No, and I would check with each parks website for warnings and areas to stay away from.

I went to Yosemite last year and a bear broke into my car.  FOR A SODA!!!  The soda can was closed, by the way.  I removed anything good and smelly, but forgot about the visual clues they are keen to.
Lotsa broken glass, but not too much damage.

Wow, Lorlie, can't believe the bears can recognize soda by the colors. They know humans too well.

Most bears don't like to bother humans, having said that, make sure you read up on how not to attract bears by leaving food uncovered.

The nat'l parks are beautiful...I wouldn't let bears keep me away....just make sure you 'bear proof' your camp ....meaning securing your garbage, food and not bringing your clothes you wore to cook in, into your tent when you sleep....basically keep the food smells away from you.  And if possible camp further away from other campsites in case those campers aren't taking precautions.  It's easy to take precautions and not worry about bears.  Depending on the state, they are around...but they typically do not stalk people but are attracted to food/garbage of course.  Those parks are amazing and of course there are different animals (and reptiles) depending on which state you are in.  I've camped around grizzlies without a problem and been around lots of black bears...so i guess I don't worry about it so much because I've learned how to stay safe....it's their territory.

It IS their territory, and what we need to realize is that if we want to enjoy the Nat'l Parks, we must be aware that they're not stupid!!!

They're in my ex-sister-in-law's yard pretty much nightly. When people go home and park in the driveway at night, there's often a bear that will hide behind a tree.  It's a real issue where there live (Western Mass).  I'd have to move!   lol

I've been camping and hiking my whole life throughout the Western parks, and have yet to see a bear in a campground, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Bear proofing carefully is your best bet to avoid them. Picking up a cannister or two of bear spray may also make you feel safer.

This website is a good resource for learning more about bear proofing and bear safety: http://www.bearsmart.com/

I never see bears, just the odd sparrow.

I do live in the UK though, we are well tame over here  . . .

There are a lot of black bears in Ontario. Two years ago, I was in a provincial park and took some photos, except I was not camping.
