Interesting. The official word is that since William is not an heir to the throne, the wedding is not a state event. Therefore invitations to heads of state are NOT required. However Obama has made some odd comments and gestures towards the UK and the Palace during his presidency. Your thoughts?

Not a snub, they just alreay have iPods...my guess is they are only inviting guest who will go all out on the gifts.

Hi, CJ. I don't really know enough about UK royalty and related events and protocol to comment intelligently.

Apparently most world leaders have fragile egos, which also apparently come from the press telling them how to feel about these things.

        Very, very odd marriage.

Probably true. I know that most world leaders have big egos. Most timid people don't seek positions of power.

I think that how much this wedding is going to cost is a big deal here in the UK at the moment, and as William is not the immediate heir it is not a formal state occasion. Probably inviting the Obamas would be hugely expesnive in terms of security etc and also all other heads of state would then have to be invited. The royal family don't do politics, so unlikely to be a political snub

He has a tendency to give very thoughtful gifts to royalty.

They are probably afraid to get more.

Sounds like William is following a bit in his mother's footsteps, who spent a great deal of time working with her charities, and was considered "the people's princess." From what I can tell, I think Prince Will has a good head on his shoulders in balancing out royal edict with a little common sense. At least I hope so.

Who cares. It's just a big publicity stunt anyways. Maybe if he's lucky he can can get one of those stupid royal ring replicas only $19.99. And own a piece of royal history without going to the wedding at all.

And, if he acts now, he can get a replica of the queens royal crown and one of those stupid fuzzy hats worn by the royal guard. Maybe some royal underwear too.

You watch, they are going to have the wedding, photograph every detail and sell the photobook for $40.00. But, if you act now you get two photobooks for the price of one. And a nifty magazine rack to hold in....small print...small print. Sorry no CODS!

I think it is due to the UK cutbacks they could not afford a stamp for the invitation smile

Why should he get an invite. It's not like he is a mate of Will's.   p

I fail to see what obama has to do with that wedding, have they met?
Would you invite people that you don't know to your wedding?
And doesn't the president of the united states have better things to do
With his time, other than going to the weddings of people that he doesn't
    Know? Like playing golf?

I don't really know what the protocol is either but obama
cost millions in security and then buy the cheapest thing on the wedding
List, as proven by his gift of dvds from amazon to our prime mi
    nister.

Or maybe he just doesn't like his politics, I wouldn't want sarah palin at
    My wedding.

They have asked their guests to give gifts to charities instead of presents. I believe there are to be 300 guests. Thats not a great amount of people for a wedding of Royalty. Once family and friends are listed, .. you havent much room left even for the UK PM.....

Maybe this couple wants their wedding to be more about them than the world media. Maybe they are wanting to have a wedding that relates to their relationship, not what everyone else wants?

I think he got off lightly.  Weddings are sooooooo boring for everyone but the people at the centre of the event.  He would have had to keep a straight face, not yawn and contrive not to look constipated throughout the whole tedious event.  By the time the choir launched into Zadock the Priest, he would have been ready to chew his own arm off to go outside for a fag.

If you invite one Head of State you have to invite them all. Where do you draw the line? The Commonwealth? The European Union? If you have "only" 300 places there just isn't room for Americans. No insult or snub intended.
