   Why do people lie to themselves about their feelings?

      Lying to ones self about feelings is usually a defence mechanism.  It's there to protect us from unnecessary pain.  However, it's quite hard to hide from your own feelings as we aren't able to completely control them, as they are an automatic response.
      
      However it is possible to eventually convince ourselves otherwise, if we can maintain the lie for long enough and with serious conviction.

         Thanks billabongbob. Can you imagine just what the world would be like if we didn't go around trying to convince ourselves otherwise?  We all could be in a much better place, so would the world.  Thanks for commenting.

      hmm. this brings another question then.. Isn't it a vicious cycle?  You lie about how you feel to avoid these feelings of embarrassment and ridicule and in the end you end up being embarrassed because you didn't tell that person/people the truth how you really feel and you end up loosing in the end?  I like your answer thanks.

   Maybe it is the difference between the way that people are suppose or are told to feel, and the way they actually feel. The strongest authority wins: self or suppose.

   I am not sure how it is possible to lie to yourself about a subjective experience.  You either feel it or you do not.

      Do you think people act/behave in a way so that they don't hurt the others feelings and you are not being true to your own feelings?  I agree with you, either you feel it or you do not, but I don't think everyone really knows themselves maybe?

   I got ripped off but it is OK. Doesn't bother me.
   Don't mind. It was my fault. I am used to these things. I asked for it.

      I am sorry you got ripped off, I have too, and It was my fault, and it does bother me, but it is also making me grow as a person and for that I am grateful.

   Many times its because you don't want to hurt someone else.  Even though in the end if you don't trust your feelings you end up being unhappy and eventually you are the one who is really misleading the person you don't want to hurt.
