I think there should be an adult version of Hubpages.  It should be called Chubpages.

I'm not sure if the question is serious or not but there used to be adult material on HubPages and it was removed completely.

You'll see the announcement here: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/508#post2214

HP has some restiction regarding adult content.  Squidoo allows adult content.

Well....don't we have fun here anyway?  I mean we talk about sex...and thats what adult material is after all isn't it.  You want porno there's plenty of places to find that on the net.  I admit it would spice up our hubs a bit to put naked pictures of ourselves as our avatars.......on second thought.....maybe not....except for AE and the other sexy ladies.

Personally I would like it if adult content was allowed but I can see how it could be a problem with the advertisers.

You are not thinking of leaving HubPages are you?

There's a lot of places you can go, squidoo as folks have mentioned, if you want to get into adult themes.

One of the reasons I chose to emphasize Hubpages in my work is that gambling and adult themes aren't allowed. I really don't want to deal with the type of traffic that those topics bring.

It also is difficult to combine those topics with Google adsense. I'm very happy with the new ad layout and number of ads now allowed on Hubpages. I think it could be very profitable for all Hubbers - and would not want anything to jeopardize that.

I hope HubPages doesn't reverse the decision (about two years ago) to allow 'adult' content. I don't want to log in one morning only to find this:
    http://z.hubpages.com/u/1093855_f520.jpg
Several countries block adult sites (and anything else their governments don't want people to see). Adult content risks a ban, losing a lot of readers and writers.

Wow, I didn't even think of it from that angle. I'd hate to see any writers get blocked out.

    A)  Your kids will find dirty stuff whether you want them to or not

    B) Dirty stuff on HubPages won't make it any easier than it already is; if you do the math your decimal point won't even move.

    C) Parents who are that uptight should raise their kids to accept frigid values too and then they wouldn't want to participate in human experience and could be happy in the little box you made for them.  If they aren't buying your story, it's either a lame story or you aren't selling it very well.

    D) Parents who are that worried about their kids seeing a boob or reading smut should consider monitoring their kids instead of expecting the rest of the universe to skulk off into the shadows to contemplate biology, humor, sexuality and related philosophy.

That's all true. What's also true is that HP is a business. The management have a business model which dictates policy and they seem to know what they're doing.

Yea its refreshing to have a site thats 'family user friendly'

and most of grown-ups know that sex is definately over-rated anyway...(lol)

Some of the photo galleries already offend me with close ups of parts of women's bodies...I find it disrespectful if you don't show the whole body...women are more than their parts. And I don't want to have to put up with people stealing images from adult sites rather than People. Yes, I don't have to look at them but I think they would lower the reputation of the site.

Articles about love making, etc. are allowed as long as they are not pornographic, I don't see what is wrong with that. And think of the great visitors we would attract who only want to see and publish porn... You think you get spam now...

It's not all about parents protecting kids, Shadesbreath, and I agree with you on all your points. Too many parents rely on others to raise their children.

Honestly, I looked into Squidoo and after finding out that they have adult content, I wasn't interested in publishing there. I'm glad I found HubPages. I wouldn't want to publish or promote my content if there was x-rated adult material on the site that I use. I write about children's birthday parties and stuff like that; it just doesn't mesh! lol

I have no issue with people writing adult content, it just doesn't even fit with the type of site that HubPages is. Would hubbers expect to publish articles about travel, events, cooking, etc., on adult content websites? It just doesn't have it's place.

Pornography and other content should be separated to accommodate the readers of the material.

I wouldn't be thrilled to send my mother to a link to one of my hubs and then have her look around on the site further, only to find pornography. If that ever happens, I'm out of here. I really hope it doesn't because I am having a great time, thus far! smile

Pornography has it's place on the the internet, and it simply wouldn't be beneficial to HubPages for its advertising relations or a good portion of its readers to allow it again. (I understand they used to allow adult content.)

I miss Hubpages having adult content. It was all well and good when I just wanted to put some erotic poetry here, but all that got banned when idgits started posting DP porn on this site with photos galore. And if you don't know what DP means I'm not telling you. Far be it from me to corrupt anyone.

One erotic story that I posted on Literotica has now had over 360,000 views. I sure wish that traffic would have come here instead. At least here I have Adsense and Kontera. All I get from that other site is a warm glow from my readership.

In the past, when adult content was argued about- in terms of what is adult and what should be allowed and what not, I suggested an adult and child hubpages. The Adult version offered alternate affiliate options to earn money, and the child version was just a place for kids to write. All 3 sites could have the same general look just different colors (for example, children's site had bright colors to appeal to children.)

Although, the child's site wouldn't have affiliate options, it would still be fun for kids. It just poses a problem of needing a larger staff to monitor all of these sites. And the child's site poses a whole other issue of contacting children, so it would probably not need a contact button.

    But yea...

If I were a professional writer and writing on hub pages was just piece of the pie I would think twice before I wrote on a site that allowed adult content.
    But that's just me.

That's my thinking.  My kids are grown up.  I don't care what they look at.  My thing is I'm not a big fan of running into "adult" stuff, and I don't want my writing amidst a bunch of it.  I once made the mistake of signing up for a site that also had some adult stuff on it, and then, of course, they expected everyone to rate everyone else's stuff; and from what I could tell, nobody rated anything well unless it was "adult" (and good and filthy). A readership full of 14-year-old boys isn't going to be interested in what I write about.  There's no competing with that stuff on sites that don't allow it.  I think there's something to be said for separating the G and PG13 stuff from the R and X rated stuff.  I don't think it's such a bad thing that adult stuff doesn't "infiltrate" every last site on the Internet.
