   Has anyone travelled recently, and if you have please tell me how much you paid forluggage?
   
   National/International etc
   
   First bag free? does that mean a second bag is considered excess?
   
   My story is I called and explained to the guy,I am booked on such n such flight , my itinarary
   includes 2 national flights and one International ,so am I paying at each airline twice ,even though I booked with one airline?
   
   "How many bags"he said, "Two"I replied.
   
   You've got too much baggage!

   Yes I really meant luggage kinda baggage hehe

      Flew International in July.  No bags were free. First bag was $20.00 but must weigh less than 50 pounds.  Second bag was $49.00.  So I took one bag with a 30 gallon garbage bag for anything over 50 pounds.  I like to shop when traveling so I always have heavier luggage coming back. LOL. One carry on and one purse were allowed per person at no charge. Next time I'm traveling light!

         Carry on should be ok.
         
         Guess I just need to make sure Ive got enough cash,or I will just leave my worldly goods with the airline ..

         Nothing - I travel carry on only. Often even if you get free luggage - which probably means you are paying more for the ticket - its only for 1 checked bag.
         
         2 bags is definitely too much

   how long was the trip?...i like to travel lightly and not drag around luggage - so...these days 2 suitcases might be too much - all the excess weight on flights.
   
   I find it really funny when i'm flying and see a couple with 6 or more bags...wow! and big ones too....looks like they are moving rather than visiting! and just trying to get around the airport to check in with too many bags looks like a real drag...
   
   I've over packed too many times and now i've got it figured out - I can do laundry...I think part of realizing how to travel lightly has come from travelling for a few weeks or more by motorcycle.

      The trip will be 27 hrs (6 of that layover time)

      One way -and yep I hear ya re traveling light.
      
      Been sorting and resorting-sighs.
      
      The only thing Im really sure about is stuffing my handbag with candy

         Don't know about NZ, but even that can be a problem in the UK, taking food or drink onto the aircraft. I think there's an exception though, if it's been bought in the airport.

            There are restrictions on liquids you can take through the security check in the UK and some other European counties. So bottled water etc. has to be bought at the shops air side if you need it. You cannot carry liquids such as shampoo etc. above a certain limit.                Yes, I remember now 2uesday, but it also depends on the airline, too. Thomas cook, no more than 100mls, Emirates, 250mls.

         I'm taking off for a quick visit to Mexico on Friday - i intend to pack really light....bathing suits, sarongs, sandals, some other light summer wear - not much more than that - i just plan on hangin' around the beach for a week....read, walk, explore a bit and eat and drink sumthin'!  ...no phone..no laptop...nothing electronic...ooops, I'll need my camera

   I know this does not apply to Eaglekiwi's trip but just in case anyone is thinking of travelling in the UK.
   
   Regarding hand luggage to go through security your handbags cameras etc. have to go into your carry on baggage; that is just the one.  Not trying to steer the thread off course just thought it might be useful to someone.
   
   The budget airlines are also very strict on carry/cabin on luggage here, they will either weigh it or make you put it in a 'cage' to check the dimensions at the boarding gate. I was once made to empty the side pockets on a bag as it made it an inch wider, even though it was not as tall as the allowed size.

   When we travel, we usually have 1 bag for me, 1 bag for my husband, and 1 bag for the kids (combined because they are little) and 1 bag for medical supplies. That works out to 1 bag per person, which flies for free on Southwest (we usually fly within the US at this stage of life). I do believe medical equipment flies free (even if it means there is an extra bag)... I need to check on that, though.

   Flew back and forth to South America on Copa 2 x 50 lbs free + carry-on
   My brother is Booked to the Philippines in Dec. Air China, or China air I'm not certain but it is the same 2 bags 50lbs free.
   
   I try never to fly on any US owned carriers the service is always better on foreign airlines. The food is better, more and free usually on Copa that includes free drinks, though I seldom drink.
   The staff is always friendlier as well, always helpful, never an attitude.
