Whatever this 'god thing" is, it certainly does have a sense of humor! Just look at us and tell me we're not something to laugh at!
Golly! The "good book" says "it," this god thing, made us in "its" image! Like father, like son! A-chip-off-the-old-block!
Do ya think that just before "it" tosses ya into the pit-of-fire, "it" cradles ya lovingly close to "its" chest and whispers softly into your ear: "I love you so much!" Then squints "its" eyes and frowns, creating great furrows on "its" massive brow! "It" freezes you in "its" stoney gaze and bellows mightily so that "its" voice echoes across an endless abyss of raging flame and glowing charcoal! "Thou hast forsaken me! Thou has not bowed before my divine presence! Thou hast, against my command, SINNED and blasphemed your "daddy!" I cannot forgive such tyranny of thought and action against yo "Daddy!" Love you as I do, I MUST remand you to hell to suffer the pain and agony of burning for eternity.
May your charred remains be, forever, a reminder to all, whom I have created in my image, of my need  to be praised, worshipped and obeyed!"
"It" kisses you on the forehead, opens "its" mighty arms and lets you fall into a chasm of molten magma and flame.
"it" can be heard muttering to itself as "it" 'floats" away: I so loved that child, I so loved that child, I so loved that child..........
This biblical god thing does have a sense of humor! So do I! ROTFLMAO!

I found out I have a sense of humour. But that all stopped when I found out I was funny.

Did you ever consider that the one who told you you were funny was just funnin' you. Dont let the world rob you of your sense of homor. Humor is the only thing that takes full advantage of real stupidity. Alot of people serve no other purpose than providing the rest of us with entertainment. I do wish that the people weren't allowed to vote. Stupid is as Stupid Does, is no way to elect government officials.

As a minister I always look for opportunities to incorporate a touch or two of light-heartedness in my sermons and interactions.  God created us in His image.  This tells me that He also has a sense of humor.  It's true that humor can be twisted into something perverted however there are plenty of situations where humor is of good report and praiseworthy.  A good joke now and then wakes people up. smile

Yes God has a sense of humor and so do I. smile I love good clean humor and I praise God for it big_smile. Some individuals in the forums twist humor in a perverted way against God.

well it is between person and god..it is personal relationship and one must not interfere...i may make fun of god who are we to interfere?

  4. kirstenblog profile image78
    kirstenblogposted 13 years ago

Besides 'good clean humor' isn't really funny, its like a joke from a 5 year old, trying to hard to be funny and falling flat.  The point is, a joke is a joke, not to be taken seriously.

    1. Shadesbreath profile image76
Shadesbreathposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I disagree.  I think that humor can be "clean" in that, genuine humor is wit at work capturing an absurdity, an irony or a counter-intuitive in just the right way.  It's the ability to find the exact right seam in the confines of tension that lets the pressure out. That does not require a "dirty" mechanism.

        Agreed.

Hey Shades, "clean" or "dirty" is completely subjective to oneself. wink tongue

        1. Shadesbreath profile image76
Shadesbreathposted 13 years agoin reply to this

That's very true.  I've seen people get chewed out by prudish types for "swearing" because they said, "Damn."  lol.  So, yeah, you are right, "dirty" can be almost anything depending on how sensitive/hyper-sensitive a person is.

I tend not to care so much about the language of humor as I do the intent.  If it's clever, it's clever.  Hiding from some elements of human experience because they make you uncomfortable doesn't remove them from existence.  I've never understood the hide-your-head-in-the-sand crowd. How is the illusion of a rated-G world comforting when you know it's an illusion by the very nature of your insistence that certain things never be brought up?

"Hey Joe, there's a rattle snake under your bed."
"Yes, let's not talk about that, I'm sleepy."

This can be true with a truly witty comedian, not so easy for a 'non-comedian' if you will.

    2. nell79 profile image78
nell79posted 13 years agoin reply to this

Some of the best humor comes from 5 year olds because they are truly the most honest in their views of the world, but are limited in their ability to say it. Some of my biggest laughs have come from something my kids have said or done.

But anyway, to the point of this question, which was obviously asked to draw attention and controversy (hey, it works, right?). Not all believers have a good sense of humor, just as not all non-believers do. You run the risk of reverse prejudice by grouping everyone into two categories like that.

Is dirty humor fun? It can be for a lot of people. Why? Mostly because of the sense of the forbidden when you engage in it. Much of its appeal is the whole shock factor. Is clean humor fun?  If you had asked me this years ago, I'd have probably said no. But you learn and you grow (if you're lucky) and are able to appreciate other types of things in life (including different kinds of humor). One of my favorites has always been satire--which I've seen done well by believers and non-believers alike.

      Anyway, there's my two cents

How do you know God has a sense of humor?

    1. Stump Parrish profile image60

Man created god in his image. Man has a sense of humor. This leads me to believe that any conversations about god are best entered into in a state of total drunkeness. Wont make the conversation any more intelligent but it does allow me to ignore the thoughts of the non-thinkers who think they know it all. What do you think?

Awww so...are you drunk? Wheres my drink?  Wasn't it god made man in his image? If so, because none of us are quite like the other, what would the image of god be if we are all in the image of god? That makes me laugh

My normal face is something most comedians wish they were born with. And I once made the mistake of using a mirror and the face I made that you were refering to caused me to have mercy on my ex and ask for a divorce. I don't know how she managed to endure this face 3 times a day for 10 years.

Now that was funny. You see most christians operate from the assumption that as an atheist, I am the baby eating spawn of the devil. This mindset doesn't allow for very much honest and open discussions now does it?

    2. kirstenblog profile image78

I only comment on what I see. These forums get way to serious and folks get all riled up and it is really all a complete joke, no one is going to change their minds or beliefs about religion or politics no mater how well we argue our side.

      1. Flightkeeper profile image67
Flightkeeperposted 13 years agoin reply to this

It is a complete joke but it's telling that you only see the true believers not having a sense of humor.

        1. Stump Parrish profile image60
Stump Parrishposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I love all kinds of jokes, polittically incorrect ones, jokes that are derogatory to a wide variety of cultures, I like off collor jokes and would probably enjoy an on color joke if I could figure out what one sounds like. I adore jokes about me and will make fun of me at my own expense for a laugh. Now if as the christians believe, we were made in god's image, I would venture to guess that she enjoys a good joke at her expense. I wonder if god ever let's her burka down and cuts loose on the stand up comedy club in heaven?

Yeah, that's why I thought this thread was a non-starter.  It already started with a negative attitude towards a group of people based on her own perception, how are you supposed to discuss that and get anywhere?

If you have a closer look at my OP and thread title you might notice I did not mention Christians but instead referred to 'true believers'. There is a difference. I even went so far as to put the term true believers in these little half quote thingies '  ' <-- those thingies.
