Obama has now endorsed same-sex marriage. IT'S ABOUT TIME!

Got to give it to him, he finally did the right thing! Of course it will probably lose him the elections but it took guts so he gets respect from me on this one.
Using gay marriage as a political maneuver impresses you?
Good for Obama, he came out and said what needed to be said and wasn't afraid of how many votes he will lose. Because if you think that most of the U.S. is for gay marriages than you have not spent a lot of time in the mid states or taking a road trip down the bible belt. He may have lost a few votes there but he took a brave step and came out with it. He's got my vote for sure.
If that what you call courage I call it a flip flop Biden force his hand Obama is spineless when black Pastors start protesting he going to recant
It's no worse than designing the model for "Obamacare" and then pledging to repeal it. Certainly no worse than voting against the Detroit bailout only to take credit for it.
Even if it is a flip-flop, is Obama not allowed to have his etch-a-sketch out too?
"I'm going to bet people saying President Obama's support "means nothing" never comforted a 15 yr old gay kid asking why everyone hates him."
Is it just me or has the gay marriage issue ended up coloring our presidential elections since at least 2000?
It seems to come out of the woodwork (at the general public level) in election year.
This nips that in the bud.
I think this is a smart defensive/offensive move by Obama.
He's running against the rabid right anyway and it will force anyone who thinks Romney's a moderate to look twice and face reality.
I look forward to him draw his line deeper in the sand.
Yup, it forces the GOP to be 100 percent opposed to it in the general election. If he was smart, he should pledge to make 1 million tacos before November. Since the GOP is against everything Obama is for, they would spend millions of dollars fighting the socialist taco lobby. The rest of the country could then spend out time focusing on the real issues and problems facing the nation
So true.
It would take all of five minutes for "some people" to equate tacos with illegal immigrants.
They would swear up and down they're not anti-taco.
It's not the tacos themselves that are the problem, you see. It's what (read: who) they represent.
As I said in the other thread: that sure is fantastic timing.
Perhaps. Obama signaled his support for gay marriage in the 90s when he was an Illinois Senator. The Media questioned him about it when he said he was against gay marriage.
He was simply trying to play both sides, and avoid offending too many bigots. Biden made it awkward for him to continue playing to the backwards crowd.
The important thing is he is openly backing marriage equality, which has not been done by any sitting President to date. He's made history again!
Can anyone keep a straight face and honestly say that obama has any moral compass, any integrity, any grasp of reality?
Can anyone keep a straight face when they say they believe Romney is a better alternative?
Most definately. And the rest of us with American sensibilities know it.
One thing about Americans that I have noticed.....we really hate bullies. Of any stripe.
And we good-hearted Americans have been bullied for a long long time.
Welp---you all just pushed it too far now. We know you think the whole world must revolve around your rules, your religion, your feelings, your morality (or lack thereof)....
Guess what? We have had enough. Finite.
Live and let live unless you hurt someone else. And by that I include white collar crime, as they have hurt the most people ever in the history of time....
Yes--a line is being drawn MM. Finally, a president is catching up with the people.

It’s funny how the GOP and Democrats flipped over the years. The old Democrats were pro slavery and anti civil rights. Not anymore. The anti slavery and pro rights GOP are now anti everyone unless you're a rich white guy.
Does anybody remember when Bush 1st was running for re-election and tried to make it about the Pledge of Allegience? That's when James Carvelle penned "It's the economy, stupid." Of course he'd have to come up with another line these days.
It's still the economy and I'm sure James Carville would be delighted to recycle his classic line for Obama!
I believe the line goes....
"The economy has seen job growth in 26 straight months. Unfortunately, Obama can't force private companies to hire. Neither can the GOP."
Is it courage? It's not as if the context was the sixties! I think it is a shame that gay people still have to bear such level of intolerance in 2012!

Obama has become the first sitting president to openly support gay marriage. Will this help or hurt him in the election? Does this signal a sea change in how our country views gay rights?
by Tom Cornett 13 years ago
Because.....If liberal progressives are for abortion and gay marriage, then it makes sense that mostly progressive liberals will most often enact those rights...far more than conservatives.Which means...there will be far less progressive liberals in the future. Wouldn't it make sense to give...
