Why Is Hubber Score Dropping?

   In the past four months I have had increasing views, higher CPMs, have been adding articles (and deleting some losers), good Amazon sales...and my Hubber score has dropped from 97 to 91 in the past few weeks!  I don't get it...anybody else seeing this problem or can the team explain this?  Makes no sense to me!

      Also, why do so many of the no-hub ghost users have scores in the 70s while many people who actually contribute content have scores in the 50s and 60s?  I just came across this abandoned account http://devil666.hubpages.com that has a hubberscore of 71, while the other day I noticed Gardener Den has a score of 49.  Gardener Den has been a member for 6 years and has written 58 articles.  The scoring system isn't very good it if rates a dead account more highly than a productive account.

         What is going on makes no sense to me, but I definitely think the team needs to take a look at the way the scoring is set up.  Someone who is participating and doing well should not be losing standing here!

      Every time you add a new Hub, that's going to bring your score down - because part of HubberScore is an average of all your HubScores.

         I never realized this!  I have added about three hubs recently, although they each were several days apart. I never dreamed doing so would lower my hubber sore. 
         
         I did realize that this affected my overall hub scores, though. 
         
         You would think that HP would want you to add articles and not penalize you statistically for doing so!

              Publishing a new hub doesn't necessarily lower your hubber score, mine used to go up.  It's possible that publishing a few very close together lowered the average of your hub scores.  I haven't published in a long time, so I'm not sure it still works this way, but you can always hold off on submitting while the hub score rises. (I just read the LC entry on hub and hubber score.  All hubs start with a ? until sufficient data is collected about the hub.)
            I wouldn't consider it being penalized.  It's simply a part of the algorithm.  HP wants views.  Once your new hubs start bringing in traffic, your score will most likely rise again along with your contribution to the HP community.  I wouldn't worry about it.

               Yes, I can see why this would happen with hub scores...but not your hubber score.  That will drop if you delete hubs, but should go up if you add them.  Can't figure this one out!

                  Yes, but the average of your hub scores IS one of the factors in calculating hubber scores.

                     I don't see where my overall hub scores have dropped that much, at least not enough to cause a 6 point drop over a two week period, but maybe I'm missing something?

                        Who knows? That's the mystery of the scoring system.  If you follow the link I added above, it goes over the criteria used in calculating scores.

                     One odd thing about my average Hub Score is that it has been stuck at an average of 75 for a long time.  Hubs will decrease and increase their scores randomly and without explanation, but the average stays at 75.  Hmmm?

                        I notice this, too, Rock. Regardless of my hub scores, my average hub score hovers around 78. I have learned to not be overly concerned about all the scores, for they do not reflect my passion as a writer or the quality I strive for -- they only reflect someone else's opinion.

                     Many of my hub scores have risen over the past week, while my hubber score has dropped.
                     
                     If the hubber score is supposed to motivate us to work harder, it's not succeeding--it's demotivating and frustrating as it presently works!

      Don't take author score seriously.  Almost all hubbers face similar problem.  I have observed even writers with hits of 10 M too are 'suffering' from this issue. What matters is not author score but how well you receive traffic or viewership  and earnings. Since you have a sound going here, there is nothing to worry. Keep on writing. All the best.

      You have increasing views, higher CPMs, and good Amazon sales. That's all that matters. Hubber score is absolutely irrelevant for the most part.

         I absolutely agree. But the score is actually there, and becomes very annoying if it drops in spite of all else working well. As others have said, either do away with it or hide it!

      I believe it makes no sense to anybody, TT2.  I just keep plugging away, do the best I can and as long as I am happy with my hubs, I am sailing through it all, content to know that no score will hinder my passion for writing. Blessed be the writers, for we are HubPages and contribute greatly to the success of it.

   I have seen Hubbers with zero Hubs, zero followers, following no one, and they have a Hub score of 70. I have seen Hubbers with 30 Great Hubs with 65 or less. It really encourages you.

