Was reading on some other read when a fellow hubber said that because of Hubpages she had a identity and one could google her name to chekc that out (that was Marisa Wright) and yes, there she was !! All over the first page.

So I tried it too tongue First went with my username 'Abhishek87' and my Twitter and Hubpages profile popped up on the first page. I was all excited until I remembered that not many people would have that username and hence I was there... So then I went with my full name and Although twitter/hubpages were not there, My Ezine profile was at No. 9. Now since i am new and feel like a noob, this felt awesome smile

Anyone wanna share their Searching stories ???

For two months my search results were on page 1 (no. 2) for Hub Pages but after the release of my book, the book title got splashed all over the google pages. However, I still see hubpages results on page 2. It felt great when I saw it the first time. lol

For the name Bristolboy my hubpages profile is 6, my tagfoot profile is 7 and Blogcatalog profile is number 9.  However I am up against it as Bristolboy is a popular name on various forums etc.  I have just discovered what the first result when searching on Google for the term 'Bristolboy' is and I'm not sure whether I should even post the description here due to what I think the site is about from it's Google description!

Yes you're right Abishek, being on the first page of Google for your own name means nothing, really - after all, who's going to search for you by name?

What I was saying on that other thread, was that there is one situation where people might do just that - when they're thinking of buying a book and wonder whether the writer is any good. If I was publicising a novel, I could feel confident that anyone Googling me would get the impression I'm a well-established writer.  It can't hurt!

I agree with you there totally and being on the first page for Google actually means a lot Marisa, coz there's the fact that you are not the only person with that name and internet is realy really big, so if you are there, you ARE good smile ...

I agree. I have stated in earlier post that my name with hubpages appears at first and second position. I am nine times out of ten in the first page. Jyoti Kothari is a var vary common name in India. I am lucky, I am there.

        Thanks,

        Jyoti Kothari

For my real first and last name, with quotes surrounding it, I'm on page 15 of Google (for my Avon representative site).  For KTpdx, I'm on the 2nd page for a comment on my coping with someone who drinks hub.  For KT pdx, I'm the first two searches:  one for my hot hubs and one for my hubtivity.  For my business name, with quotes surrounding it, I am 5th for my zazzle store.  For my blog name, I am 3rd and 4th.

Make "Abhishek87" a trade mark like "Dell" and the web will be all yours.

It's fun googling your name. I found out that my name is not as unique as I thought smile That is my real name...

Mine is my real name-- and though I thought it would not be exceptionally common, there are several others.

One is a pediatric neurosurgeon(not me).
One is a talented artist and the wife of a rabbi (not me).
One is some kind of financial executive (not me).
One is a sporting goods store owner(not me).
One is a white supremacist (not me).
Though the last two may be the same person.

I'm in between a lot of these listings.
So when you are looking for a certain name of anyone-- remember, it might not be "the" person.

Another thing thats fun - Search your best hub's title and see what number it is on the Google pages.  I wrote a hub called 'Top Ten Places to Visit in Texas' and it is number 6 out of 11.9 million! LOL I thought that was funny.  See what yours is!

As Marisa has pointed out, doing a search for a persons name or username is an excellent research tool that can be used by or on (or even against) you.

But don't expect it to be a source of traffic.

    1. Marisa Wright profile image86
Marisa Wrightposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Thanks, I agree but should have said it more explicitly.  No one is going to search for your Hubs or websites using your name, so just because your name ranks high won't help your traffic one bit!

I had some early laughs when I checked out my pen name, Jerilee Wei on Google.  That'll teach me to research anything like that next time before choosing one -- as I had a heck of a time knocking off some Asian porn star out of page one, and she still pops up from time to time.

  15. cindyvine profile image67
    cindyvineposted 15 years ago

Yeah, I thought Jerilee Wei looked familiar.  Was so sure I'd seen that name displayed in all the pirate dvd stores in Nanjing!
I'm number 3 on the first page, number one being linkedin and number 2 being some musician.  But interestingly enough, my first hubpages article only shows up on page 4 and it wasn't one I thought would be there!

    Google has its honeymoon period.
I started a website, a name and it was on the first page in the first few days. It has gone down from search engine up until I developed back links and made contents in my site.
