BTW.
I've done a few long bursts on minimal amounts of sleep but the longest I've gone without actually sleeping has been 56 hours!
I think the longest I have been awake is 4 days. I took a trip to Toronto with a friend, and he insisted on sleeping in the car or at bath-houses while we were there. Neither of us could afford a hotel, so we slept in the car for one night and spent 2 nights at the bath houses, I did not get any sleep the whole time. I did a lot of no-doze and drink lots of Coffee and pop.
My friend slept all the way there, and a good portion of the way back. I think he probably drove about 60 miles of the trip on the way home. It's 6 hours there and 6 hours back. I drove most of it.
We went Canada's Wonderland 2 of those days, and we also went to gay pride, which was quite an awesome experience. Nothing like being at an all gay event with 2 million people. So, a lot of my nights awake weren't wasted.
brim nice try but it was 8 days and you ate me out of house and home. You owe me groceries still [as lyrics desperately tries to make that sound not naughty to avoid another ban]
But it was a pleasure that you visited!
I've done 48 hours straight then zonked out for 10 hours.
I think that the longest I've gone without sleep was twenty-six hours. It was a grueling moment in my life. The tiredness seemed to make everything drag on. The funny part is, is that I did it on a dare, because someone said that I wouldn't be able to stay up for longer than twenty-four hours.
I think that Harvard did a sleep study on this. They had subjects stay up for excessive amounts of time and they would monitor them. It turns out that after seventy-two hours the body starts to shut down to protect the brain from damage. I forget all of the details but, it has something to do with the amount of toxins in the body.

What's the longest you've ever stayed awake without sleeping?I'm going to say two days at a rough guess, not that I could remember much by the end of it...Bonus query- I've asked a couple of questions out of curiosity rather than for other reasons but I noticed in my stats a reference to...

I am close to getting a job where I will be working overtime almost every day, even during the slow season. I have been told that I would be working 11-13 hour shifts during the Summer. Major overtime! What's your job like?
