What About Satan the Devil?

I'm trying to get a feel of what people here think about the Devil. I know a lot of people here probably don't believe in a traditional concept of Satan or Devil or Lucifer or what not. But I'm gonna tell you something. It cracks me quite a bit, too. There's a picture of Satan, black and all, with a long long tail and all, and a really big fork, and this large mighty cauldron boiling with red molten soup, and him - the Devil, grinning like a madman from ear to ear while he says, "COME INTO THE POT, YE SINNERS. I'LL COOK YOU UP NICE AND GOOD" or something really mean as hell. But right after I'm done laughing and horsing around, I can get real sober and serious like. Then here's the thought I harbour: The Devil, being a fallen angel, still retaining all his powers, is transformed, and retains the image of a celestial creature. All white and glorious. I picture him wearing white fur coat, all hooded, and only get to see his eyes. Not too much, but just enough. And he never carries a fork, more like sword-like weapon, that is part of his hand. I get a kick out of imagining the Devil in that light...or is it dark? Lol.

And he's riding a unicorn into battle against a sea monster, right fierycj?

actually, Capable. That wouldn't make much sense. First, unicorns are supposed to be good creatures and would never align themselves to the Originator of Evil. Second, why would the Devil fight a Sea Monster. He would rather command the monster to do his bidding. Now that would be a more accurate picture to paint. Your attempt at humour is truly bewildering.

Devil/demon/satan is an internal concept. It is not, an out of the body experience. Everybody has a customized devil. You just have to learn how to tame him.

Nobody really knows what Satan looks like it is simply man creating his perception of what he appears to be. Seemingly since he is a fallen angel of God I personally believe he is neither black nor white as it describes him as handsome but does not give a color. smile

That about sums it up...and as the next person who posted after marine states

...the need for humans to present things as good or evil...

To me the spirit of the devil is as real as the spirit of Archangel Michael and it shows itself in the balance of the collective conscience...at least on earth it does...

I think the devil is a personification of the innate need of human beings to categorize things as "good" and "evil". Or a very clever way to scare people into submission. tongue

In my opinion, "The Devil" is nothing more than a fairy tale; no different than the "Easter Bunny". Those who believe in a deity have to buy into the notion that those who don't follow their beliefs and "rules" will be punished, while they will be rewarded.

    It's all nonsense to me.

The greatest trick that Satan ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't/doesn't exist.

Buddy tell me something, why is it that you always start thread on something always related to controversial topic? Is it a popularity trick??? So that all sorts of things will be discussed and people will start fighting over it and it will make your thread grow??

    1. profile image0
fierycjposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Does it do anything for me to have my thread grow? I really dont know. But whats controversial about wanting to know people's views on the Devil? What's controversial about it? Nothing thats what. Everythings was going nicely till Capable came in with her boring remarks.

packerpackposted 14 years agoin reply to this

That's what you were waiting for, let someone come with some questionable reply and the let the drama start. There is nothing wrong knowing anyone's opinion but these kinds of topic is just to create controversy. Anyways as I am free to do what I want so are you. So do what you think is best, start controversial thread, let people fight and enjoy the drama!

I don't believe in the devil or Satan, but if I think of how I imagine such a character; I guess I'm programmed to think of "him" as the guy in the red leotard-and-tights with a pitchfork.  (and he has a mean face, of course   smile   )

Simply that love and hate are things which are not tangible, you can't prove one way or another that you experiance these feelings, or provide an exact definition of them, but you know that they are there, just as it is with faith, you can't see God or the Devil, but it doesn't detract from their existance.

  19. Misha profile image62

While I can feel the love, and even sometimes can feel the nature-universe-god-whatever your name is for that, I never was able to feel the devil smile

Now I'm not necessarily saying that I believe it, but I heard a theologist on Discovery say something along the lines of "The Devil is the justification for the monotheistic to have a benevolent deity.

I thought that was pretty interesting.  I never really personified the Devil, my thought of Hell has always been a vast nothingness, so it doesn't really need an overlord.

My dad always says that satan is nothing more than man unregenerate - which is quite scary, actually.