   Because the Hubber Score is based on complete nonsense and direly needs revision to keep hard working Hubbers happy.  Someone who was totally absent from HubPages for over a year came back a couple of weeks ago to ask a question.  They had a Hubber Score that was only 10 less than mine, a Hubber who as been active on the site and posting new Hubs ever since this absent Hubber left.  You'd think absent Hubbers would lose Hubber Score over time and perhaps wind up with a score below 30 when they come back after a year of doing nothing, but not in the bizzaro world of the Hub Pages Hubber Score.  Give us all a break Hub Pages and revise your scoring system or just get rid of it!

   I abandoned my hubpages account for two years, so the day I decided to check my account, I noticed this drastic drop in hubberscore. Immediately I updated some of the old hubs, deleted those that were not performing well, and I started adding new content as well participating in the community. Then my hubberscore started improving, now looking forward to a hubberscore of 100. LOL!

   I think that is the best attitude Phyllis. The competitve nature of hub scoring can be counter productive, especially when a good article is rated lower than a border line one because it is shorter or has fewer photos or no polls etc. Write for the right reasons rather than to get a good score.

   It is the people whose scores drop steadily from 90s to 80s for little reason who are the most dissatisfied. So I still plead for dropping hubber score or hiding it. It totally stresses writers. Could someone tell us why this is so impossible please. Hiding it would suffice

      I can't help wondering what will happen to our Hub scores when or if our hubs are edited and improved by HubPages staff - now there is an interesting scenario.
      Do you think Hub Scores are set to become a distant memory or will they continue to plague us like a sore thumb?

                  I didn't write here in ages, but whenever I added a new hub, my score went down. It's an average of all your hub scores. So if you add a new one, at first it has a lower score, and pulls down your average, until people have time to discover it. Once they do, it should go back up in a few days.
                  
                  On the whole though, my score has dropped too. And every time I log on, another article of mine has been stolen. I'm thinking of just closing my account, and I used to love it here. Today I found a piece I wrote plagiarized on somebody's Google + A/C, he split it up into 12 posts, but all copied word for word from one of my hubs. So I wrote on each of his 12 stolen posts, and asked him to please take them down, as I had written and published what he was passing off for his work.
                  
                  A few hours later, I got a nasty email from Google +, telling me that MY privileges with Google could be suspended! So they don't care about us at all, after we worked hard and contributed good writing here and for Google. I can't get onto his page now, he blocked me, so I can't see if he took my work down. And going on Google HELP, they just lead you to loads of rules and TOS, but there's no way to actually explain except on a forum where nobody gets back to you. I'm so disgusted.

                     Is that the Google forums? I've found people to be really helpful on the Google forums, you might want to try posting your issue there if you haven't already...it takes a few days to get any answers...

                     Hi Jean - I am so sorry you are having trouble with plagiarism and Google. Someone on Google+ stole some hubs, and he was very difficult. I think the hub finally got reindexed where no one could find it after I submitted the form to Google. I don't even check for stolen hubs now, but I know how important it is and need to get back to it. Maybe you could get in a Google forum or do the DMCA to Google. It gets frustrating I know. Contacting the writer or webmaster seems to get nowhere any more. I wish you luck in getting it removed. Please don't leave, but I know it is your decision. You have been so good to me.

                        Thanks Audrey, for your kind support, as always. I don't want to leave, it's been a tough year for me, as you know, and the summer has hit me very hard, as my husband and I used to camp and garden a lot. I spent my first birthday in 40 years without him, we met as teenagers.
                        
                        Somebody told me how to find a better Google page to complain on, and it let me file a DMCA. If I logged out of Google +, I was able to see into the plagiarist's account, and he did already take it down, but I already had filed it. I hate to leave, writing was one of my comforts too, but every time I come on here another piece of work has been stolen. I'm not in the best frame of mind, everything I do is out of my comfort zone, and now that a hobby that gave me joy is difficult too is just too much. I had planned on writing something new today, and as you know, all this nonsense filing is so time consuming, I wasted hours on it.
                        
                        Maybe tomorrow will be better , though I do think the site could at least disable the cut and paste function to make it a little harder for these people.

    My own score is hovering about the 85 - 87 mark. I had no idea of the significance of the score.
    
    But then I have mentioned in other posts how clueless I am in the whole online writing sector. I can write what I think are reasonable articles, but the marketing side and all the jargon is beyond me. I am learning though.
