    Should I laugh or cry?

Approximately 2 years ago my Hubber score was in the high 90's and at times was 100. I have watched it drop into the dirt. I have deleted my work here from my portfolio. I may share a hub or 2 with potential clients, but as for Hubpages itself, I am done recommending this site.

I looked at my account today and see several hubs with double red arrows, but then I see my Hubber score dropped 2 more points. I publish high quality hubs, and have deleted some of the first, low quality hubs I had made, but still the score drops.

I notice that some Hubbers with grammar mistakes seem to have scores with 99 and 100, and I realize that they seem to have a friend, or kinship with Hub staff.

Just a rant, because I am making very good money freelance writing. I am also doing well off book royalties.

Just because some snotty nosed kid who just graduated from college says I cannot write to Hubpages standards, I guess I should be bothered.

    NOT!

Enough of this rant--now to go make a post at my website and blog [redacted], and work on the web content and blog posts that clients are ordering....Hmm, I wonder if they may want to buy some hubs???

I looked at your profile. I agree that a score of 55 is not fair. I noticed many of your hubs haven't been edited/updated in years. HP is very big on the editing/updating thing these days. I suspect HP pokes us with a big stick when we don't do that. smile

Oh, but I have been updating and editing hubs that have been "put to sleep."

It just seems that there is something abnormally out of place at this site. I understand what you are saying, but in the same sense, if I am getting heavy traffic to some of those hubs, why punish me for not "changing" them?

I see people with 2 or 3 hubs with scores far above 55, and I have to say, the hubs are garbage. At least many of the hubs I haven't done anything with still bring traffic. Isn't that the name of this game?

Thanks for the input my friend, but my income comes from clients who pay me well now, and not from this site where I have over 500 articles that staff doesn't like. Maybe I need to go ahead and find a better place for them.

For what it's worth, I've been routinely killing off my non-traffic performers on my other account for years. Its score is currently 93. If you were to remove those hubs that are both low score and that your experience tells you are lost causes as to ever getting traffic, that probably would indeed get your profile score back into the land of the living. big_smile

Thank you. I have been killing some, but it looks as maybe more will have to go.

It is hard to know what to do. It takes a long time for a good hub to be "discovered", but I don't write about material which changes a lot, so I can't really update the hubs. I can change pictures, or the layout, but that's about it. If the hub really never catches on, and only gets a few views, I do take it off here, and usually put in on another blog or writing site. I save everything on a flash drive, so it's easy to move them. I have also felt that certain people who write badly seem to get more attention than others who write very well.

I deleted 10 low scoring hubs and it did nothing for my score. Just letting everyone know what happened to me. My account with just 6 hubs usually scores the same as this one.

Clearly the problem is having 123 in your username. Check out the scores of these fine users wink

So explain why with 213 in my name 2+ years ago had me sitting with scores in the upper 90s?

When spammers, hubless wonders, and banned people get scores of 70, giving a good user hubber something in the 50s is actually bloody outrageous.

I suspect the algorithm that generates the hubber score isn't used to factoring in more than 500 hubs. The high number of non-performing (or lesser-performing) hubs is probably getting in the way of acknowledging all your good ones.

Hopefully HP can manually over-ride such an inaccurate score.

Why not write to the team and ask them why your hubber score is 55? It makes no sense that your score is lower than many who have never (and probably will never) make the same level of contribution as you have.

55 is really not appropriate for the quality of your hubs you have. I don't know what is going on here. A month ago I still had 90-95 hubber score but now it keeps on going down. Since April I keep on updating my hubs and still it's getting bad.

There was an update to hubberscore a few weeks ago. It targetted accounts with spammy elements, so you might be one of the victims. The update didn't consider traffic or number of hubs. Get more help here http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/129577 wink

I have went through a high amount of my hubs making sure there are very few Amazon or Ebay ads.

It just seems to me that Hubpages doesn't want me here anymore, and if that is how it is....well my website is almost 2 months old and is getting on average 150 hits per day.

I have clients paying me good money for the articles I write. P/T Commander.com has my work and loves it; this client was happy with all the content I supplied: http://royalmarbleny.com/ , as was these 2: http://themortgagespecialist.ca/  and  http://rategorilla.ca/,  but my work just doesn't meet the standards of Hubpages.

As for writing the team; I have been stating this for some time to them, and it just keeps going down, so maybe it is time to join all the others who have left.

Your writing is exceptional, so the low score is not about your writing. I do think, however, it could be due to amazon and ebay ads. HP became more strict on the policy about those ads after an influx of articles with loads of those ads on them that made traffic drop significantly for a time. I read a few of your articles, they are all well-written, but I did see amazon ads and ebay ads not directly related to content. HP requires amazon and ebay ads be very directly related to information in articles.

I'm only saying this because I'll hope you'll stay. I'd hate to see you go when the problem could be easily fixed by deleting some ads. My experience is that the ads don't make money unless they're very related to content anyway.

I have been trying to go through and fix issues such as that. Part of that is the system, because I originally had ads that did coincide with what my hubs were about, and then suddenly something "changed" and ads became totally different. I have deleted a lot of ads, and I have changed the items in many, but with over 500 hubs, and other work happening that attains me much more income than Hubpages, I just cannot spend hours here.

I appreciate your response Nate, but this has been an ongoing battle. I have watched the rate of pay drop into the sewer here. I must admit that I am highly frustrated, and I do think there is a high measure of playing favorites by some of the Hub-staff. I see people that should be sitting with scores in the 70s having scores in the 90s and others with low scores that should have high scores.

I know that Hubber scores really do not matter, but for freelancers like myself, they do. I used to install hubs I had authored in bids for jobs that were related, but I do not now because I don't want a client looking at a score of 55.

So Hubpages loses on that too, because now I am not sharing their website because of the scoring. Less visitors for Hubpages means less advertising revenue for Hubpages.

Yep, the hubber score is important if you do freelance work. They normally ask for the links to some of your works and HP serves this purpose for me, too. Having a low hubber score could kill off your chances of getting work from clients. However, you can create your own blogsite and use it instead as work portfolio.

The rules about Amazon and Ebay products are so strict it's not even worth it sometimes to use them. It's very hard for me to find products for my main niche, and I never made much Amazon money anyway. But even when your product DOES have something to do with your hub, they don't always see it that way, because they don't know your topics as well as you do.

About two weeks ago my score went down into the 80's, and hasn't been that low since I came here 4 years ago and was building up my portfolio. I usually have a score in the high nineties and it's 100 for a few weeks at times. I think that's when I was most plagiarized, but that's another topic. Their definition of whether the links or capsules have to do with your hub are very narrow. I finally took most of the Amazon capsules off.

I also used to be able to advertise my personal blog, but you can't do that either, now, it's only a name, not a link. I also use my work here to get other work, so it's upsetting when the score goes down. But people can read my articles and see I know my topics. I understand where you are coming from though. The money is terrible, and it's really only a site that should be used as a hobby or to improve your writing skills, maybe test out some new material. They stopped adding "make money" as a reason to write here quite some time ago. Best of luck.

There is no rhyme or reason to what goes on here on HP.  But "the beatings will continue until morale improves."  The writers who are happiest here are those who care the least about scores, accolades, and HP's opinion of their work in general.  Keep up the good work and there are many of us who will appreciate it.

Something is drastically wrong on the scoring, Greg. A hubber who joined 3 months ago is the next post after yours on my news feed page. He has 2 hubs, very poor English, giving wrong information in the one hub that is featured .... and the same score you have.

I would certainly write to HP team and ask for an explanation.
