                  I know it does, and I'm sorry that you have to experience that at this time.  It's never easy.  Focus on the positive memories that you and your father shared, and try to cling to those good moments.  The people we love will love on in our thoughts and our hearts - and that's the best place for them if they can no longer be with us physically.
                  
                  I recently experienced a loss as well, but nowhere near the magnitude of a parent.  It's difficult to accept and deal with.  Stay strong, and keep your head up.

   Oh and as you are probably just looking for an argument, everyone deserves a Christian (or religious) burial regardless of their beliefs, because it is tremendously comforting to those left behind.
   Words about eternal peace or everlasting life or whatever, are comforting, whether you belief them to be true or not.
   I do not believe an atheist will do anything after death that a Christian wouldn't, or a Muslim, Hindu or whatever religion they follow does.
   You are asking the unanswerable.
   But what on Earth difference can the belief, in life, of some greater power make?

      +1....when my husband died....my stoooopid, stoooopid ultra right christian friend...said to me 'i hope he found god before he died'...we had words...my words were harsh.....and for some reason that stoooopid friend initially thought their words were okay to speak....i think they learned something, i hope....my husband had spiritual beliefs...wrong belief system tho according to my stoooopid friend....we don't talk that much anymore.......................and even if he didn't have beliefs...the same scenario would have played out....screw the OP...they are fishing for a fight...........................they are an ugly troll....let it go Izzy....peace to you.........

         Hey Someway, I am totally with you and am so sorry you lost your husband.
         For anyone to say something as stupid as that to you, or to anyone grieving, is unforgivable.
         Religion is there as a guiding light, for help in times of darkness, that kind of thing, for folk who need a little bit of help through life.
         It is not there as a threatening entity - follow or be damned forever.
         Those who believe that way of thinking need their heads looked at.
         It is scary that there are people who think that way.

            ...there are many around unfortunately....so you have to just let it go....f them...they are too self-centred....close to being pyschotic....funny...when my mom died recently.....her buddies looked at me and my siblings like we were heathens when it came to handling her wishes for her funeral ...i made a joke about it with one of her buds...f them too!...my mom was cool...she was catholic and had her beliefs...but didn't force it on me...and we followed her wishes to deal with her death...but some of her buds thought we couldn't pull it off because we didn't beeeeeleeeeeve like them and we are heathens in their world.................ha ha ha....................................................

         I am a Christian if you want to call me that,  I try to follow the ways of Christ's and Paul's teachings. As for both your parent and husband, I truly believe that they are now with our creator (God) who I call my Father. In Romans 3 it says it does not matter if we don't believe. It changes nothing with God's love or faith for all His creation. We have all been reconciled with our divine creator. It does not matter what belief system we have, because it is written that all will be given back to our Father without losing one. Peace and good health

      I sincerely feel that the difference is in the way individual persons address the realities of life.   The belief in some sort of supernatural force delays resolution and growth out and away from the death that has happened.  Sorrow, remorse, pain, all come about primarily from the refusal to allow things to pass, to move on in life, turn one's back upon death.
      
      Not saying allow any disrepectful attitude towards the dead persons body or personality, but not to hang on to them.   That simply prevents or delays healing.

      It does help sometimes in life to respect and listen to the views of someone older, more experienced.
      
      As we get older, really older, I mean, there is less opportunity to look up to someone who IS even older.
      
      It seems that communities work better when they do perceive a "higher power," whatever they think that might be.   In this situation, an older person is never without someone they can look up to.  It keeps the ego at bay!
